[opensuse] df gives strange output for root filesystem

I noticed that my root filesystem appeared to be full: # df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sdb1 9.7G 9.6G 0 100% / But when I check with du it says there's plenty of room: # du -shx / 5.8G / and when I copied the filesystem to another place, the copy occupied 5.8G as well. [opensuse] Importing .kde data to a .kde4 system

I have installed oS v11.2 on a clean HD in a box that also contains another HD which contains v11.1/kde3. At present, the latter system is not operable, and I do not now if that is permanent. I can, I would be able to mount the /home directory to the v11.2 system, and thus retrieve its data (e.g address book and much else) for use under v11.2/kde4. I do not see a problem except for kmail and other kde applications. What I am asking is what difficulties and limitations will arise from bringing over the .kde directory and adding its contents to the .kde4 directory? How realistic is this procedure? [opensuse] BASH - better way to get total number of files matching glob??

Guys, Doing a quick backup of config files (like .bashrc) from within bashrc and I need to find a better way to find the total number of files matching a glob in a directory. Currently I'm using: total=$(ls $budir/bashrc-* | wc -l) to determine how many copies I have in my bashrc.tar.bz2 backup + the new one I just copied to the backup location so I can determine the number to delete to just save the last 3 when I tar it up again. The ls | wc combination works fine, but I don't like the fact that there is a pipe in the middle of it. If there is a cleaner way to do it, let me know. P.S. Yes, I've added an alias too many times by doing "alias xzy='whatever' >~/.bashrc" -- thus the quick backup from within bashrc :p Of course if I would just remember >> I'd be just fine.... -- David C. [opensuse] Panel behavior in kde4

I want to produce in the kde4 panel something like the behavior that I found effective and useful in kde3 panels. What was done then was to arrange on a second panel at the top of the screen icons representing the apps and utilities that I used routinely, so that loading one of them was a simple matter of reaching up with the mouse and clicking on whatever I needed. As far as I have been able to find, the panel in kde4 doesn't lend itself to containing anything but a limited set of "widgets". Clicking in an unoccupied region of a panel with MB2 (called by right0handed people "right-click") brings up the following list of items: Add Widgets, Add Panel, Lock Widgets, Panel Settings, and Remove this Panel. Nothing about non-widget objects. For that matter, nothing about moving even a widget from one location to another on the panel -- where is falls is where it has to remain. I am sure that I am missing something, because I do not believe that functionality can have been removed, thus rendering the panel a far less useful thing. [opensuse] often received code after failing suspend

It frequently happens my suspend fails. An error message I frequently receive tells "Error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error. ServiceUnknown: The name org.freedesktop.NetworkManager was not provided by any .service files" I don't understand the service org.freedesktop, and not either how my Network- Manager generates a suspend failure. Anyone able to give me a hint? [opensuse] openSUSE 10.3, ssh and X11 forwarding

I am trying to run a remote X application on a 10.3 system. There is a problem connecting to the display from the system I ssh into. I do this all the time, and usually there is no problem. But I have a system that is not working and I do not know why. Perhaps I have forgotten a step in 10.3. I have edited /etc/ssh/ssh_config on the system I ssh from, setting: Host * ForwardAgent yes ForwardX11 yes ForwardX11Trusted yes There is nothing in ~/.ssh/ that overrides this. When I connect to another system with ssh, I would expect the DISPLAY variable to be something like localhost:11.0 But that is not the case. In addition, I would expect to see a port listener on the system I connect from, in this case on port 6011. There is no such thing. I also tried the older method of setting DISPLAY on the remote system to refer to the system I want the app to display on. This does not work either. I ran xhost + on that system. Once again, I would expect to see a port listener on port 6000 that can be connected to from other than localhost. I do not see this. Could there be something on the system I am ssh-ing to that keeps the DISPLAY variable from being set? I am in a real bind as I did not expect this problem and need to run the app urgently! [opensuse] Run Hamster time tracker applet in KDE

Does anyone know how to run Hamster time tracker applet in KDE. [opensuse] sudoers ignored in 11.2

it seems that since 11.0 sudoers is ignored. I copied the sudoers file from 10.3 to the 11.x systems and even edited new ones in yast>sudo but it is still ignored without errors. Format is identical to examples shown in how-to's, online and in books. There seems to be no other config file that controls how sudoers is used.
