[opensuse] HP Laserjet 1005 and 1020 problems

Hi, I have two HP Laserjet printer used in my job, 1020 and 1005, that I install using foo2zjs drivers. It are working ok until openSUSE 11.2, before the last kernel update. After the update both printer stop to work. Of course, I recompile and reinstall the driver. Last friday I dowgraded the kernel and 1020 is working again. I do the same tomorrow with 1005. My question is there is some incompatibility between new kernel and foo2zjs driver? [opensuse] Best way to upgrade server from 10.2 to 11.2?

Hi! I have an old server running 10.2. I'd like to upgrade that to 11.2 to be able to use some of the server software available only for the newer versions. The worry that I have is that there is a 4 x 500Mb RAID-5 which I obviously would not want to loose in any case. It has 2 additional smaller hard drives. One of those is the system drive and another pretty much not used. Otherwise, it only has CD-ROM, not DVD. Should I try to upgrade the server or do a clean install? If clean install, can I install the new version to the other smaller drive so that I can select in the boot also the older version? And thus be sure that I can access the files on the RAID. Will the new version be able to find and use the RAID if I do clean installation to the other drive? Finally, how do I install this with CD+network as the guide here: http://en.opensuse.org/Installing_from_Internet is pretty... well confusing. :-) Do I just download the .iso by selecting the "network" on this page: http://software.opensuse.org/112/en and go on from there with feeling? Hello: I am not sure that the subject explains it clearly what I mean, so I give a detailed explanation: Several web pages has a printer-friendly version for printing. Sometimes this printer friendly page opens in a new browser tab/window before printing. In other cases clicking the link to the printer friendly version directly invokes print menu without giving the possibility to be able to check what will be printed exactly. Furthermore I like to save the printer friendly versions as html/web files. Do you know any addon that makes firefox open this type of printer friendly pages in a new tab instead of invoking print menu? It really would be a great help if such an addon existed. Or is there any other way to save the printer friendly version as html file in such cases? [opensuse] OT? Kiosk type setup

I am looking for a Linux solution for this. It will be a standalone machine connected to a large display and I am looking for it to do an automated presentation, with some also automated update via a usb mem stick as the machine will nmot have kb, mouse, net. Yes I am busy googleing and reading about the ones I find but thought I would ask in case someone found one they are using. I would prefer Suse but am open to any Linux solution. [opensuse] KDE 4.4 login manager - impossible to configure?

Hi, I got tired restoring KDM settings after every update of KDE4.3 (bug #566252) and decided to check how it is in KDE 4.4. After upgrading (from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Desktop/openS…, this morning) background setting was lost again, but now the "Login Manager" configuration (Personal Settings -> System -> Login manager) just have everything grayed out. It reminds KDE 3.5, with one exception: KDE3.5 had "Administrator mode" button that after entering the root password enables KDM configuration. No such button in KDE 4.4. Looked briefly through both Novel and KDE bugzillas and have not seen reports on it. Anybody saw this issue? [opensuse] Need to Shrink /home and grow / -- Any Gotchas before I do it??

Listmates, I am running out of space on /. During my last software update, yast gave me the error "Running out of Space" Continue? Yes/No. So as a temporary fix, I moved /var/cache/zypp/packages to /home/packages and softlinked it. This is a good temporary fix, but what I need to do is shrink /home and grow / by 10G. I have 374G of free space on /home, so space isn't a problem. My plan is just to boot from the gparted iso and shrink /home by 10 and then grow / by 10. I have a couple of questions. First, how dicey is it to shrink home? Second, is there a better tool to use besides gparted? My real concern is corrupting /home during the shrink. I have the 'fdisk -l' information in case the shrink goes bad, but is there any additional precautionary steps I should take? (I have backups) -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.
