[opensuse] Printing from KDE apps fails
openSUSE 10.2, KDE 3.5.5 release 50.1 and Konqueror and Kontact/KMail, cups 1.2.7. Trying to print email messages or web page or a frame of a web page and I get the following error after a one or more succesful prints. A print error occurred. Error message received from system: Unable to start child print process. Check the command syntax: cupsdoprint -P 'deskjet5650' -J 'http://www.opensuse.org/' -H '/var/run/cups/cups.sock:631' -U 'sglasoe' -o ' copies=1 multiple-document-handling=separate-documents-collated-copies orientation-requested=3' I'm thinking an extra space gets inserted for the -o parameter between the single quote and copies=1. Is there a way to use the command line to verify this? Googled for ideas and have logged out/in, gone to init 3 and rcxdm restart. Next will be the old reboot just to satisfy me. Very annoying. It prints some copies then the error reappears. Thanks, Stan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I don't know about KDE but it works for me on my openSUSE 10.2 out-of-the-box system (i.e. no KDE updates) to print a file via /opt/kde3/bin/cupsdoprint with exact your parameters (except that I use my queue name): cupsdoprint -P 'lj1220ps' -J 'http://www.opensuse.org/' \ -H '/var/run/cups/cups.sock:631' -U 'sglasoe' \ -o ' copies=1 \ multiple-document-handling=separate-documents-collated-copies \ orientation-requested=3' \ /usr/share/YaST2/data/printer/testpg.ps but for example cat /usr/share/YaST2/data/printer/testpg.ps | cupsdoprint -P 'lj1220ps' results "This utility doesn't support printing from STDIN" Kind Regards Johannes Meixner -- SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, Maxfeldstrasse 5 Mail: jsmeix@suse.de 90409 Nuernberg, Germany WWW: http://www.suse.de/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thanks Johannes. I'll try this and keep troubleshooting if the problem persists. Haven't tried having it print to a file if it won't go direct to the printer. I can always print a single job after logging in but after that I can't predict how many I'll be able to do before this error occurs. I believe it started after the latest KDE update. What is cupsdoprint complaining about if the syntax works from the command line _with_ the addition of a file on the end? Fixed with latest KDE updates to "3.5.6 release 25.2 openSUSE" and cups 1.2.7-12.1. Stan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
