[opensuse] Peerguardian functionality wanted

I'd like to know if there's a way to implement Peerguardian (http://phoenixlabs.org/pg2/) type of funtion in Linux/openSUSE? What I want is to have a regularly updated blocklists from (http://www.bluetack.co.uk/config/) and implement these rules (after converting them with Blocklist Converter) in the firewall/iptables. These lists tend to grow big, 5-6 MBs if all IP ranges are merged into one. Therefore I'd like to also know if there's any performance penalty during operation. During start I can understand if it takes longer, but it's the operational performance I'm interested in. As a sidenote, on WinXP the Peerguardian program with the above mentioned list shows as 0-1% in Task Manager, which is negligible. Is there any script/program out there that fills my needs, or do I have to study up on Bash scripting and iptables? /J -- "In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. Hi all Yesterday I was trying to update my Suse 9.3 to openSuse 10.2 installation with a DVD burned image. Just after clicked on "update" (but it happens also when clicking on "installation") I got the following error: "Error occurred while creating the catalog. cd://?devices=/dev/hdc,/dev/hdd Unknown error: unable to copy media directory to /var/tmp/TmpDir.j4jPSa/MEDIA" After 2 dvds burned, I found this: http://www.suseforums.net/index.php?showtopic=27392 but I was anyway unable to get a succesful installation with a 3rd DVD burned at 2X. [opensuse] irqpoll, ATI Xpress 200, SB600 and ethernet...

Hi everyone! Does anybody know what the irqpoll boot option does. The only way to get my sata disk recognized in a ATI Xpress 200 chipset with an SB600 was to pass this boot option to the installer's grub. However, I get my system log constantly flooded with: unexpected IRQ trap at vector a0 irq 160, desc: c0396e00, depth: 1, count: 0, unhandled: 0 >handle_irq(): c0145fea, handle_bad_irq+0x0/0x1f2 >chip(): c0344580, 0xc0344580 >action(): 00000000 IRQDISABLED set IRQPENDING set And, as if this wasn't enough, my ethernet card isn't recognized. Does anyone have any hint about how to get past this. I have a few development machines in our university waiting to be installed because of this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. [opensuse] autoyast ... can the xml file be used with just a simple dvd install?

I've looked over the basics of autoyast ...and it seems as though for a "one off" situation (a single, or only a few, repeated installations) that it is over-kill. However, I see that at the end of an install, you can select to have the autoyast xml file created. Can I just save that file, and then, when starting a new install, somehow reference it so that the install proceeds from the DVD without needing my intervention? I don't see this mentioned anywhere, but it seems like it would be a "no brainer". [opensuse] Keyboard Repeat Rate

How do I increase the keyboard repeat rate? It is currently set at 50.0/s and that is the maximum Yast allows me to go. Can I increase it further? If yes, how? If no, is there a script that I can run on startup which sort of links the mouse to a hotkey or something? For instance, I had this AutoHotkey script in my Windows version which really increased my hotkey repeat rate. It was: F8:: MouseClick, Left Just that and the hotkey just fired up. Would it be possible to identify and authentify with Novell's eDirectory (V8.7.3) and then log-in directly into one's home coming from a Novell NetWare server (V6.5)? hi, I got a problem with YaST Error loading language plugin /usr/lib64/YaST2/plugin/libpy2lang_perl.so: libperl.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory what is strange, I have looked there is a file called libperl.so in /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.6/CORE . |-- libperl.a |-- libperl.so `-- sperl.o 0 directories, 3 files So what gives. [opensuse] Multiple Monitor Support + Enabling Function Keys

Hi, I am running OpenSuse 10.2 on Intel Core Duo mqchine using 2 Nvidia 7600 512 Mb cards. I want to run four monitors on this machine but when I plug them in, Suse detects only two. How can I fix this problem? Also, I want to get the function keys to work (as they don't seem to work at the current moment). Any advice on this? I tried the openSuSE one and the packman one. They didn't work AND i couldn't get rpms working. On one of the suse forums, I was advised to compile it. Yes, I am 100% sure that my media supports 4x. I also checked the media on another computer. It seems fine. Any ideas of what can be of cause? I would like other options. Trust me, my isos don't work when burnt higher than 4x so ya. Maybe there's another burner I can try, I have only used k3b so I don't even know what a good option is. Hey, So I just now compiled k3b 1.0rc5 and I am trying to burn an ISO. It will only give me three burnspeed options. x10, x16, and x24. Now I normally burn isos at x4 and I know for a fact my burner should be able to do that. it did that back when I used ubuntu way back when. Anyone know how I can set my speeds in k3b or does it hurt to burn a CD iso at x10? Thanks all for your help. I am using 10.2 openSuSE by the way. [opensuse] XGL video issue

So I got XGL working with Beryl and Compiz. I am using Beryl by default and my videos in kaffeine and xine, well vids in general. They are very laggy and it slows down my cursor. Well when I was using simply KDE, my vids were fine, under Beryl, slows down. Kaffeine will only operate in opengl move. Also, I have irritating borders around every menu and window. How do I turn it off? Is it possible to get the full XGl/Compiz effect without Beryl or Emerald. By effects I mean the 3D cube and ability to rotate and also the 3D Desk that causes the windows to appear 3D? [opensuse] 10.2 7800gt pci-e video lockup

Hello, I have recently tried to install 10.2 on a machine with a BFG 7800GT pci-e card. When I get the the hardware configuration screen and click the test button for the video test the machine brings up the test screen and the system locks up. The test screen doesn't look right either, it's just a bunch of lines, there is now way you can make out what it is. So I put in an old pci card and installed the OS. Then I went and put the 7800gt back in and it worked, but when I try to change the resolution it will lock up again. Is there some kind of bios setting wrong? [opensuse] Printing from KDE apps fails

openSUSE 10.2, KDE 3.5.5 release 50.1 and Konqueror and Kontact/KMail, cups 1.2.7. Trying to print email messages or web page or a frame of a web page and I get the following error after a one or more succesful prints. A print error occurred. Error message received from system: Unable to start child print process. Check the command syntax: cupsdoprint -P 'deskjet5650' -J 'http://www.opensuse.org/' -H '/var/run/cups/cups.sock:631' -U 'sglasoe' -o ' copies=1 multiple-document-handling=separate-documents-collated-copies orientation-requested=3' I'm thinking an extra space gets inserted for the -o parameter between the single quote and copies=1. Is there a way to use the command line to verify this? Googled for ideas and have logged out/in, gone to init 3 and rcxdm restart. Next will be the old reboot just to satisfy me. Very annoying. [opensuse] Samba 3.0.24 on Suse 10.0

Does anyone know if one can find archives of samba RPMs for SuSE 10.0? I was running samba 3.0.23d with full AD integration and it was running fine. I did an update using apt, and it picked up Samba 3.0.24. However, winbind from 3.0.24 keeps on failing. I see messages to the effect of " libads/dns.c:dns_send_req(292) ads_dns_lookup_srv: Failed to resolve _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs. (Success)" fill up my logs. I know DNS is working fine, since the Windows clients and domain controllers are working fine. Also Samba 3.0.23d on a SuSE 10.2 box is working fine. Does anyone know where I can find Samba 3.0.23d for SuSE 10 or, even better, how to set about resolving the errors I see with Samba 3.0.24?
