[opensuse] YAST - Pet Peave - Why refresh before displaying the list of Community Repositories

Listmates, I was helping on another post and I simply needed to take a look at what the names in "Community Repositories" were. Why in the heck does Yast have to refresh all the GD repositories on my box just to display the list of repositories available? Refresh after I have selected a repository, not just to display a list of the ones available. It wasn't until after 10 minutes of refreshes, that I was to see the list of community repositories. (Yes, I know I can just look at http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/ , but I wanted to make sure I had the nomenclature right so that the information I provided matched what would be seen in Yast, Community Repositories. [opensuse] strtof problem - what am I doing wrong?

Listmates, I was comparing input handling between perl and c and I ran into a very weird problem with the strtof function in c. What am I doing wrong? strtof doesn't seem to be working like the man page shows. [opensuse] Please put DVDs on FTP

Can the Devs PLEASE put the 11.0Beta2 DVDs on ftp???? I've been downloading the PPC DVD since yesterday. It's currently at 11% getting about 8k/s because there is only 1 seeder with 100% of the file. At this rate, Beta3 will be out before I can get Beta2 installed. Please put the DVDs on the ftp server. [opensuse] Omnivision 2mb webcam only VGA resolution on Vostro 1700

Hi, I have my new Vostro 1700 running happily. Only issue is the webcam resolution. The builtin UVC compatible webcam is a OV2640 (which is a 2mb cam). It works fine in Skype. Cant get it to work in xawtv. Mplayer works with the following: mplayer tv:// -tv driver=v4l2:fps=15 I must supply "fps", but the value is not used - it defaults to a couple of frames a second (prop about 3fps). The resolution also defaults to 640x480, even if I supply other values in -tv options. Anyone else have this cam working at higher resolutions? Hello, It's a bit OT, but I don't know where to ask. I'm the author of the partition rescue HOWTO. Usually, when one is dealing with the partition table, there is little risk. The partition table is what it says, a table. the actual file system is written when one use mkfs, not fdisk. well... sort of. I friend of mine said yesterday that in case of *logical* partition (5 and up) the file allocation table (superbloc?) of the partition is written on a sector, at the beginning of the partition so the question: How exacltly do fdisk works. say I create one primary partition of 20Go, and the rest is extended. In the extended I write two logical partitions, then I *w* write the table. what is really written? only the MBR (sort of) partition table or is the allocation table of the partitons 5 and 6 written right now, overwriting may be some data?? My friend say yes, some data is lost. [opensuse] Different Drivers for Intel Graphic Card

Hi, I've installed openSUSE 10.3 on a system with the following graphic card (output from lspci -v): VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Graphics Controller With 10.3, xorg.conf shows that the driver is "Intel". I later then installed SLED10 SP1. xorg.conf shows that the driver is "i810". With the "Intel" driver, I'm able to get the resolution suitable for the screen. But with "i810", I'm unable to get the same resolution. Can anybody advise on how I can get the "Intel" driver onto the SLED10 SP1 installation? Thanks. P.S. I have a number of small OpenSuSE 10.3 Samba File Servers. They have commercial software that does a good job of backing up. but, like most, not such a good job of restoring. Especially if you need to do a bare metal recovery. On some of these systems I keep an identical drive already set up so that if needed I can plug it in and do a data only restore. I don't use or believe that strongly in mirroring or duplexing so I don't want to go there. Question is: What are the easiest/best solutions for Disaster Recovery...? One that a "Shop Owner" could perform with a little help. These Servers don't have any "IT" people on staff, but I'd like them to be as in dependant as possible in a crisis. I'm open to both built in tools (dump/restore rsync, etc.), although I'm not that familiar with them, and commercial..
