[opensuse] How do I get kedit back to normal?

Hiya gang, I'm finally getting around to asking this question. In the picture, when I mouse on 'open recent' a list pops up next to it. Every item in the list also has the location of that item after it in brackets '[ ]'. I hate this as it makes the list way too large and harder to read. In SuSE 9.3 and earlier, this never happened, only on this 10.3 (I presume). How do I get rid of the garbage in the brackets? There's nothing in the 'settings' that does anything about it. [opensuse] KDE4 crash

I'm using OpenSuse 11.0 32bit os. I was using kde4. Since it was a recent installation I experimented with a few different wall papers, tried to get different ones on each desktop like kde3 - gave up. Then tried a few Compiz opitions - didn't work - no big deal. Then the system started bogging down badly. Checking the system monitor it should KDE4 as zombie. I decided to shut everything down and reboot. When I rebooted, it booted to the login screen, then after logging in, it played some start up music and booted to a completely black screen with a useable arrow cursor, but nothing else on the screen. I finally rebooted and logged in using iceWM, which works fine. But I'd like to find out if there is a way to get KDE4 back, short of removing it with yast and re-installing it. [opensuse] MBR corrupted by installer?

This is my first message on the list, so hello to all :) I have had some problems installing openSUSE. I have several partitions with several OS, and the MBR is used by the Windows Vista bootloader (BCD). In one of those partitions, I had Ubuntu installed, with GRUB in the Linux partition itself, not in the MBR, and everything was working fine. Yesterday I installed openSUSE 11.1 from DVD, and just after that, the computer wasn't booting. I mean, neither BCD nor GRUB are loading. I just get the classical "Veryfing DMI pool data..." and it just stops there, with no messages. I had marked especifically in the installer that I wanted GRUB to be installed in /dev/sda6 (the Linux partition), so I am not sure what happened and why it modified the MBR. Anyway, just to be sure, I restored the MBR with a LiveCD and 'dd' (I had a backup) and everything worked fine again. Then I reinstalled openSUSE, but the same problem appeared again. I compared the MBR (dd & diff) before and after installing openSUSE and it _is_ being modified, but I am not sure why. I am not using the "automatic configuration" option in the installer. Any suggestions? I want to keep the BCD bootloader. Thank you. So the fix eventually fixed the issue, but created another one. I reported bnc#398315, what was about repos' changes were saved when I hit abort in the installer. [opensuse] RAID1 boot problems

For years I've been setting up (open)suse machines with three (or more) partitions - each one using software RAID1, all partitions created and RAID set up during the installation. Has worked (at least up to 10.3) like a dream... /dev/md0 as /boot, /dev/md1 as /, and /dev/md2 as swap is(was) my current standard. Is it true that you simply can't do this (at least the /boot bit) with opensuse 11.x? I don't understand why this doesn't work, why this has changed in 11.x since it worked so well up to 10.3, and what I should be doing instead? If you want to reduce cost, try the Sun "virtual box" solution. I have the following configuration: Lenovo T60P, with the ATI video card OpenSuse11.0 as base OS Sun Virtual Box VMs- MS XP Pro x 2, MS Vista Also a second drive with SLED10,SP2 as base OS VMware workstation VMs- MS XP Pro x2 I tried the dual boot thing for a while, but the MBR was too touchy and ended up to be much to much trouble for that little convenience. Just my $.05 worth. Tony ...
