[opensuse] two issues with with T61p/opensuse 10.3

Hi, I installed on my new T61p openSuse 10.3. Not exactly "out of the box" but it works. 1. When wired I can get connected to internet, but when tried wireless - I can't. I can see all networks around my house and when tried to connect mine - can't? card is configured (Intel Lenovo Thikpad Card wlan-wlan0) I know SLED works fine on T61p but WiFi, that's why I tried openSuse 10.3 I use KNetwork Manager. on forums.suselinuxsupport.de, opensuse.us, suseforums.net and couple others I saw many people have the same problem. But can't see any fix? any help appreciated. 2. When connect USB drive get error message: "hal-storage-removable no <(action, result)" On google I found it's (was?) a bug. Fixs I don't understand. [opensuse] virtualbox 1.6 (or whatever it is now called)

I have virtualbox 1.5.4 installed on openSUSE 10.3 from a download from virtualbox. I am considering upgrading to 1.6. Two questions (1) can I upgrade without risking my virtual machines? I know I can make copies, but I am still curious. (2) is there any advantage in using the release from virtualbox over the one in the build service? In the 1.5 series, the download from virtualbox was claimed to have fixed things not in the build release, which stayed a few point releases behind. [opensuse] grsync backup to fat32 problem

I am trying to copy the contents of an ext3 partition to an external usb drive with a fat32 partition. The first copy copied most files, but there were files with special characters in their name which failed to copy. I used krename to change the file names on the ext2 partition but that did not change the file names. So i renamed them by hand. Now i used grsync to update the fat32 partition. [opensuse] Need help about filename encoding

My problem that openSUSE use another encoding by default for ext3 filenames. How can I guess what encoding I used before and what encoding do I use now? [opensuse] Problem with openSUSE updater applet

[opensuse] Ramdisk Support

I am evaluating (and learning) how to create Disaster Recovery (Bare Metal) Systems. One of the packages I'm evaluating say's I need a kernel with ramdisk support, checking the On Line Support seems to suggest a number of problems with 10.3 Boot Disks. My Systems are 10.3 32bit. I use one now with another system and it works fine. I have had same concerns about HP with windows, largely what drove me away from them to try the Epson, also the dis-abling of the printer for B/W printing when a color tank went dry...then found the same thing with my current printer. I have M$N on one HD attached to the mobo, a huge raid array (3ware) with 2 partitions: home and data. My linux partitions are on another single HD. The only irreplaceable data are on home and 'data' partitions. The only problem with backing up about 2TB of data is I need to get another set of drives and LVM or raid them to ~2TB as well. Seems too costly, but the alternative might be far costlier... [opensuse] Need help configuring X

Hello all, I am new to OpenSuse. I just installed OpenSuse 10.3 on an old Dell box. During the installation process, I asked to have Gnome desktop installed. After the installation process finished I re- booted the box. At this point I received an error stating that X had not started and asked that I type in the root password in order for X to be corrected. Needless to say, X still did not start. The video card reports "Integrated Trio 3D 696, 3D Rage Pro AGP 1X". Can anyone give a hint as to how to get X configured? [opensuse] Networking Issue (Revisited)

Hello folks! A long time ago I installed a home/office network based on a SUSE (~9.x) server with several Win clients. The server was also connected to the Internet via an ADSL modem (configured as a modem, not a router) - and everything has worked fine through all the SUSE updates through to the current 10.3. The SUSE firewall was also configured and ran as expected. I had the supreme temerity to install a new half-way decent work-station/server. The 10.3 re-install went like clockwork except for one problem: 1. The Win clients all communicate happily with the server via SAMBA. 2. The server itself talks to the Internet via the ADSL modem. I cannot get the client Win systems talking to the Internet (as they did before) through the server i.e. I'm missing something in the network setup. Here are a few details: (For the time being I have firewalling disabled so as not to complicate things.) 1. The ADSL modem is connected to server on eth0, which is set to take an IP address etc dynamically via modem's DHCP server. That works (otherwise you wouldn't be seeing this). 2. The new server is connected to the LAN via eth1 to a hub. 3. THE Server IP is set to 192.168.1.100 on eth1. 4. IP forwarding enabled. 5. The DHCPD daemon is installed to serve client machines and works fine. They define 192.168.1.100 as their gateway.
