[opensuse] avahi in opensuse 10.2?

Anyone actually seen this work with 10.2? It never seems to attempt to join the 224.0.0.251 multicast group. [opensuse] Best way to copy mail (kmail)

Hi all, This is a basic question, but what is the best way to copy my email files from one install (9.3) to my new install (10.2). Same machine. Old install is mounted as same user name mounted at "data1". I have not used kmail on the new install yet, but did open kmail once, have not set up users. I see may old mail in /data1/home/user/.kde/share/apps/kmail/mail. I see the same folder in the new install, with only a few sub-folders. Should I just copy the whole /mail folder over the new one and be done with it? Or would "cat" be better? Again, there is no mail in the new folder so I can overwrite it if need be. [opensuse] Need help creating a syslog -ng config file to perform a Syslog Daemon's Work.

I want to build a Syslog Server. I have a Linux Log file viewer so most of the work is done. http://www.kiwisyslog.com/log-viewer-v2-beta-info.htm I needs syslog-ng to listen to UDP/514 and write a continuous file on the information it hears. Fortunately I do not need any log rotation as the file is only text base and although it has the potential to reach large sizes I can deal with a lot of space. Syslog-ng appears to have many config files and I am not sure which to modify. Can anyone assist me with this short line of syntax, given the above Linux Log file's ability to display the file as it changes and the various parameters it uses, some of which I understand but not all. The ability to NOT have to maintain a M$ PC just to be a Syslog +daemon would be a breakthrough for so many sysop's who require real time syslog data. Data from my multiple IDS's is sent to my current M$ Windows Syslog+Daemon, however I do have a large Linux IDS Management Module that does number crunching, provides warnings and reports but cannot display the data in realtime. Syslog data is sent to UDP/514 to Facility's numbering Local 0-7. I just offer it as an example for delineation purposes. I know this is a big ask, but no one but no one currently produces as Linux Syslog Daemon + Log Viewer. Sometimes my Notebook HP nx6110 with OpenSuse10.2 decides to shut down. Last time I found for example this system message: Apr 25 17:19:38 duro kernel: ACPI: Critical trip point Apr 25 17:19:38 duro kernel: Critical temperature reached (178 C), shutting down. Apr 25 17:19:38 duro shutdown[7434]: shutting down for system halt Apr 25 17:19:38 duro init: Switching to runlevel: 0 Computer was cool because it was turned on for abou one minute. No 178 C. It happens sometimes and I do not like this behauviour. [opensuse] RE: Open Suse Alpha3 testing - upgradeability

For those people out there testing the next version of open suse 10,3 - could some great degree of testing involve testing the Product in a upgrade situation rather than a New installation. After I upgraded 10,1 to 10,2 RC I came across more bugs to the extent that the upgrade ability could only be rated as beta. I begin reporting upgrade bugs, however due to the enormity and frequent comment by suse.de (Then you should not buy new software). I was not prepared to waste more of my time. I always buy boxed software and my only plea for Alpha 10,3 that a great deal of testing is done via an upgrade (not clean) installation I have been testing software (given most of my earlier life's experience was with large Main Frame installations), and latter PC operating systems. The upgrade path for all New software application development is always the most difficult to achieve. As an active tester of RC software I need to gain some personal confidence that upgrade-ability has been tested by a few more dedicated other Kind Regards and Good Morning 06:30 GMT+10 Scott

[opensuse] Partition Resizing

I've been running OpenSuse 10.1 and subsequently 10.2 on a dual boot machine for some time now quite successfully. I'd like to ditch the Windows partition(s) altogether given that it hasn't been used for over 6 months and I can do everything I need to on OpenSuse. Is it possible to simply remove the Window partitions and reallocate to OpenSuse? Partition info: /dev/hda Disk 37.2G /dev/hda1 HPFS/NTFS 35G 18G 18G 50% /windows/C /dev/hdb Disk 74.5G /dev/hdb1 HPFS/NTFS 29G 25G 3.5G 88% /windows/D /dev/hdb2 Extended 33.3G /dev/hdb6 Linux Native 13G 8.6G 4.2G 68% / /dev/hdb7 Linux Native 19G 17G 2.3G 89% /home Ideally I would like to reallocate /dev/hdb1 to /dev/hdb2 then /dev/hdb7 Is this possible to do without loosing my / and /home data and if so which would be the most suitable tool. The Yast2 partition tool will not for example allow me to edit /dev/hdb2.
