[opensuse] [Heretic question] Syncing Windows Mobile devices

I've been using Palm OS based PDAs for about 15 years and syncing with jpilot (which uses pilot-link). For the past several years I have had a Palm Treo 650. I am due for an upgrade as my Treo has been very beat up. While I would love to have a Nokia 810, but it is not a smartphone. In any case, without changing my carrier the only Palm option I have is to upgrade to the Treo 680 which is a decent device. AT&T also now supports the Palm Centro. However, I've been looking at the Blackberry Pearl and Curve models. These are both Windows Mobile. If I become a heretic and use a Windows Mobile device, I would no longer be able to use jpilot and my alternatives are either Evolution or Kontact. I'm not concerned about my address book and calender, it is primarily the notes. I use KDE on SuSE 10.3 on my home desktop system. I also sync to that other system from Redmond at work. The questions are: 1. What is the best way to transfer my data from the Palm to Windows Mobile. Should I use Outlook on Windows to transfer my data to the Windows Mobile device or should I sync the Palm with Kontact or Evolution and transfer the data that way. 2. What is the best way to sync a Windows Mobile device on Linux. [opensuse] Helping test KDE4

Is there no straightforward way to get and install the current builds? I'd be more than willing to do some QA, but everything I've seen so far has involved setting up to build everything from scratch. Frequently, I'm led to believe, as KDE4 is still a fast moving target. Doesn't it make sense that there are enough potential testers with openSuSE 10.3 systems for someone to make a repository available from which the core libraries and applications could be installed? I spend 60 or so hours a week writing, debugging, and building software. When I come home, I want to use it, not build it. In 10.3 it shows Realtec, and in 11.0 it shows Nvidia, which is the real card. Maybe it is something else, but the hw info in 10.3 is correct. The KMix from 11.0 is highly configuerable, much more than the one from 10.3. When i look for KMix in yast2, i only find KDE4-KMix. [opensuse] Extra keyboard functions and trackpad on MacBook 3.1 (Santa Rosa)

Hello.. After I installing openSUSE 10.3 64bit on my machine I make many hardware working as well, but there is two problem right now: * Extra keyboard functions (accessed using th fn key) are inaccessible. * The trackpad only has basic functions After I googling I find about this problem in ubuntu help page: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MacBook_Santa_Rosa It is need to patching kernel And I was thinking, if the development can fix it and make this two patch available in the next kernel update? because it is too hard to make a build kernel and uploaded for every one. [opensuse] Beagle waste

Seems in addition to wasting CPU resources its a drive hog. So I put in a warning line in dot bashrc du ./.beagle/ -ch | tail so each time i open a konsole I get a read on how much waste. [opensuse] openSUSE 11.0 and the Non-ready KDE4

Hi all ! Just installed openSUSE 11.0, with a KDE 4 desktop, and I can say that it is not ready. Not only it is full of bugs and crashes, but it is also lacks features. Very likely, that KDE 4 will not be ready for openSUSE 11.0 final. It is highly unlikely that even KDE 4.1 will be stable-enough and feature complete for day-to-day usage. Please provide an option to choose KDE3 desktop during setup. [opensuse] Upgrading my Brother HL-1250 printer

I wrote to the mfr of the printer, enquiring if there is a driver that would upgrade my printer to Postscript support. In answer, I was told to d/l this file: cupswrapperHL1250-1.0.2-1.i386.rpm Two questions: 1) This seems not to be a 64bit file; can I use it in my x86_64 machine? 2) There is a dependency problem with it: it reqpires lpr (which, from the name, I would have thought to be already on the machine from the beginning). YaST doesn't offer a file of that name, but only another called lprng, which it claims to be an enhanced lpr. But lprng won't install because of conflict with a 64bit file with the same name. What to do? [opensuse] efax-gtk revisited

At this point, efax-gtk has been coaxed into being in its Standby mode waiting for incoming faxes, and also in queuing messages from a virtual printer, all this without error messages -- a real advance. It has a problem, however, in sending queued messages to the outside world. After I enter the addressee's fax-phone number in the field (all in numerals, no parentheses, hyphens, or other such characters), the program tries to send, but can't because it now thinks the number is preceded by a "T". It isn't hard to imagine where the spurious "T" comes from. My guess is that the "AT" prefix has a doubled "T". Be that as it may, it appears to be a bug, and therefore something I can do nothing about by way of configuration. I got the RPM from the <wberrier> repository, and found it by using the webpin utility. I wish I new a way to warn people off it. But I have learned a lesson about the use of binary packages not from SUSE repositories. A member of the group has suggested, since that the RPM from which I installed is defective, I should start again from a source package -- I know that there is a source RPM available on the program's home page. That is indeed one of the options available to me for solving the fax problem. But whatever I do, I need to uninstall efax-gtk as it is. How to uninstall this program, which YaST doesn't know anything about, is now the problem. I have read glowing reference to the RUG utility, but YaST doesn't know anything about this either. I do not know anything about what dependencies efax-gtk may have, and do not want to risk having to delete also software on which yet other packages depend. [opensuse] unable to install SLES 9SP4 getting please make sure cd number 1 is in your drive

Hi Friends, I downloaded SLES 9SP4 and trying to install it on the Xeon server but the problem I am facing is this that I am able to boot through the cd but when the installation starts it says "please make sure that cd number 1 in your drive". Before burning the cd's I checked their md5sum and md5sums were correct. Now I am wondering why I am getting this error and what should I do to remove this.Moreover I tried to download SLES 9SP3 but the download does not starts and it shows below error Error: we are unable to complete the download at this time. Please try submitting your download request again or try again later You do not have the correct privileges to download the file.
