[opensuse] Retail vs. download version?

Hello- I'm going to help a friend upgrade their system from SuSE 10.0 to OpenSUSE 10.3 at the weekend and I'm strugging to get my head round the difference between the download and boxed (retail) version. He's given me the latest boxed version of SuSE, seems to be two install DVDs. I also have a download version, openSUSE-10.3-GM-KDE-i386.iso. This appeals because it's a CD image, the server doesn't have a DVD drive, only a CD drive, so installing from the boxed DVDs would appear to be slightly tricky :-) If I install from the download version, presumably there are packages which won't be available? Exim is one that springs to mind - the machine currently runs exim and my friend prefers it to postfix. Can I install from the download version and then copy the retail DVDs on to the server's hard drive and make all the packages available simply by changing the install source? Is there going to be a problem with updates if I do this, or do all of SuSE's update servers have ALL the updates, not just updates for the download version? [opensuse] burn from dvd to iso format

[opensuse] Reviving Mouse Pointer

Yesterday i updated KDE4 via Yast, then continued working normally. No reboot, same session, today the mouse pointer does not show :-) Is there a way to revive it without closing the session ? [opensuse] slow painting of window borders in KDE

Recently I've started having a minor issue in KDE that I cannot trace to a cause. Maybe someone here has an idea.... Basically things are working fine... but after several days of being logged into KDE, the painting of the window borders starts to slow down. If I open an application.. for example a Terminal window, the window opens almost immediately, but the window border and min/max/close buttons take 2 to 5 seconds to be painted. During this time, I can use the application... this slow painting does not seem to affect general performance, and CPU load is almost zero. So far the only fix seems to be to close the KDE session (log out of KDE) and then log back in again. Once I've done that, KDE is back to normal and the window borders are painted so fast you cannot see it happen... ie normal behavior. This stays like this for a few days, until it all slows down again. Any ideas? Someone trying amarok2? If i start amarok, an error message occurs in the lower right of the windows: Could not connect to server. Wrong username or password. Which server? mysql? last.fm? I did not any configuration! Does it try amarok1 configuration file? I hear also amarok scanning my music file on the server, but no collection is updated! Anyone? Regards! When I su from root to another id I can not anymore list links in /proc/'pid'/ of the original process. This creates a problem when for example running perl as root and switching id (using $>) after which in some circumstances perl tries to start /proc/self/exe which is a link to /usr/bin/perl and fails. Is this a known bug ? When I open up *some* windows (e.g. dolphin to look at my home directory), the window opens but nothing appears in the window unless I mouseover the close, minimize or maximize buttons in the top right of the window. Once I do that, my files and directories appear in the dolphin window. Dolphin is not the only thing this happens to. And it only happens once desktop effects are enabled. If I disable the desktop effects, then everything works as it should. Anyone else, seen anything like this??
