[opensuse] Is this possible ? slightly OT

Hello SuSE people, My son-in-law gave my wife a Mac OSX 17" laptop. (He is in a graphics busines, uses Mac exclusively and recycles his laptops on a regular basis) ( I know absolutely 0 about Apple) She knows nothing about Mac either but would like to use it as her "personal" computer. I finally got it set upfor her with wireless, internet access, mail with Thunderbird, etc. but she still only knows the SuSE way. Sooo....the question is can I install a SuSE onto that machine? or better yet network the laptop to my/her desktop 11.0 via something like ssh? [opensuse] "Can't hardlink/copy" means what?

The todays zypper dup tells me following with which I cannot begin anything. I did a retry and the rpm was installed. The question remains, what was zypper telling me and why? [opensuse] going away from computer

I will be going away from my computer in a few weeks, to the hospital, and will be there for up to two weeks. Is there a way to suspend mail from SuSE, or must I unsubscribe at that point? [opensuse] Missing libraries

I am attempting to install "Ekiga" soft phone which, as its developers say, "shipped with openSuSE v11.1"; oS v11.1 is what I am running. Ekiga does appear in the YaST list. When I accept installation, YaST presents a list of dependencies to be downloaded too, and asks for the DVD. That's as far as it gets, because the packages required to satisfy the dependencies are not present on the DVD, nor apparently anywhere else, so the following error message appears. ***** Error: IO:Failed to provide Package libsigc++2-2.2.2-40.37. Do you want to retry retrieval? [opensuse] An annoying behaviour by latest version of Firefox in openSUSE

I, and my wife, are running the very latest Firefox (as provided by openSUSE repos) on 32-bit computers. Both of us also have the same versions of KDE (now 4.4, previously 4.3.5 for me and 4.3.1 on her computer [don't ask!]) on our computers as well as openSUSE 11.2. (I make her system 'identical' [as much as possible - if you are married you'd know exactly what I mean :-) ] - to mine to make it easier for me to maintain her system.) Since Firefox 3.6 was installed (via zypper from the oS repo.) either one or both of the following occurs: (1) after closing Firefox, just prior to shutting down the computer, on restarting the computer [say, the next day] Firefox will automatically start in the first Desktop (we both have 6 Desktops set); or (2) this is the *most* annoying PITA: during a session, if you close down Firefox but then decide to restart it for whatever reason, openSUSE/KDE/whatever gives you the error message, "Firefox is already running. ..." and won't let you start Firefox until you "close" the already "running" Firefox. As I stated, this one is really a PITA because the normal recourse for my wife is to logout and restart her session or to reboot the computer (fiddling with command lines is not her forte). If one uses "ps aux" as root, one can see that firefox *IS *still running - and sometimes one can also see that the red "!lock" in the /.mozilla/.... directory is still in place - even though FF has been shutdown. (Deleting the "!lock" does not help; "kill"-ing the PID for FF is the only way out (or restarting your logon)). At this point I have to state that this occurs 95%+ of the time. As we both love playing FREECELL I initially thought that there was a connection between the two because when FC was not played the problem with FF did not occur. But, NO, my theorum proved totally false- FF does its "nonsense" even if FC hasn't been played for a day or so. And so..... Does anyone else experience this re Firefox, or has heard about it, and/or knows how to fix this PITA? BC -- "If it weren't for electricity we'd be all watching televion by candlelight." Listmates, One issue with kde44 was compiz on 11.0 would not work with the new kde. It worked fine with 3.98, but was dead in 4.4. With the new release 224, Compiz works again :p -- David C. [opensuse] kate/kwrite crashing on save every time, are there any debugsource/debuginfo packages for Factory?

KDE4 Devs, List: kate/kwrite are now crashing on every 'save'. Thankfully the file is written before the crash, but I need to fix this. When the crash occurs, drkonqi is activated, but output is worthless without the debug packages. Are these available for the Factory kde44 packages? [opensuse] printer recommendations

Hi I have around 250 photos I'd like to print in colour on photo quality paper to around A4 size. The photos were take with a Nikon D40 at 3000x2000 resolution. After this the printer will be used simply to print openoffice text documents on standard A4 folios. What printer would you recommend to do this? Can I do it wiithin a budget of 200 euros if I already have the paper? On another thread I learned that my HP F2280 was not up to the task. OS 11.2 under KDE 4.3.5. Thanks.
