[opensuse] OpenSuse 11.0Beta2 partitioner problem

I got Beta2 installed on my PC which also has WinXP and Suse10.2 64Bit installed. At the end of my hdd I had about 100GB free and created a 30GB root partition for Beta2 there. The problem is that the Yast partition tool could not detect my encrypted /home partition from Suse10.2 64Bit. It called it "unknown filesystem". Is it not possible to import/convert that encrypted partition and use it with OpenSuse 11.0? The behavior of the bootloader is also strange to me. Before installing Beta2 I had a grub menu consisting of "Suse10.2", "Windows" and a "Suse10.2 failsave" entry. Now I have an additional boot menu before the old one. So I can choose between "Suse 11.0", "Windows", "Suse 11.0 failsave" and "Suse10.2", which leads me to the old boot menu. [opensuse] v11.0 Beta2 on Thinkpad 390X

Just finished installing Beta2 on my Thinkpad 390X(P-3/500, 256MB, 40GB). 1. Install went smoothly. Very few dependency issues. (I did not install zypper this time). When I tried to deselct beagle, the only option was beagle-firefox. Is it actually there?(noticed same thing on my PPC install). Speed much better compared to v10.3 2. System was able to start without reboot. Maybe the prior screen should explain that a little better? 3. YaST started in text-mode after installed system came up for hardware config(noticed same issue on my PPC install). 4. Power management still broken. v10.3 did not work either. Possibly a model specific issue. Power management works properly on my Powerbook. I installed KDE 3 as the desktop. I tried KDE 4 on my Powerbook, but it was very different, and I didn't care for the setup. I couldn't figure out how to change stuff. I did not install any eye candy(partly due to low end machine, partly because I don't care for it). [opensuse] NCL on 64-bit

Hi! I am trying to install NCL 2 on 10.3 64-bit PC with kde3. I am following this cool soultions article: http://www.novell.com/support/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId… When i run ./ncl_install i get: [ncl_install] ncl_install.sh v2.4 started [ncl_install] mode = upgrade [ncl_install] option = [ncl_install] ERROR: unable to install the 32-bit Novell Client for Linux on x86_64 Does anyone have the NCL installed on a 64-bit system? [opensuse] Distro Question

I have a Linux-curious friend whom I'd like to introduce to openSuSE. I'm wondering if the current 10.3 download is updated with current applications and drivers, or would someone installing it be starting back at the beginning, with lots of updates required? If the former, it would probably be safer for a newbie to start out with a solid, well-sorted-out 10.3 than to deal with the inevitable issues that a new version will have. If the latter, then it would probably make sense to wait for a released 11.0. I'd like openSuSE to make a good first impression - not leave him wondering why he ever agreed to give it a try. [opensuse] Drives... how to work them .. Very basic NOOB question

Hi Guys This might seem like very basic questions to ask but I need to know. 1) When I installed Linux on my new 160 GB hard drive it created 2 partitions. One is a 20 GB "system" partition also referred to as the swap partition. The other 140 GB is used for the users on my System. Am I correct with this assumption? 2) I have a DVD drive but I can't figure out how to access it from the CLI. I know in Linux all devices is perceived as a file. So I assume accessing it would be something like cd /drives/dvdrom? 3) Ok I read a lot of things about mounting drives. Mounting a drive makes it part of the directory structure if I am right. So if I insert a DVD rom I need to mount it first before I can access it? If this is not the case what do I need the mounting bit for? 4) I am busy with a pet project. Basically I am converting all my CD, DVD and other personal content such as photos, legal documents to electronic format and using a LAMP setup to allow me to access this information anywhere in the world. My main problem is that my Music collection alone is about 75GB and from what I understand MySQL will create its data file somewhere on my system partition. How to I create MySQL data files under another directory as my swap partition wont be able to handle this data. 5) What is the equivalent of the M$ program files directory in Linux? Very basic questions I know but then I need to learn and asking is the only way. I used Knoppix, when I wrote tune2fs the version informations of tune2fs returned, after it I tried to make e2fsck -D, but it just returned the version information of e2fsck in a moment. Perhaps directory indexes are set up already, how can I check this? TIA.
