[opensuse] ls command - disable color coding

Is there a way to disable color coding in the 'ls' command permanently? It's giving me such lovely colors across my gnome-terminal but very unreadable with my sight. :-) The only thing I've found so far is that it is driven by the ls_colors environment variable as seen by the 'dircolors' command. But that's where I am stumped. Typing dircolors or dircolors --print-database outputs all the color codes specified for each filetype, but not how to permanently disable it. I have tried 'ls --color=none' and 'ls --color=never' but both apparently are on a per command basis and don't stick when running ls again. Per the 'ls' manpages (which I don't think is true here.) "By default, color is not used to distinguish types of files. That is equivalent to using --color=none. Using the --color option without the optional WHEN argument is equivalent to using --color=always." I recently re-installed from scratch the 10.3 GM dvd with 64-bit. Then I installed the rpm from above. When I run qps I get a "segmentation" fault. I tired downloading the current source and compiling. qmake goes fine, but make blows up big time. This is not critical, but has anyone gotten qps to run on 64-bit 10.3? [opensuse] Does amarok download music on its own?

I was looking recently at my laptop music collection under amarok, mostly .ogg files I have ripped and encoded from my own CDs, and discovered MP3 tracks for two complete albums that I don't own. The file dates are within the last month. I don't often visit music sites and don't remember downloading anything in that time period. My question is this: Does amarok have any feature where it will download music files into a user's collection without his knowledge? [opensuse] tuxtype segmentation fault 10.3

Hi At school we use tuxtype, the typing tutor for kids (and adults). the version in 10.3 from both the opensuse repo and the education:desktop repos seg fault after choosing Fish cascade or Comet zap, the best bits of the show. I've reproduced the seg fault on many boxes running 32 bit 10.3 using ATI, i810 and matrox agp graphics so I don't think it's xorg. I tried to compile it from source too but ./configure gives me an error when searching for the SDL_image library even though I have it installed so I can't get any further down that path. [opensuse] s2ram on 10.3

Does anyone know if s2ram that comes with openSUSE 10.3 will work with an APM based machine? I'm not sure what this means, but when running s2ram, I get the following: /usr/sbin/s2ram -f -a 1 Switching from vt7 to vt1 s2ram_do: Operation not permitted switching back to vt7 Does anyone know what this means? This Dell Dimension 4100 is not ACPI capable, but I don't know if that has anything to do with the s2ram problem. [opensuse] choosing nv or nvidia driver

Hello list users: In SUSE 9.x serie there was an option in YAST2 for choosing video adapter driver. Eg. one could choose to use nv or nvidia driver with his nvidia card. In openSUSE 10.2, 10.3 I can't find this option. How can I select which driver to use without hacking xorg.conf file or deinstalling/reinstalling the proprietary nvidia driver? [opensuse] 10.3 not usable after local filesystem becomes read-only

Hello everyone. After switching to 10.3 on my officebox (clean reinstall), I ran into serious problem, it happened to me 3 times already: After some time in KDE session, kio slave error pops up after I tried to access some file on local filesystem (everywhere, in krusader, konqueror, amarok etc) with message 'read only file system'. After logout from KDE I can't login in console neighter as user or root, with message 'no service'. After ctrl + alt +del during shut down sequence every service fails with same problem, read only filesystem. Umounting of discs fails also, they are all repaired during boot. [opensuse] postfix does not listen on external interface

Hi, I'm new to opensuse but veteran of RedHat, Mandriva and Ubuntu. Fresh install of openSuSE 10.3. Postfix listens on localhost but does not listen on eth0. More precisely, when I run "telnet <IP> 25" from an outside PC, I get "Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused". I need Postfix to listen on eth0. No firewall is installed. "iptables -L INPUT" and "iptables -L OUTPUT" show "POLICY ACCEPT" and no rules are specified. /etc/postfix/main.cf has inet_interfaces commented out. [opensuse] Lexmark e220 printer

When I installed Opensuse 10.3 I had my Lexmark E220 hooked up. The install recognized the printer and I was able to print out a test page. Now when I try to print anything it just sits in the print queue and does nothing. When I go into Yast and try to print a test page nothing happens. When I connect to my office using Citrix, the Citrix client recognized the E220 as my local printer, but nothing will print ( since I can't print locally ). Where would I go to look for error messages for the printer? Under 10.2 I had to fool the computer into thinking I had a HP4. It was good for printing text, but not graphics. Under 10.3 I can't print anything. Any help or pointers in the right direction would be appreciated. I have a new install of 10.3 and cannot seem to boot the system without the dvd in the drive. If I have the dvd in the drive, it defaults to boot to hard disk, it will pass to the grub menu and the system boots fine. If I take the disk out they system tells me to insert a bootable disk. I have set grub to install to the MBR, I have reinstalled via yast and with the following commands: orion:~ # grub-install /dev/sda GNU GRUB version 0.97 (640K lower / 3072K upper memory) [ Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB lists possible command completions.
