[opensuse] XGL video issue

So I got XGL working with Beryl and Compiz. I am using Beryl by default and my videos in kaffeine and xine, well vids in general. They are very laggy and it slows down my cursor. Well when I was using simply KDE, my vids were fine, under Beryl, slows down. Kaffeine will only operate in opengl move. Also, I have irritating borders around every menu and window. How do I turn it off? Is it possible to get the full XGl/Compiz effect without Beryl or Emerald. By effects I mean the 3D cube and ability to rotate and also the 3D Desk that causes the windows to appear 3D? [opensuse] 10.2 7800gt pci-e video lockup

Hello, I have recently tried to install 10.2 on a machine with a BFG 7800GT pci-e card. When I get the the hardware configuration screen and click the test button for the video test the machine brings up the test screen and the system locks up. The test screen doesn't look right either, it's just a bunch of lines, there is now way you can make out what it is. So I put in an old pci card and installed the OS. Then I went and put the 7800gt back in and it worked, but when I try to change the resolution it will lock up again. Is there some kind of bios setting wrong? [opensuse] Printing from KDE apps fails

openSUSE 10.2, KDE 3.5.5 release 50.1 and Konqueror and Kontact/KMail, cups 1.2.7. Trying to print email messages or web page or a frame of a web page and I get the following error after a one or more succesful prints. A print error occurred. Error message received from system: Unable to start child print process. Check the command syntax: cupsdoprint -P 'deskjet5650' -J 'http://www.opensuse.org/' -H '/var/run/cups/cups.sock:631' -U 'sglasoe' -o ' copies=1 multiple-document-handling=separate-documents-collated-copies orientation-requested=3' I'm thinking an extra space gets inserted for the -o parameter between the single quote and copies=1. Is there a way to use the command line to verify this? Googled for ideas and have logged out/in, gone to init 3 and rcxdm restart. Next will be the old reboot just to satisfy me. Very annoying. [opensuse] Still trying to get DVD to work

Is there anyone on the list who is running Suse 10.2 whose DVD drive automatically mounts media when inserted? If so, I would like to engage in a chat session to do a "stare and compare" to figure out how my setup differs, because my puter absolutely, positively refuses to automatically mount cd or dvd media. "lshal -m" will detect it's presence, Yast knows when the distro DVD is loaded, but that's it. I have fought with this problem since I installed 10.2 on 7Jan07 and it is to the point that if I cannot resolve the issue, I am kissing Suse goodbye, as the system is almost worthless to me if I cannot use the cd/dvd drive. [opensuse] remote access BUG in 10.2 can others confirm, and what wuold be fix?

its happen now twice (my two and only installs of opensuse 10.2 on two separate machines). the remote management (Xvnc), when turned on, then you access from the client, you get the grey weave X screen but no login box or anything, just X, no window manager or standard GDM start up. I google'd and the standard fix is put a win. mgr. in the .Xvnc or .vnc file, but I don't think that is the fix, as the graphical greeter of a Suse install is before you have decided on what user would log in, and there is no such file on /root ...... and this certainly seems to be a bug as it never happened to me on many pasted versions of SLED openSuse, etc. help!!!! .... -tl -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe(a)opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help(a)opensuse.org

Any suggestions for how to get video working on sites that return: The CNN.com video experience is optimized for Windows Media Player 9 or above. We are unable to determine the version of Windows Media Player installed. If you choose to not upgrade your player to Windows Media Player 9 or above your overall experience may be affected. You may continue to veiw the Video without a player upgrade, although you may be prompted to install a Microsoft Windows codec in order to do so. Mplayer did come up but went into a continuous loop and never played the video from this site. Does anyone have this working? http://www.cnn.com/video/ Click on any of the videos on the right hand side will probably reproduce the issue I am talking about. [opensuse] Suse 10.2 shared printer + Mac OSX

Ihave a laserjet 2300 connected to my desktop lpt0 port. I can print with no problem from the desktop. Went to Yast, Hardware, Printers, Other and setup to allow any machine on 192.168.1.* to access the printer and open port in firewall. Done the ipp permissions the same. Setup the Mac for ipp printer and select laserjet 2300 and the print queue name the same as on the desktop. Still am not able to print from the Mac. If I look at the print queue, it always says stopped. I can ping the desktop from the the Mac, so there is a connection. I can also start the printing of the file in the queue, but to still comes back stopped. Would appreciate any of you Mac enthusiasts to let me know how you got it to work if of course you did, or even if you did not get it to work. My daily backup script on a server mails the output to me (it's a cron job run by root). Recently, instead of sending me a plain text email message, it's started sending me an empty email with an attachment called 'attachment.bin'. This is just a plain text file with the same old content. Does anybody know how to make it send me plain text messages again? The only notable difference I can see in the messages is this header: < Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii --- > Content-Type: application/octet-stream; charset=us-ascii I certainly haven't deliberately changed any settings, but is there a setting somewhere that controls this header? Does it depend on the settings on intermediate boxes that the mail passes through? The server is running Suse 9.2. This has to be the most ASSININE thing I have ever had to deal with! I have wasted darn near the whole weekend trying to get one stupid a$$ed bootloader to install and nothing on this earth should be this darn difficult! Even using the numbering system that was confimed/agreed to, it still gives me the error 23 statement. The main reason I liked SuSe is because it does mount (automatically) my Windows partition, thus I have access to different files. On Mandriva, although it installs in over half the time, and it's actually WAY faster than 10.2, and the bootloader ACTUALLY works, it's a pain to get the partitions to mount, I have to do a hard shutdown because there's no "restart" or "shutdown" command when you log off, which tales you to the login screen, which doesn't have a way to shutdown or reboot the computer. Ubuntu is a whole story by itself! Maybe in a few years when I'm 70 will Linux FINALLY be ready for prime time! Just think, I haven't even gotten to the HARD parts yet! Anyway, I really do appreciate all the help I have gotten on this.
