[opensuse] HowTo Install New 2.6.23.1-900.ccj58-default kernel and SAVE my present one too

Listmates, Jan: How can I install the new 2.6.23.1-900.ccj58-default kernel with Yast and tell Yast to leave my old kernel there, and Don't delete it this time? I know I can do it. [opensuse] About kde4...

Hi, I've just downloaded and installed new kde4 release, but it doesn't work. I know it's still in development, but considering that it's beta4, I think it's stable enough to work properly. If not, what's the use of installing every package if it displays this message error at startup: "Cannot lookup symbol /usr/lib64/libkio.so.5" (or something like this). I've tried to change startkde init script, but I always get the same story. What's the use of making new and nrewer releases, if it cannot be tested and make it work? Is there any solution? [opensuse] yum repos and zypper update

I'm wondering if anyone knows of an obvious reason "zypper update" would say there is nothing to do even when a newer version of a package has been added to a yum repo I have defined. Yes, I did a "zypper refresh" to force an update of the cache. And even more interesting, I can do a "zypper search whatever" and it shows me there is a newer "whatever" in the repo, it just doesn't think it needs to install it when I run an update. In a near identical repo constructed with similar new versions of "whatever"s a "yum update" on a fedora box happily downloads and installs the newer version. I'm sure there is something we don't understand about zypper and repo conventions, I just wish I knew what it was :-). Hi, Does anyone know if there is a solution to opensuse 10.3 on 64bit amd cpu with 64bit firefox and 64bit jre/java jre1.6.0_03. It seems that in the standard opensuse 10.3 64bit install it installs a 64bit version of firefox and java just doesn't seem to work in firefox. I've googled and found many others with similar problems and wondered if there has been a solution to 10.3 yet? Thanks and regards. [opensuse] 64 bit vrs 32 bit advantages speed etc.

I recently bought a 64 bit machine and have 10.3 loaded . It seems very fast. I am trying to appraise if the advantages of having some software not work because of driver issues is worth it. Has anyone run benchmarks on an identical system with 32 bit vrs 64 bit? Do we have a list of software that is known not to work on 64-bit? Any defined group tracking this and championing gettin the remainder fixed. I know this is a generalized question but I am just trying to appraise the gain vrs pain of deciding to stay with 64-bit ? [opensuse] Is it possible to install 10.2 Kernel on SusE 10.3

There is some critical software, Apani VPN, that I need, but will not build on using the SusE 10.3 kernel. Apani software did build using 10.2 kernel. Apani will not have a solution for a while, so I was wondering if I could install the 10.2 kernel so that I can use the Apani software? What problems will I have installing 10.2 software? [opensuse] For Which Repositories Is "Automatically Refresh" Unuseful?

Hi, I was wondering if the main repositories: - Main Repository (OSS) - Main Repository (NON-OSS) are changing now that the final release has been made? If not, I'd turn of "Automatically Refresh" on these repositories to speed start-up of Software Management and other package management-related administrative programs. [opensuse] System shutting down problem

I am using Open Suse 10.3 HP Compaq Presario C555 TU. I have got problem in shutting down the system at times. At the last moment of the shutting down process, the screen becomes coloured and nothing happens after that and the system does not power down automatically. As you can do some things I think the first thing to look at are the eclipse error logs... in 3.2 they are usually in .eclipse/.metadata of the home directory of the invoking user and <workspace>/.metadata/ as .log I cannot say if this is the case for 3.3 which I understand is a major upgrade from 3.2.... I would suggest you bring this up with the eclipse forums with the relevant logs....
