rug and SUSE updater issue with xmms

A couple of hours ago rug turned orange and so I clicked on it as usual. However, twice now over an hour or two internval the following pops up. I could do as they say below but thought I would first ask if anyone else is seeing this/ Dependency Resolution Failed Unresolved dependencies: Installing patch:xmms-plugins-2101-0.noarch[20060911-065911] Installing patch:xmms-plugins-2101-0.noarch[20060827-114312] atom:xmms-plugins-1.2.10-44.5.i586[20060911-065911] provides xmms-plugins == 1.2.10-44.5, but it is uninstallable. Try installing it on its own for more details. There are no installable providers of xmms-plugins == 1.2.10-44.5 for patch:xmms-plugins-2101-0.noarch[20060827-114312] atom:xmms-plugins-1.2.10-44.5.i586[20060911-065911] provides xmms-plugins == 1.2.10-44.5, but it is uninstallable. installing onto an nfsroot system

Hey, all -- I'm driving myself around a bend trying to get SUSE 10.1 to install on a system with an NFS root. Does anyone have experience trying to do this, who might have some tips/tricks/howtos/etc to share? Right now, all I'm trying to do is boot off of the DVD, and install to an nfsroot system...shouldn't be anything fancy, I don't think, and yet... Thanks! - Ian

[opensuse] smart outsmarted?

I've just installed 10.1 on a new machine. As per usual, I've installed smart first up and updated. I think I've narrowed it down to a problem in the suse updates channel file: ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/update/10.1/repodata/filelists.xml.gz line 479343 of which reads: <file>/usr/share/gforce/G-Force ColorMaps/Punkin'</file> Could it be the single quote that is outwitting smart? Is anyone else experiencing similar problems? Has anyone got the new packman 10.1 update working on amd 64? It really is miserable using Firefox without it. The 32 bit version just flies in comparison. Steve.

Hi. I'm upgrading my SuSE 10.0. Then I receive this: Cannot access installation media Packman (SuSE LINUX 10.0) CD 1. Check that the server is accessible. http://packman.iu-bremen.de/suse/10.0 The source at the specified URL now provides a different media ID. If the URL is correct, this indicates that the source content has changed. To continue using this source, start Change Source of Installation from the YaST control center and refresh the installation source. The URL is ok, but how can Packman not be found ? Erik Jakobsen

Why do some in the Linux community treat ndiswrapper with such contempt? It seems to me that if something works, especially as well as ndiswrapper, what damned difference does it make if the device drivers were written for use in Windows? I rather think that the concept should be expanded to include the universe of devices that are not currently useable with Linux due to unavailable drivers. Fred

Hi, I have just upgraded ffmpeg to 0.4.9-7.pm.svn20060918 (built by Packman), and these options seem to be cannot recognized by ffmpeg h264 encoder: -max_qdiff 4 -i_quant_factor 0.71428572 -b_quant_factor 0.76923078 -rc_max_rate 0 -rc_buffer_size 0 Anyone have any idea what happened?

Playing mp3 files

Aparently I need some kind of plugin in order to play mp3 files with any of the standard players: noatun, Amarok, or XMMS. I did a google search and discovered a package, mpg123, that offers a standalone player. One of the posts mentions a library file, libmpg123.so, that supposedly can be gotten by compiling the mpg123 sources. I did get the standalone program but could not find the library file. I've also tried to find messages in this group on the subject with google but haven't gotten anywhere useful with that. How have people been getting through the mp3 thicket? Paul

KMail read messages

A default install of (for example) SuSE 9.1 -- just a couple of years back -- used a version of ext2/3 as its default FS, and that was susceptible to this condition. I'm assuming that reiser isn't vulnerable, and that the newer ext2/ext3 versions in later releases aren't, but haven't tried to find out :-)
