[opensuse] Update problems

Using 10.3 64-bit and today the suseupdater shows 4 updates: 2 amarok, which i do not even have installed and gdm and libcurl4. I am trying to install these updates but it never seems to update. Just goes back to red exclamation and those same 4 updates show as needing to be updated. [opensuse] ppd file needed?

Hello Suse people, On the 21st I asked for help about cups. It was about a 10.3 new install on my son's machine, Can't get his Brother MFC3430C printer working. Installed the Brother driver and cupswrapper and it shows up in localhost:631 and is now configurable by root (Thanks Carlos) Can send a test message which can be seen sending but the printer doesn't respond. Checking further on the Wiki, Brother install instructions, linux openprinting etc. I find conflicting info. One place says that for the driver to work it needs the ppd. Another place says if you have the ppd you don't need the driver.(Or that is what I understood in my confused state) Can the printer guru's clarify this for me? I've got to get this thing working. BTW the database states that this printer works excellently. Hate to let my son see that this don't work in Linux and he has to go buy a new printer. [opensuse] Video Processing

I have two parts of a video. One part is in a folder labeled AUDIO_TS and the other is in a folder labeled VIDEO_TS. (Did I mention that I'm a video newbie?) Since SMplayer will play the video, I assume that it is possible to merge these two folders ending up with a complete video that could be written, for example, to a DVD. Can anyone point me to a way to accomplish this feat? I'd appreciate it. [opensuse] KDE unable to login as user

ref opensuse 10.3 /KDE thinkpad x40 Problem: kdm loads ok and the login dialog shows up. If I choose root everything is OK. If I chose user1 starts to log but the graphics hangs for ever and it does not login. What I tried: 1. I checked the permission of /home. I did root.root recursively and then user1.users recursively. 2. delete /tmp 3. rename /home/user1/.kde 4. rm ~/.ICEauthority and ~/.Xauthority 5. Run sax2 and reset the graphic card 6. I created a new user /home/user2 . It does not login either. Previous actions: Everything was working well until I did a big upgrade with smart. kde and qt were upgraded. For some reason I am concern about qt upgrade. I do have a backup but I am interested in know why this happened. A couple of weeks ago the same occur in my desktop. There I use a full system restore. There are other threads in the net with the same problem but not good answers. [opensuse] Duplex printing with KDE4

I know that my printer can actually do it because under kde3 it worked perfectly when I told it to. However under KDE4 I open a pdf with okular, want to print it and the duplex option is completely disabled, greyed out. In addition Okular tells me that the type of my printer is writing a postscript file and not a printer which is running over cups in my network. Does anyone have an idea? [opensuse] Postfix & authenticated relay

Hi, I'm running Suse 10.3. I'm trying to set up Postfix to allow users to send mail from the Internet through my mailserver if they are authenticated. I have most things set up OK I think, except for one thing, but I don't know were to look for it. The fact is pam tries to authenticate the user via mysql, but in the query it omits the domain from the mail-address. Where can I configure this ? I installed pam_mysql from the buildservice, but this did complain about some dependencies. As far as I could see all was installed, so I forced pam-mysql to be installed. Maybe that is the problem ? In /etc/pam.d this is smtp : #%PAM-1.0 auth required pam_mysql.so user=xxx passwd=yyy db=postfix table=mailbox usercolumn=username passwdcolumn=password crypt=1 account required pam_permit.so In the README in /usr/doc/packages/pam_mysql I read : For instance, if you want to use it in conjunction with Postfix, the SASL configuration file "smtpd.conf", which is put in the Cyrus-SASL's plugin directory (or the location included in the SASL_PATH environment variable), would look like the following: pwcheck_method: auxprop mech_list: plain login cram-md5 digest-md5 sql_engine: mysql sql_database: sys sql_user: someuser sql_passwd: fubar sql_select: SELECT password FROM users WHERE name='%u' and domain='%r'; But I don't find that smtpd.conf. I hope I made myself clear, so any suggestions ? [opensuse] Again, I can not deactivate the table toolbar in OpenOffice writer

I remove it by any of the two methods, I move away from the table, return to it, and I have back the damm toolbar. Does somebody know how to permanently disable the table toolbar? Including removing the code itself if it resides on a separate file. The method that appeared to solve this the previous time was removing the entire openoffice directory on home. [opensuse] mkinitrd failure (raid related?)

Got this error running on vanilla linux-2.6.25.4 and the KOTD kernel-source-2.6.25.4-14.1.x86_64.rpm Kernel image: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.25.4-14-default Initrd image: /boot/initrd-2.6.25.4-14-default Root device: /dev/md2 (mounted on / as ext3) Resume device: /dev/md1 Fatal storage error. Device /dev/ does not have a driver. All I could find on Google was a pointer to the (old) bug report: http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-bugs/2007-08/msg02198.html Any suggestions? Thanks.
