[opensuse] x64 nvidia 7600GT does not work with ubuntu x64 7.10 as well 10.3 x64
I never did manage to get my nvidia 7600GT working with 10.3 x64. I have just tried with the new kubuntu x64 (7.10). It does not work with that either - the nv driver works though in 64bit. So there is something about my hardware setup in 64bit that the nvidia drivers do not like. My two year old machine uses a motherboard GPU ATI 9100 ixp - that does not work either with 10.3 (no longer supported in the current ATI driver.) My old Matrox 550 never worked either. I feel cursed never to have 3d in Linux... Pieter Budapest. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Pieter Budapest. I had a 7600GT working with Gigabyte M57sli board with 64-bit Suse 10.2. Have not tried it with the Suse 10.3 though as it was no faster than my 7300 GT. This was using nvidia driver 1.100.19 and Compiz-Fusion.

Thanks for the responses... Yes, I have tried everything. No REALLY I have tried everything. 10.3 i386 works no problem on the same hardware - identical install. I was just highlighting that it is not just a Suse 10.3 problem (something I have reported earlier.) Then please file a bug report as described on http://bugs.opensuse.org You will want the "X11 3rd Party Drivers" component. Thanks. Well just to complete the picture I have just installed Kubuntu 7.10 i386 (kubuntu desktop is a very quick install) and the nvidia driver works perfectly. glxgears is running at 10000 fps. So the AMD - 7600GT 64bit nvidia driver on both Kubuntu 7.10 x64 and Suse 10.3 x64 does not work. On the 32 bit variants it does. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
"I have at home a PC with opensuse 10.3 x86_64 and an nvidia 7600GT (AGP). It works greatly. I just used the new one-click-install stuff to install the proprietary nvidia driver. Previously, i downloaded the rpm from the nvidia web site and installed it without issue. How did you get the driver ? Do you have the kernel source installed ?" Yes.Yes. Yes... really I tried everything (believe me)... however my card is a PCIE card... I know people have success with the same basic configuration, but something about my setup is not liked by the x64 nvidia driver. Thanks. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Sorry haz haz for the private mail, the lack of signature or whatever fault I may have done when replying to your thread. I wasn't using my regular mailer (see muy thread HELP !! first sata...) So to summarize, I don't understand what is going one, my guess is the 7600GT AGP version and PCIe version are not supported the same way. Hi Matthias (yes gmail is causing me problems replying to this list as well) I am now installing fedora 8 (Test 3) just to see if that will work. It was about time I got "out and about" in the linux world. My card is a Galaxy branded card, which is not a very well known brand I think. Maybe being a AMD Crossfire motherboard I should have bought an ATI card. Thanks, Pieter -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

With Fedora 8 (test3) x64 the nvidia driver does not work. The nv driver works fine. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
