On openSUSE 10.2, Dell D820 Anyone using Visio Standard 2003 (because I have to for work) in CrossOver. It works but the screen refresh is really really slow? Other CrossOver apps are fine. [opensuse] my internet hub prefers windoze to linux!

I have a cable modem, connected to a 4 port hub for my home network. The two most active ports are the ones connected to my linux box and my son's hub. He usually runs just his xp box, maybe another machine. Occasionally he hooks up 4-5 machines and plays games over the net with his buddies, all hooked up to his hub. When he does that, my linux box essentially loses all contact with the net. Kmail, konqueror, firefox, opera etc, all freeze up in my linux box, both under suse10.1 and 10.2. The maddening thing is that if i fire up vmware and start a windoze virtual machine inside my linux, it has *no* problem accessing the net!!!! There must be an explanation for this, but I know too little to come up with it. [opensuse] Applications question

We have a Suse 10.1 file server at work using Samba. ( it was formally Redhad, but Suse is much easier to administer). It is present having Subversion installed on it and will have a postgress database for a partws database on it (prently using postgres locally for the database). One new requirement we need to fullfill is a defect entry program where we can enter hardware and/or software defects for record so they do not get lost and can be corrected. I have looked at MrProject before about two yearss ago, but it is very difficult to use and was not ready for prime time. I was thing of maybe using Drupal for something like this. Does anyone have any experience or wise advise on such a system using Apache server and webbrowser clients? Any input would be much appreciated. Art BTW this corporate network is an all windows system, but we have a Linux server so we can get around the IT meddling etc. and have some control over what we want to do. For what it is doing now, it works perfectly and one hell of a lot faster than the windows servers in Texas, Singapore, and Europe. It's really annoying when what worked with 10.1 does not work with 10.2! I have postfix working and mail is arriving at my server. I installed the imap package and POP3 is running on port 110 per nmap. I created a certificate as I have in the past and as is currently documented in the mail HOW-TO @ opensuse.org. Attempting to configure Kmail: Set up a POP3 account. On the Extras page "Check what the server supports" reports "Use TLS" and Authentication: "Clear Text". Attempting to connect gives error: "Could not connect to host Your POP3 server does not support TLS. Disable TLS if you want to connect without encription" Disabling TLS on the Extras tab and reconnecting results in: "Coult not login to myserver. The server said: 'Unknown AUTHORIZATION state command'". I've been unsuccessful finding any config files for POP3 that would let me enable TLS. DNS is working properly and I can sign on to my server from the client as follows: "ssh mylogin(a)mail.myserver". The first time I do that, it fetches the certificate and subsequently the logons are clean. Can anybody advise me how to configure Kmail to logon to the server? Both are running 10.2 (boxed) with all updates. Very much appreciate the key to success. My wife is getting antsy to get her mail! [opensuse] Please help with Suse 10.2 install

I am a pretty new Linux administrator, and after repeated tries have not been able to install Suse 10.2 on my fairly old (~4-5 years old) IBM eServer xSeries 200 (which seems to be on the supported list, but I'm not sure). When I install Windows, any version, there's no problem -- mouse, keyboard, CD, connection to Internet -- everything works fine. I once successfully installed Caldera Linux and again all the peripherals seemed to work fine. But when I boot to the Suse Install CD 1, the menu shows up but the keyboard and mouse don't work. SO, I tried booting to the non-graphical install on the same CD. And I've tried every option -- linux, noacpi, nolapic, failsafe, memtest. Each time, it displays "Loading linux .." Just those two dots and then -- nothing happens. I've looked but have not found a lot of information on troubleshooting a Suse installation, aside from the suggestion to try the non-graphical installation. Is there some way to install Suse Linux from Windows? Or, other suggestions? I'm not even sure how to describe this, but I'll try. Okay: I have a small NAS device attached to my home LAN which I've been using to keep a large (~300GB) of data files on, but which is near its storage limit. So I've been trying to set up LVM (for the first time) on my 10.0 system, to create a larger archive to copy the data files to. The LVM creation process went well, as far as I can tell, and I ordered an rsync job to duplicate the original archive to the new, expanded one. But after about 36GB of copying, something incredibly weird happened: my original archive vanished from the mount list, and the rsync job stopped with a string of "no such file/directory" errors. I mean, it just *vanished* -- stopped showing up at all when I did a df. Konq started reporting "this directory/file no longer appears to be present" when I tried to navigate to it. And this is on a machine that *no one* else has access to, so I can 99% guarantee there was no human intervention. Even stranger: I couldn't remount the NAS drive for some reason, although using its HTTP access I was able to confirm that it was fine. Eventually, I just gave up and rebooted. It shows up in df as mounted, and shows me the NAS device's format and current space used/avail. But any attempt to ls /archives shows it as not existing. So I umounted the NAS device, and tried again. And tried re-creating it with mkdir. And the results, you've seen above. I am *stumped.* This string of behaviors makes *no* sense at all. [opensuse] running mkinitrd on a dead system

Hello SUSE users, I encrypted my laptop's hard disc using instructions from http://en.opensuse.org/ Encrypted_Root_File_System_with_SUSE_HOWTO. (To be short, I now have LUKS- encrypted filesystems, and also a custom initrd image, which asks me for password before every boot. I created the initrd image using a pached mkinitrd script.) In my infinite stupidity, I decided that I need another kernel. I downloaded kenel's rpm version, and it promptly overwrited my custom initrd image. Now, when I boot my laptop, I am greeted with a message that my encrypted (cryptsetup-LUKS) filesystem is unknown, and can't be mounted. I tried to boot from CD using Knoppix, and execute mkinitrd from it, but it failed as it can't find /etc/sysconfig/kernel (It's obvious that Knoppix does not have this folder). I can mount my encrypted filesystems from Knoppix, so the question now is which command line parameters should I give mkinitrd so that it correctly creates initrd - finds my kernel and copies it to my boot (unencrypted) partition I would really appreciate any ideas or suggestions!
