[opensuse] MinGw cross compiler for 32-bit MS Windows

I have been using the MinGW cross compiler for 32-bit MS Windows on openSUSE for a while. I have no trouble making apps (console mode dll and exe) that run on Windows. Part of the setup should allow others to write applications on Windows and link with the DLLs I create with MinGW on Linux. Here is where I run into problems. Initially, people were trying to use MSCV++ to make apps that link with the Linux- compiled MinGW DLLs. The linking worked, but the apps did not run. So, I suggested that they try MinGW on Windows. Oddly, no help. So, I thought I needed to look into this. I installed the current stable MinGW from mingw.org. When I try to link with my Linux cross- compiled DLLS, I get an error that atexit() is redefined. Not in my code. When compiling/linking the same code all with the Linux cross- compiler, there is no trouble at all. It is when I use a DLL from the Linux cross compiler as a component when linking a program compiled on Windows that it fails. After a bit of googling, I think I need to make sure that the runtime libs (used when linking the app) in MinGW are the same version on Linux and Windows. Here is my current problem (I think): The RPMs for openSUSE contain versions that are so old that they are no longer available on mingw.org. They do have old versions. But not as old as the ones included in openSUSE. Is there any reason that the openSUSE versions of the various components are not somewhere in the list of versions that mingw.org supply for Windows? [opensuse] CAnt burn iso dvd's

I'm using Opensuse 11.0 w/ KDE3 on a Dell Inspiron 1545.........I've tried to burn a bootable iso dvd using k3b and Tkdvd without success. The iso is burned but will not boot. I tried several different dvd iso's but none will boot. I can burn data dvds and have successfully burned bootable iso and data cd's using the same writer and K3b. Has anyone else had a similar problem or know of a cure? I checked the k3b lists and others with no luck so far. I know I'm not using an e-mail program - but your assertion was that people not using kmail don't have the option. I was merely pointing out that you were not correct in that assertion. :-) Also, I think probably more people use IMAP than POP these days, but I could be wrong. I'm running Suse 11 on an MSI K9N NEO Version 3. According to the motherboard manual, the lan nic is a Realtek RTL8111B which, according to its datasheet, supports Jumbo frames to 7422. I have not succeeded in setting the mtu to 7422 using either ifconfig or the ip command. It's hard to believe that Suse 11 doesn't support Jumbo frames. How are Jumbo Frames enabled in Suse? Hi, I would like to replace the OpenSUSE package "Modules" with a newer package called "environment-modules" (Fedora/RHEL rpm name). In the environment-modules.spec file I have Provides: Modules = %{version} Obsoletes: Modules < %{version} This leads to # rpm -q --provides environment-modules Modules = 3.2.6 environment-modules = 3.2.6-23.1 # rpm -q --obsoletes environment-modules Modules < 3.2.6 The openSUSE RPM Modules has the version 3.1.6 (Modules-3.1.6-38.112). Epoch is for both packages equal "none". I can install my environment-modules RPM with rpm -Uhv. However, if I run "zypper update" on openSUSE 11.1, zypper wants to replace my *newer* environment-modules RPM. # zypper udpate Loading repository data... Reading installed packages... [opensuse] Possible Linux / Windows opportunity

This is my initial take on the situation, so please advice in detail (privately if you want) I realize I still have a lot of questions to answer .......... Ultimately, I would like enough information to develop a proposal. Plus any references (show cases, etc) for auto garage setups. Observations: - Constant bouncing between consoles (assuming customer appointment scheduling, POS, general web (looking up parts, etc) - Based on initial talking to tech, could use multiple desktops. - Constantly worrying about keeping anti-virus, anti-spyware, etc, updated. - Not sure what they do about backups. (assuming standard Win setup - drive C: only) (this is where /home would benefit) Setup: - Local auto garage has two buildings - main office and garage with customer counter. - Running Win XP (Pro?) via LAN DSL. - Apps are about half / half - windows and web (Firefox) - Some sort of POS with credit card processing and laser printing - Some sort of Accounting (probably inventory, receivable, payable) - Uses "All Data" auto information system (alldata.com) - As well as general web access. Initial conversion thoughts: - openSUSE Linux - VirtualBox - - - Win XP (Pro?) [opensuse] lost Internet

Linux computer, Suse version 9.3. The other nite, disconnected power wires from computer and monitor, but did not disconnect Ethernet cable, due to thunderstorms in the area.(Old UPS had died.) Hooked power back up and turned on computer, which appeared to boot normally. Went to check mail (KMail), response was could not find server. Went to Konsole, and tried to ping a local company. This ping works on Windows machine. Swapped cables on router, fault is still on Linux machine, ping works fine in Windows still. Tried from Linux machine to ping router. (Ping 192.168.1.1) and this works fine in both directions. (Router is wired Linksys Etherfast Cable/DSL Router with 4 port switch.) What's my next test, and how do I make this stuff work? At the present moment, I cannot read/write any CD or DVD-- I think I have the settings on the drives wrong. I can read a Kingston flash-drive, formatted in DOS-32 or whatever they call it. (It came that way.) I should be able to d/l whatever I need from Windows. If it matters, the computer is about 3 years old, comes from Fry's. I bought it with some junk Linux system, and put Suse on it. Guys, I like to ask a couple questions, that I like to get some advice on. 1) Where I work we are using Tomcat. I like some recommend an appication that I can isntall and learn how Tomcat works. Something simple but useful. 2) diff for X. what is causing this? [opensuse] Screensavers collection and prio

Hello folks, OpenSuse has a very nice collection of screensavers. But its also a very large collection. How and where can I reduce this collection so I keep only the nicest? I run them randomly and I want to reduce this set. A second question is, how can I reduce the process-priority of the screensaver process? This to minimize the influence on other processes. Hello, I'm still looking for the cause of v11.1 KDE start-up anomaly on Shuttle X27, posted previously (see below) but not responded. I've saved /var/log/boot.msg after an anomalous boot to look for a clue, but I can't find it in this 50 kB file. Any idea which keywords to search? Please help. I wrote 3 days ago: openSuSE 11.1 with KDE often (about 50% chance) requires to login twice and displays colorful horizontal stripes during the boot procedure. In a worst case, SuSE boot hangs and forces me to unplug the power cable - the X27 has no reset button. Ubuntu 8.10 on another HD partition on my Shuttle X27 shows no boot problems. What can I do? Hi, I'm busy writing a script that does 'something' with every file found. It does something like: for a in $( find /mnt/Data/Todo -type f -exec basename {} \; ); do /usr/bin/stcommand $a /usr/bin/2ndcommand $a done The problem here is simply: it works only as long as the filename does not contain any whitechars :( Is there a good way to get around this? I have a problem installing Zimbra Mail Server & Collaboration Suite into openSUSE 11.0 or 11.1. I could only get it installed with openSUSE 10.3. The main problem is about incompatibility between Perl on Zimbra binary and Perl on openSUSE 11.x. Zimbra using Perl 5.88 while openSUSE 11.x using Perl 5.10. Below is the complain message from Zimbra : /usr/bin/perl: symbol lookup error: /opt/zimbra/zimbramon/lib/i486-linux-gnu-thread-multi/auto/IO/IO.so: undefined symbol: Perl_Tstack_sp_ptr The problem is not specific for openSUSE 11.x. Hi, have HP DC7800 PC with BlueRay and two 1,5TB disks. Until recent update system was ok running suse 11.1. After update can not boot, get crc error. Reinstalled system and did update - same error. [opensuse] MX record in DNS problem - Suse 11.0

Hello, Setting up a new DNS server on Suse 11.0 (currently using Suse 9.3), however when testing the server from the outside I get an error saying that the MX records can't be found. The records under ./master look identical the records on the running 9.3 server. I can't find what the problem is. Using Check DNS shows; Answer from N/A: host mail.ourdomain.com not found. Some of your MX do not work properly Any ideas on how to fix this? [opensuse] pptp VPN with EAP

Hi all, I've been struggling trying to establish a VPN tunnel on openSUSE. The VPN is based on PPTP, and needs EAP to authenticate via a provided certificate. I tried connecting to it using kvnpc but, I cannot enter the certificates path in order to authenticate. When instruct kvpnc on the certificates location, kvpnc will not use them and, when I come back to the X.509 screen all the path's I entered are gone. Am I doing anything wrong ? Or is it a kvnpc bug ? I've tried some goggling but, found nothing on the subject. I also tried YaST, but it appears it has no support for Certificates/EAP. Besides these two, is there any other solution I can work with ? I can also try manual pppd/pptp but I lack the information/experience to set up eap with certificates. Can anyone share some info on the matter ? [opensuse] Fedora 9 and Suse 11.0 ssh do not work together

I am running 32-bit fedora 9 and 64-bit Suse 11.0 and 64-bit OpenBSD 4.4 on a local net. Ssh does not work between F9 and Suse 11.0. Ssh from f9 to Suse times out. An ssh connection from Suse to F9 is refused by F9. Ssh from F9 to OpenBSD works. Ssh from OpenBSD to Suse times out at login. SSh from OpenBSD to F9 is denied (publickey,gssapi-with-mic). I was surprised that these 3 system do not talk to each other with their default config files. Is there a common set of config files with which all ssh connections work? I am running openSuSE v10.3, and want to install v11.1 on a separate drive. I will want to carry over, among other things, the mail folders, the settings, and the filters from KMail to the new OS, but I do not find a way to export these things from the present mailer, nor for that matter, to import them. What am I overlooking? I should mention that I am considering using KDE4 with the new v11.1 (not without some trepidation, after reading some of the recent traffic on this forum). Hi all, I really don't get why the dummy interface doesn't show up at boot. The module is loaded automatically with the following: # cat /etc/modprobe.conf | grep dummyinstall dummy0 /sbin/modprobe -o dummy0 --ignore-install dummy install dummy1 /sbin/modprobe -o dummy1 --ignore-install dummy remove dummy0 /sbin/modprobe -r -o dummy0 --ignore-remove dummy remove dummy1 /sbin/modprobe -r -o dummy1 --ignore-remove dummy alias dummy0 dummy options dummy numdummies=1 And I also added '/sbin/modprobe dummy0' into /etc/init.d/boot Restarting the network daemon eventually show the dummy0 interface. For some reason that I have not yet figured out, ssh does not connect in either direction between Fedora 9 and Suse 11. I also cannot ssh from OpenBSD to Suse 11, I AM now able to ssh FROM Suse 11 to OpenBSD. I have tried to make the /etc/ssh/sshd_config files identical on all 3 systems, but that has not solved my problem. All 3 systems are on my local net. What do I need to do to get Suse 11 to accept ssh connections from Fedora 9 and OpenBSD? Listmates, On 11.0, the latest firefox update makes the "favorites" in your save dialog disappear. The versio I'm running is: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.0.8) Gecko/2009032600 SUSE/3.0.8-1.1 Firefox/3.0.8 What happens when you go to a file from the web is that the "favorites" are not visible on the left side of the dialog. Can't say I will ever comprehend the way java is deployed under SuSE, so please excuse my ignorance... I need to locate the jnlp-servlet.jar file for a project I am working on. According to Sun it is suppose to be part of the Java SDK under samples/jnlp/servlet. I have download from Yast just about everything I can think of that might (should IMHO) provide this jar file - java-1_5_0-sun-devel, java-1_6_0-sun-devel, java-1_6_0-openjdk-devel, the associated JRE's and a few other packages but no joy in finding this baby! Anyone got an idea where the packagers hide this? Or should I just bail and go download the whole SDK from Sun, go to bed and chew up a whole lot more disk space? I would hate to do an install directly from Sun, the last time I did that it really screwed things up for me... SuSE and Sun just don't agree on the way Java is to be deployed on a system... me thinks. Thanks... [opensuse] Strange behavior after udev update on 11.0 -> CD-Rom Stuck??

Listmates, After the latest udev update this weekend, my cd-rom suddenly because stuck today on my Toshiba 205D laptop. It wasn't mounted and was in fact empty, but nonetheless could not be opened by pushing the button on the drive door. It was so stuck I had to resort to the 'eject -r /dev/sr0' command as root to get the door to open. This is the first time in years this has ever happened. I had just finished ripping a few tracks with grip and was going to burn the wav files for safe keeping. Went to open the door and -- it was really stuck. Anyone else seeing this?? I have 3 systems I'm playing with now and trying to bring up a new one (its a replacement for one of the others that's starting to fail w/hw problems). Am having an "ssh" key-interchange/authorization issue. Orignal sys's A, B, work fine (A is at 10.3, B(a)11.0) New sys C, I'm installing with 11.1. user1@a <--> user1@a root@a <--> root@b But sys C is having probs w/roots trusting each other. user trust is working (mutual exchange of keys) but mutual exchange isn't working for 'root' each user (and root) at each system as their own private RSA key, so there would be 3 user keys shared among the paired systems and am sharing 3 root keys shared among the paired systems user1@c <--> user1@<a|b> works root@c <--> root@<a|b> doesn't work I.e, root on C can't login, pw-less to A or B and neither A nor B can login to C password-less. But works for user. File and root ".ssh" dir & files permissions are same. The config files in /etc/ssh "ssh_config" and "sshd_config" appear identical. I've followed the ssh from C(new) -> an old, to see where it 'fails'. Both get to methods to proceed (pubkey or keyboard), then both pass with an id_rsa key, Then the working case logs in and create a channel, but the debug(2) on 'C', instead of continuing to create a channel says "we did not send a packet, disable method, disable method and then goes on to require kbdint to continue. So what is 'C' not sending for connect or receive? Is it not allocating a terminal maybe? Am confused. Hi all, I am setting up a SuSEfirewall2. I need external access to the internal/dmz for on specific machine and port. I read all I could find about using FW_FORWARD_MASQ="0/0,192.168.0.10,tcp,80 0/0,192.168.0.10,icmp,80" (also needing FW_ROUTE="yes" and FW_MASQUESRADE="yes"). I can ping the firewall IP on both NIC's (e.g. 192.168.0.1 internal NIC and 192.168.176.1 external NIC) from external IP 192.168.176.10 I cannot ping the internal machines (e.g. 192.168.0.10) from 192.168.176.10 I have the same problem on another FW for internet access on a web server with private IP in the dmz. I have Open office 3.01, I am using NFS with autofs. Whenever I have a new document or save as, the file dialog come up properly, but the file is never save. It keeps reopening the file dialog. I know the program can write to the nfs because, if you open an existing file, change it and save the data. Listmates: Just a general FYI for seagate Barracuda drives 500G-1000G. Check your firmware version to see if your firmware version is: AD14, SD15, SD16, SD17, SD18, SD19, or SD81 by executing the following as root from the command line: # smartctl --info /dev/sd(a b c d...) Where a b c or d is your drive letter. If you are not sure what you have, just check with: # cat /proc/partitions The drives you have will be listed. You can ignore the additional partitions for each drive (sda1, sda2 ...) you are just interested in the sda information. You can then download an iso firmware update from Seagate for your device model as listed with 'smartctl --info': http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=207951&H… The current firmware version is SD1A and it can make a *100%* improvement in your "Timing buffered disk reads" as reported by hdparm -tT /dev/sd[a b c d]: Before update: /dev/sdd1: Timing cached reads: 3506 MB in 2.00 seconds = 1753.19 MB/sec Timing buffered disk reads: 152 MB in 3.01 seconds = 50.53 MB/sec ^^^^^^^^^^^^ After update: /dev/sdd: Timing cached reads: 3596 MB in 2.00 seconds = 1798.65 MB/sec Timing buffered disk reads: 326 MB in 3.00 seconds = 108.54 MB/sec ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Well worth the update if you have the disk in a RAID array and much easier and quicker that RMAing the drive. NOTE: The firmware update will not work with ALL motherboard chipsets. The drive was originally in my box with an MSI K9N2 SLI Platinum motherboard and the firmware update could not recognize the seagate drives (there were 4 in the box). Hi, I wanted to install Gimp 2.6 on my 10.3. But it wants libgio-2.0 and later Glib 2.16 I cannot find these packages. The links on packages.opensuse-sommunity.org lead to nowhere. I have installed this some month ago on my laptop, but now the repositories seem to be gone??? When I look in Yast of my laptop I see the installed packages but not, from where they are, and also there is no "available version", just the installed one. Where can I find all the pakages I need for gimp 2.6 on Opensuse 10.3? thanks for your hints. Hi Folks, I'm on travel visiting my brother and noticed that his Vista Pea Sea was flashing its disk light continuously. He also observed that it seemed to be sluggish of late. So he started a full McAfee scan yesterday that never finished, it turned itself off. In aggregate, both he and I are smelling a virus/trojan/root-kit/etc of some sort. So I offered the concept of booting off of a Live Linux cd to get an independent clamav scan of his NTFS Windows partition. I've used Knoppix in the past, but after a download/burn it didn't have clamav or even gcc. So I tried an openSuSE 11.1 Live CD download. Using yast2 I was able to load clamav without issue. Then, I tried to mount the main NTFS partition and failed miserably! I did a mount -r /dev/sda3 /mnt and all I got was a hang so hard that a power cycle was needed. Was I doing something wrong? Or does openSuSE have issues with Vista's version of NTFS? Hello, I'm using OpenSuSE 11.1 on my Thinkpad X200. I use KDE 3, although some patrs of KDE 4 are obviously installed too as I get both configuration utilities ("Personal Settings" and "Contol Centre" ) so I don't know who controls what. However, the system was set up to login automaticaly the default (and only) user. Recently, while trying to get the right image on the VGA out on a beamer, my user session crashed so badly that KDE would no more start. After trying many other things I ended archiving, deleting and recreating my user. So far so good. Now to the weird (at least to me): when I rebooted after having deleted the corrupted user (to make sure all files were destroyed), KDE sensibly told me I had an automatic login for a non-existent user, so do I want to remove it? I made the mistake to say yes. From there on, the system does no more aknowledge automatic login. I can set it up (I created a second user for testing) on any user, I always end up at the login screen. I tried to login with KDE 4 and KDE 3, set up automatic login in both (they _are_ set), but nothing works... Is not absolutely a big problem, but it puzzles me. Where the heck is that setting hidden? And which KDe version controls my login? There is a kdmrc file in /opt/kde3/share/config/kdm - it says AutoLoginUser=<myuser>, but none in /etc/kde4/kdm, but the settings used seem to be kde4's..... openSuSE 11.1 with KDE often (about 50% chance) requires to login twice and displays colorful horizontal stripes during the boot procedure. In a worst case, SuSE boot hangs and forces me to unplug the power cable - the X27 has no reset button. Ubuntu 8.10 on another HD partition on my Shuttle X27 shows no boot problems. What can I do? All other audio programmes work. That's encouraging... It seems that ATI commitment to its Linux driver program is superficial at best. That's is the real bottom line here. It's a "take what you get" mentality. All of it's great lip service about wanting "Linux Driver Feedback" and "being interest" in resolving driver issues, is not worth the silicon its written on. You have worked far more of these issues than I have, and we have worked issues together through bugzilla at lease since late 2007, but I have never in my life seen the absolute ignoring of Linux user driver problems than I have in the past 6-8 months. As mentioned, I have filed ATI feedback cases on every single release since 8-10, provided all logs, confs, hardware specks, and it is very apparent that ATI hasn't lifted a finger to even try and identify the issue. I'm running opensuse 11.1, with Gnome gui, on a Toshiba Satellite 2410 laptop with a built-in SD reader. I'm not able to get the SD reader to to work. Hello all. On a fresh install of 11.1/KDE 4.2.2 I am working with a document that contains Cyrillic characters. There is one character that will not display in Konqueror (an HTML document) nor will this character display in Kate text editor, nor in Kwrite. A small rectangular placeholder is displayed instead which I assume means "unknown character". Other Cyrillic characters display correctly. The same HTML document displays the character correctly using Firefox and a document created with OpenOffice also displays correctly. The HTML was created from a MS Word doc using wvWare. The Kate, Kwrite, and OO documents were created by copy-n-paste from the Gnome character map. Hi, I am at a hotel in China where I can't get onto the internet with linux. I have previously written about my steps to get onto the internet at hotels here: http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse/2008-07/msg00503.html None of these tricks are working here, the last step where I ask if the Internet help people can see my computer and allow it on the internet is not possible because of a language barrier. I am connected with a cable connection via ethernet, and can get linux to connect to the hotel network via knetwork manager. But the browser will not connect to the internet when I launch a browser. I have tried to do this with IE6 (IEs4linux), Firefox, Opera, and Konqueror. When I launch the browser in Windows, I get the hotel login screen where one elects to pay money for the internet. When I launch a browser in Opensuse, I get no connection to anything, even though the knetworkmanager icon shows that I am connected to the network. I have manually set the IP numbers for the connection with the hotel IT guy, but we still had the same result; no connection with linux. Does anyone have any advice how I may overcome this problem? [opensuse] Experimenting with kde 4.2.2/dual head/Impress 3.0.0

All, I've got a Dell Inspiron 1525 that I use for presentations. I want to start using Linux to give them. I like using a dual head setup where the slides are on the projector, and speaker notes/etc. are on the laptop screen. I think Impress will support this. Not sure about kde 4.2.2 I've gone into sax2 and enabled Xinerama mode in a side by side config. The projector is now to the right of my laptop screen logically. ie. If I move my mouse off the right hand edge of the laptop screen, it appears on the projector. When I launch Impress and select slide show settings, the multiple screens pull-down is grayed out. :( If I start a slide show, the slides are on the projector, but they are not synced with the main Impress window. :( Am I asking too much from kde 4.2.2? Hi list I'm on openSuSE11.0 with OpenOffice 3.0, I've got two identical (well, nearly as we shall see) systems. On system A, if I have a file named say "A_file_with_æøå.odt" it opens just fine in OO. On system B, if I have an identical named file, it doesn't open, OO replaces the "æøå" characters with questionmarks and subsequently refuses to open the file. In all other aspects the system treats and works correctly with the national characters. So, I've got a problem with nationals and umlauts and so. Any hints? Hi all, At the moment I have an Intranet web server with Apache2 (WS). The web server provides the web pages for an erp system. The data of the erp system lies on a DRBD cluster server (CS), with a NFS4 export of the directory of the database. The web server has the NFS4 mounted as a directory. CS (NFS4 export /Data) --> WS (NFS4 mount /Data) I now want to present the web server to external access via DMZ, but keep the Data base server (CS) in the Internal Network. Can a DMZ with 2 SuSEfirewall2 firewalls (FW1 & FW2) be safely configured for the WS in the DMZ that has the NFS 4 mount for the Data Base that lies in the Internal Network on the file server, where only the WS is allowed to cross the Internal FW2 for Data on the CS? FW1 --> DMZ (Apache WebServer) --> FW2 --> Intranet (DRBD NFS4 /Data) Is there another way such Data Base data is provided to web servers in the DMZ than with NFS? For some time now, zypper lu reports have been inconsistent with zypper up actions. The liboil problem has been around for some time, disappearing sometimes after an update and then reappearing, bashdb is new just now. Running OpenSUSE 11.0. I use kst quite a bit. The app is provided in kde3, but not kde4. There is a kst for kde4. I do not know how reliable it is. It is not AFAIK in the openSUSE KDE4 packages. [opensuse] SuSE 11.1 no longer is able to boot from XFS?

Greetings and felicitations, Um, this seems like a very weird situation. Not sure I believe what the message is telling me -- since it makes no sense to make such a backwards step. I say this from the perspective of burning an 11.1 x86_64 DVD and setting everything up, including a /boot partition with my file systems formatted in XFS. Yet I get a message that the system won't be able to boot because the /boot partition is formatted with XFS. Is this a bogus install message (didn't seem to stop the install from starting/running)? Do I have to go back to 11.0 or earlier to support XFS booting? So what's up? Why am I getting this message. Do I install 10.3 where I can boot from XFS then run multiple updates (dunno about 11.0). Seems like a bassackwards way of obtain the the desire solution. I started the install anyway, and decided/hoped I'd be able to fix the problem (otherwise, I'll be redoing the install :-))... Any ideas why I'm seeing this odd message? Booting from XFS has been supported at least back to SuSE9 if not before. I have a Creative Live! USB webcam, which used to work. [opensuse] Samba filenames and dates wrongly handled in Krusader

Howdie, list! I'm trying to keep two mirrored directories synchronized between my OS11.1 laptop and a Windows Samba share via my home WLAN. I'm trying to do this manually, with the Krusader's "Compare/Synchronize Directories" tool. Problem is, the oldest files on the remote share appear as if created in year 2106 and having zero length (they have the right lengths and datestamps if viewed from Konqueror). Also, Krusader doesn't manage non-ASCII filenames well - I have _many_ filenames containing Slovenian characters which always trigger an error if I try to copy them over Samba. What gives? Is there a Krusader config I should edit? I performed a fresh install of opensuse 10.3 and proceeded to go to http://software.opensuse.org/search for the codecs I selected and executed Codec-Audio-Video.ymp. During the installation process I received a dialogbox with the following major message and assoc options. [opensuse] Another Modem App -- or -- howto resize minicom window bigger than 80x25?

Listmates, I like minicom, but I need to resize the window size to something like 140x60 instead of the default 80x25. Can I do that with minicom? Man page isn't helpful, or I'm blind. I'm trying to get remote Xapps running on an old Solaris 2.5/CDE/X11R5 sun host to display on my "local" openSUSE 11.1 Gnome workstation, both on the same, trusted local network. The Sun Solaris doesn't have ssh available, so X forwarding isn't possible. I use NX connection to the Suse workstation. 1) Local Suse workstation (Xserver): I've tried to follow this guide to configure the Xserver and XDMCP (for remote CDE dtlogin in the next phase): http://www.novell.com/communities/node/6669/rdp-linux-managing-gui-displays… That is edited /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager so that /etc/gdm/gdm_sysconfig.conf contains: DISPLAYMANAGER_REMOTE_ACCESS="yes" DISPLAYMANAGER_XSERVER_TCP_PORT_6000_OPEN="yes" ps -ax | grep X 29989 tty7 Ss+ 0:10 /usr/bin/X :0 -br -verbose -auth /var/run/gdm/auth-for-gdm-jJuKRn/database vt7 xhost + Disabled Suse Firewall and AppArmor 2) Remote Sun (Xclient): Use a telnet login from Suse, export the DISPLAY to Suse and try to start an Xapplication. Solaris uses csh. setenv DISPLAY ip_adr_of_suse:0.0 xclock This generates the following error messages and no xclock on Suse: Xlib: connection to "ip_suse_desktop:0.0" refused by server Xlib: No protocol specified 3) While the guide above used 'xhost +' only, I thought maybe additional Xauth was neccessary. Copied the magic keycode using 'xhost list $DISPLAY' on Suse and pasted it manually to Sun using 'xhost> add' according to the follwoing howto, telnet section http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Remote-X-Apps-6.html#ss6.2 Now the error messages changed to xclock Xlib: connection to "ip_suse_desktop:0.0" refused by server Xlib: Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 key Error: Can't open display: "ip_suse_desktop:0.0" Tried the same using an openSUSE 10.3 remote machine and got similar errors when starting xclock there. (using 'ssh -X' here works ok). My question is: Howto solve this Xserver access problem? May the NX connection and not a normal local Gnome/X11 login cause problems for the X authorization? running openSUSE 10 3 x86_64 with kfe 3.5.10 "release 44" all of a sudden the fonts in the meassage body have revereted to something I can't identify but are very basic. Trying to reset through kmail settings appearance I can now only change to my desired font (BH Lucida) to affect the header section. The unwanted font still remains in the text of the message. The same problem applies to all other available fonts, I am using the custom fonts option.. The fault started last night and I have made no changes that I can think of to the setup up that might have caused it. I have tried to find config files in my home/kde that I might look at but nothing obvious springs to mind. Any ideas where I might look to fix this please ? Listmates, I'm having trouble compiling a webcam driver, and I've discovered that my system is confused about its kernel. According to Yast Software Management, I have kernel default and sources: 2.6.27.21-0.1.2 but uname -r outputs 2.6.27.19-3.2-default This might explain why the Makefile falls over at awk: cmd. line:1: fatal: cannot open file `/lib/modules/2.6.27.19-3.2- default/build/include/linux/version.h' for reading (No such file or directory) What's going on here? [opensuse] Extracting a single file from an RPM

I have a RPM file built with rpmbuild which contained sourcefiles for the application. Due to a disk crash, I lost the original sources. I still have a copy of the project.src.rpm which contains a file that I need to recover. How can I recover/extract a single file from an RPM file? I do not want to 'install' the whole RPM as it would clobber files of the same name, most of which have been changed over time. One of the files in the RPM file contains information I need to recover.
