[opensuse] USB PC Camera install

Got a USB PC camera which I would like to use with Skype. It was a cheapy and I found not very much on google about drivers to be used. The camera, 0c45:613e microdia cam, should work with the sn9c102 driver, at least that is what the table of "USB device supported by debian Kernel Modules" tells me. In this list I also find under the USB id following lettersoup: dz*dc*dsc*dp*icFFisc*ip* There is no explanation towards this row of letters. I assume that if Debian supports it in its kernel, Suse will have it too but found no info on Google. Attached the webcam to my Laptop, Pentium IIi with Suse 10.3 and KDE and ran modprobe sn9c102. No protest from the system. Lsusb -v gives no address or any info if the webcam is running. What is the next step in order to see with the webcam. Seems that no /dev/video is made. [opensuse] new system question

The hardware compatibility list appears to be out of date. Has anyone had any experience with the following?? Processor Speed 2.40 GHz, 1066 FSB, 8MB Processor Type Intel® Core™ 2 Quad RAM 4 GB, 667MHZ DDR2 SDRAM (4 Modules) Hard Drive Size 150 GB SATA (Will replace with 2x320GB Maxtor drives that are in my present system) Motherboard is an Intel with 975 chip set. Any comments would be helpful. One of my main concerns is will I have to use the 2.6.22.18-SL103_BRANCH_20080221152521-default kernel so it will boot past the SATA controllers. My present ASUS motherboard with SIS SATA controlers will only boot with the above kernel or with 11.0 alpha 2. Have not had time to try Beta 1. [opensuse] trouble with Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT PCI-E graphics card

Hello everyone, Well, we've got this supposedly hot card (for full description see the link below) http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Games/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l… And it seems fine. However, the Nvidia driver for OpenSuSE 10.3, 32 bit (that's what we are trying to use it under) wouldn't pick it up and on top of that lspci lists it as an "inknown Nvidia device" or some such - in other words, it can't figure out the model number. I think the two problems may be related. Any help on this will be greatly appreciated. [opensuse] Quick perl question - why are @array[$num] and $array[$num] the same?

Listmates: I don't know who I have to thank for this, but I think it was Anders who recommended that I look at perl after one of my last weird bash questions. I have a syntax question as I go though perl. The situation. I read a file into an array and then go to reference each line. my $NUM = 1; open FILE, ".bashrc" or die $!; my @array = <FILE>; How is it legal that I can reference the array element either as @array[element] or $array[element]?: while (@array[$NUM]) { print "$NUM : @array[$NUM]\n"; $NUM++; } while ($array[$NUM]) { print "$NUM : $array[$NUM]\n"; $NUM++; } From what I've read, it seems like the list $array[element] would just return the number of characters in the list $array[element] not the text itself. [opensuse] TV Capture

Hi, I am writing to ask for information and recommendations for shifting one of my major computer tasks from WinXP to Opensuse. I use an ATI TV Wonder Pro capture card to capture video input from old videos which I play on a Video Player, to my hard drive. I use Nero to capture the video, and then convert it so that I can write the file to DVD. I have a number of older scientific videos which I can't easily replace, so I am trying to convert them one by one to dvd. Everything works ok on Windows, but I am trying to learn to do the same task on Suse. I have spent a bit of time during the last year trying to find out how, with negative results. I was able to watch the video input on the computer when I ran 10.2, but now can't get that to work on 10.3. In any event I couldn't find how to save the video to hard drive. I found a few apps might let me watch and save the video on the computer, but haven't been able to get them to work. Most won't pick up the tv input from the capture card, others won't compile, others just don't work. So if you have recommendations that would help me to accomplish my goal I would appreciate it. I wanted something that had better file handling, data structures, loop and conditional expression support, regexp support, floating point, etc.. Just something that would allow me to do in 20-30 lines of code all (or at least 99%) the administrative stuff I need to do, but where I have run into limitations in bash. If I was ever going to do a big project, it would be in c/c++, (heaven forbid Fortran) something I already know. I thought perl would be a step up in scripting language from bash. Is that the wrong move? Would something else give me all perl's functionality in a better script language? I was really looking forward to the CPAN resource. You guys let me know what you think. [opensuse] mod_authnz_ldap caching my session

Hi, is there a way to clear my cache on my browser through httpd? my senario, i have a folder that was secured by mod_authnz_ldap through .htaccess, when i visit my webpage and it brought me to a folder which is secure through .htaccess, it pops-up an authentication and after i close my browser and open a browser again and visit that webpage, and there authentication is not working anymore. it will only work if a clear the cache on my browser. is there any remedy to this? can i configure httpd to clear the cache whenever .htaccess is read? [opensuse] Windows vs. Suse OO docuent file size

Hi, I hope that this is the proper venue to ask this question, otherwise I will get 30 or so replys telling me otherwise. I produce a monthly newsletter for an organization to which I belong. I have been using MS Word to do it, but I really would prefer to produce it in Open Office on Suse. This month I tried to produce it in Open Office and was able to do it, and I thought that was grand. Goodbye WinXP, hello Suse! My file size in Word was about 4400kb, and OO file size was 396kb for the same document saved in opendocument format. I have to convert the files to PDF files for two reasons, the first is that we don't want the document to be easily altered once it is sent out. The second, and most important from a practical aspect is that the file size has to be small enough to be downloaded by members who are on dialup. The file size of the Word/PDF conversion is 97kb, and the OO/PDF conversion is 402kb. I use a personal limit of 300kb for document size when I send out the newsletter, otherwise it takes too long for the dialup users to download the document. I would like to know if there is a way to get around this. I tried to zip the file and the resultant OO pdf file was 397kb. I don't need to zip the XP/pdf, it is small enough already. This is the main reason that I still use windows, so if anyone has an answer for me I would certainly find it to be welcome news.
