[opensuse] network interface problem

This morning I took down the server at the office for maintenance, when I brought it back up it had not networking working. I have two nics in the machine, one onboard invidia based ( asus motherboard), and one Intel 1000 nic. What I finally found was if I went into bios an disable the onboard nic then I had working network but the minute you re enable the onboard nic all networking stops working. I'm at the lost on what to do. I need two network cards for this machine. I have both of the PCI slots filled with the Intel nic an a raid card. I do have one free pcie slot. So I need a good pcie network card if anyone has a suggestion on what to buy that will work with SuSe 10.2 / 10.3. Also wondering if anyone on list using the asus m2n-e sli motherboard has had any problems with the onboard nic. [opensuse] Hint for running pvmove (LVM)

Hi there, Just came accross the problem that pvmove reports "mirror: Required device-mapper target(s) not detected in your kernel". Solution: modprobe dm-mirror It worked without modprobe before I updated to OpenSuSE 10.3 from 10.2. Hope this helps some people out there. [opensuse] x64 nvidia 7600GT does not work with ubuntu x64 7.10 as well 10.3 x64

I never did manage to get my nvidia 7600GT working with 10.3 x64. I have just tried with the new kubuntu x64 (7.10). It does not work with that either - the nv driver works though in 64bit. So there is something about my hardware setup in 64bit that the nvidia drivers do not like. My two year old machine uses a motherboard GPU ATI 9100 ixp - that does not work either with 10.3 (no longer supported in the current ATI driver.) My old Matrox 550 never worked either. [opensuse] "Running SuSEconfig.texlive" very slow

Hi all On my 10.3, after installing a software using Yast2, there is a stage where Yast starts different module (ok, maybe not the right word) of SuSEconfig. But, the texlive module takes almost 10 minutes. Did you have such behavior ? Is is possible to make it faster ? After installing 8.42.3, I found that rpm -e of either the 8.40 or 8.41 driver failed to remove and replace the /usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2* library with the new /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.2* from 8.42. This was causing a conflict that borked fglrx. After fixing this by moving /usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2 to /usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2.old and then # ln -s /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.2 /usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2 "J" (CyberOrg) was most helpful in pointing out that there may be other libGL conflicts. However, after make the above change, fgl_glxgears and fglrxinfo work as they are supposed to. Also, after looking for additional conflicts, I think I'm OK. I haven't a clue what is causing this problem. As we spoke, the java error is still present: [root rankin-p35a/home/david] # /usr/bin/amdcccle amdcccle: xcb_xlib.c:52: xcb_xlib_unlock: Assertion `c->xlib.lock' failed. Aborted "export LIBXCB_ALLOW_SLOPPY_LOCK=true", eliminates the error, but the control center will not start and requires a ctrl+c to kill the process. Also, "aticonfig" will NOT run. I have posted my xorg.conf. If anyone can take a look and see if there is anything wrong, I would appreciate it. I have not loaded xorg 7.3 yet and I am still trying to get compiz working. "kwin" works like a dream, good 3D, frame rates, etc. My goal is NOT to have to reload 10.3! That shouldn't be necessary, and I don't want to kill 5 hours installing, patching and re-tweaking, even with the benefit of Yast autoinstall and simply saving and remounting /home. So I am back to my plea for HELP! Y'all have been great to help me get this far, and I'm confident I can make this work. [opensuse] Card Reader Recommendation

Hi, I'm looking for a memoery card reader (capable of reading xD) with IDE interface, the idea is that it takes the place that usually uses a floppy drive and that works with linux. I don't have currently free usb ports. Anybody seen this weird specimen? [opensuse] help - network printer install

I am currently on my annual visit to a department with a large OCE 3145 printer. Years ago (maybe SUSE 9.3) I could connect to it and print just fine. Then, for the past couple of years I cannot connect to it from within SUSE 10.0, but could print from Windows running in a vmware machine running under SUSE 10.0. Now, I can do neither. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to print to this printer? There is a computer hanging off the back of it, and it is connected to the network. I know its IP address, and it shows up in scans for devices using port 515. I can actually set it up by selecting that device and specifying the OCE driver, but no test page prints. When I try printing a test page as user, the printer instantly switches to offline. My old windows VM suggests it was printing to it as an LPD device, but this no longer works. A Debian machine on my desk prints to it via the lpr command and from Mozilla (as a quick test) with the command: lpr ${MOZ_PRINTER_NAME:+'-P'}${MOZ_PRINTER_NAME} At home, I print to a networked Optra R just fine. Dear my friends... I use opensuse10.2. I installed 'WWW::Search::Google' with cpan. Service description 'file:' can't be loaded: 404 File `' does not exist === I found this threath as my googling result: http://johnbokma.com/mexit/2005/12/21/net-google-bug.html I did the as it told me but it did not make any change. === Net::Google fix: copy the wsdl file The fix is an easy one. Somehow the build process doesn't copy the GoogleSearch.wsdl and the directory Services that contains this file to the blib directory. So copying manually the Services directory from: Net-Google-1.0/lib/Net/Google to the following directory: Net-Google-1.0/blib/lib/Net/Google fixed the problem for me. Entering nmake tests reported no more problems, and nmake install made the programs I have that require Net-Google work again. === Please tell me if somebody has ever found the same problem. [opensuse] How to add entries to the KDE main menu?

Hi there, I just installed 10.3 on a box that had 10.2 running before. For several reasons I installed on a new disk (and did not do an update). I created myself as a user, and then had softlinked the home directory to the old home. My old evnvironment seems to work nicely. Now my question: In the old (now actual) settings I did not have some of the settings in the main KDE menu (the one when you click on the lizard) that are part of a "new" users. Eg. do not have the suspend to disk in the leave menu. How and where can I add that? thanks a lot for your help robert
