[opensuse] Amazing Opera Tip -- Use QT/GTK file Open/Save dialogs

List, I have always liked the opera browser, but one thing that has really sucked about it was the crappy file open/file save dialogs opera comes with. Picking around tonight, I ran across an option in opera's configuration that allows you to choose the file selector dialogs to use. It is cryptic as hell, but I found the commit page for the changes and got the needed information. To make use of real kde4 open/save dialogs in opera, got to the config page by typing "opera:config" into the address bar, the scroll down to "File Selector", then change the setting to "2". The commit notes say: 0 - normal 1 - Qt 2 - GTK For some reason, I couldn't get Qt to work, so I select "2" for GTK, and Bingo! I had usable dialogs in opera (you may need to restart opera). I don't value style OVER substance, but substance without style won't sell to the masses. Why are there so many *styles* of cars? Of clothing? To appeal to people. *function* is *assumed*, it's the basic thing that should fit into the background. But style is what sells the products -- usability, style, plug-n-play, ease-of-use -- not whether it can computer the n'th digit of pi better or faster than another machine. Look at the market -- people are downgrading function for style and ease of carrying, portability -- notebooks are replacing lap tops because they still have the functions, but the styling of the product (size, weight, etc) are winning the day. Ignore style and you deny yourself the ability to sell your ideas -- it doesn't make your ideas any less intelligent or more intelligent, but it affects the the masses who we, as tech people, need to support us in developing cool tech. Every time someone slaps someone else's hand for showing a different 'style (writing by posting on top as example), they putting people off. All I'm saying is that stylistics rules should be relatively relaxed in a casual discussion or help forum to allow people to communicate in whatever way they best can (with restrictions as I previously mentioned). The problem with so many tech people, is its all black or white. A or B. They work too long with computers. People aren't binary and neither should be rules. I value style without substance is worthless, but equally, substance without style is ugly or unwanted. [opensuse] Pmtools seems not to function

Looking into a bios update I wanted to have a look at my actual bios state. I gave the command dmidecode -s bios-version && dmidecode t11 on my Thinkpad. My system is opensuse 11.1 mainly KDE 4.3.1. Response was, command not found. Went into Google and found out that this function is called pmtools in openSUSE. In Yast found that I had this tool installed. pmtools in Konsole did give the same info: command not found. Uninstalled pmtools and installed it again without improvement. In the mean time I got my info from Puppy life which had no problems with dmidecode. I am just unhappy that I had to use some other Linux in order to find out details I should also have gotten with opensuse. Is something missing, did I make somewhere along the line a mistake? Somebody with an insight what has gone wrong? [opensuse] How to get samba working?

Hi, I'm trying to get a really simple samba server set up here, so that my two Windows laptops can view photographs on my openSUSE 11.1 with KDE 4.3 desktop. All the machines are members of the same workgroup. The windows machines can see each other, and I can see the windows machines from KDE3 konqueror (although I'm using the KDE4 desktop) with the smb:// protocol. Although the samba HOWTO.pdf is great for going through the configuration, I think I have a more basic problem with the samba executables. [opensuse] scanner that works well with linux - any recommendations?

I bought an HP Scanjet 2400 a while ago, obviously neglecting to check if it worked with Linux - which it doesn't (AFAICT). I would really like to get a new one, but one that works with Linux. The scanjet has two buttons on the front - copy & scan. Those would be really handy to have working too. Any (affordable) recommendations? [opensuse] A question from Atlanta Linux Fest that I got

Guys, I am helping a gentleman that I meet that the Atlanta Linux Fest with issue that is making openSUSE non-productive for him. He is getting this error using KDE 3 with openSUSE 11.1, he is checking to make sure it's 11.1, but the error is Kwin crash with signal 11(SigSEV) He has a script that launch the same application that he an 8 other users on a server. When he logs into the machines to find a couple of instances of that application locked up with the KWin crashed message. He has Googled the error message and found plenty of results, but hasn't been able to find any fixes. Does anyone one know what he can do to fix this? Please understand, I am helping this person, this is a chance for the mailing to shine and show people that don't use the list it a great place to go and get help. Thanks in advice, my searches I am seeing that there is a bug with KWin and KDE 3.5, but I too have't see any fixes. Why can I not login with 'iVia' to my postgresql? Is it because I use 'md5()' but not blowfish as I remember OpenSuSE11.1 use 'blowfish()' as its default password encryption. But AFAIK, there's nothing to do with the RDBMS Encryption (PostgreSQL in my case) and the Host OS password encryption method. Please keep telling me. I am confused. Thank you very much in advance.
