[opensuse] OpenOffice Impress sound

Impress does not play sound on Linux. However, it does with Openoffice on XP. I have had an exchange with the developer and now understand what is causing the delay on Linux. He offers this as a work around while they are sorting out the real solution. http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?t=50506&view=next However, it would be nice to substitute on SUSE 10.2 fmj which is available for SUSE 10.2 either from Packman or SUSE, I don't remember. However, I have not got that to work. In addition I have not been able to translate his instructions for jmf to a working solution as yet. If anyone knows how to get this working on SUSE and would willing to write up something clear for the rest of that would really be neat. [opensuse] SuSE Menu and Yast

Problem: yast entry is not any more under SuSE menu/computer tab This seems to be a problem I have in two installations of opensuse 10.3. Initially yast is there then without any problem is not there any more . It is in System config. Yast works ok. Under KDE menu is also OK. How can I add yast back to the SuSE menu/Computer tab. [opensuse] Can't connect to Creative Zen MTP device

I have a Creative Zen V Plus mp3 player, which is an MTP device, and can't get SUSE to detect it. Konqueror recognizes that there is a device mounted, but can't determine what it is. Meanwhile, both Amarok and gnomad2 complain that they cannot detect the mp3 player. I have the libmtp library installed, and some other relevant libraries. If anybody can offer any suggestions on getting this thing to work, I'd appreciate it. Please mention any other libraries you think I might need, I believe I have all the necessary ones but it can't hurt to check. [opensuse] Installing 10.3 to a USB external drive?

This may be stupid but a question it is. What if any problems will I have with 10.3 installed on an external USB drive? Windows is on the laptop internal drive. I guess grub will be installed to that. Will it handle booting to the external? Will it gracefully handle the times the external won't be plugged in? I guess it'll be slower then an internal drive. [opensuse] Zen v. vmware-Workstation to virtualize XP in 10.2

Mates, As a follow on to the previous Zen thread, I too would like further pre-install information on Zen verses vmware-Workstation. I'm dual-booting 10.2 and XP on my laptop at present and I would like to install XP into a virtual machine within 10.2 so I don't need to ever reboot (now rarely) to get into XP. I have a P4 duo-core processor w/1Gig of RAM and plenty of harddrive space. Where can I get more info to see if Zen will work or whether I will have to try a closed source vmware-Workstation. The only apps I ever need in XP are quickbooks, and occasionally an old Micrografx Designer. Thanks! -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E. [opensuse] Where does YaST remote desktop store its settings?

Hi all! I enabled remote administration in YaST; YaST -> Network Services -> Remote Adinistration It works as expectad, but the opened window is set to 1024x768. I have a dual monitor setup that does 1600x1024x2 and i would like the remote session to be at least 1280x1024, or better yet, full screen. [opensuse] Resizing partitions safely

Is there a way to "safely" resize extended partitions? I have a 2TB extended partition that has some reiserfs partitions inside and I'd like to shrink it without data loss. Sure, full backup etc... But it's not an easy option in this case. I felt guilty before because another poster told me that I ought to know about linux permissions. In fact I did but needed help with them as a beginner. That's why I thought I was wasting list members time. It seemed to be a list just for experts. I take your point about microsoft and the way they made me feel when I stopped paying for their support and using their products. They send reminders. What is not clear for me and microsoft users in general is the issue of me using opensuse as against the Novell equivalent in a commercial environment. Your post encourages me in that I have the freedom to use opensuse as and how I wish. Commercially, as a hobby or just for playing games. is that what you are really saying? [opensuse] OpenOffice 2.3.0 - Where oh where has my icon gone?

Hello Folks! After following the thread on OpenOffice 2.3.0, I tried the install (upgrade of 2.2.x, o/s version10.2). It went fine and everything works ... except that all of the menu icons have disappeared and all you see is text in their place. Does anyone have any idea of what's gone awry? Daniel
