I am resending this mail. I sent it yesterday mornig but it still has not appeared on the list. Hello suse users: I am running suse 10.0 with kde 3.5.1 I have the official suse version of openoffice installed. I would like to install beside this the hungarian version from fsf. With version 1.x I could do it easily since the original openoffice version was not in rpm format. Now I don't know how I can install both these two openoffice versions since both are distributed in rpm form. What is the solution? YAST2/YOU Control

Two questions really: a. where can I get more details in the setting up the control on YAST2 - YOU in particular? Both the man page on yast2 and the document refered in /usr/share/doc/packages/yast2 do not give more details in controller how the online update is handled. b. On a system that I have previously configured to have automated updates from yast2, I would like to disable one product from being updated. I am not convinced the way I did it have actually taken into effect. Basically from Yast2, on-line update, manually selected patches, next, searrch (as the one in question does not show up in the YOU Patches), found a grey-out product, select it, then from You Patch tab- All in this list - Protected - Do not modify. (Here I noticed the icon has not been changed.) Thanks. Peter

Problem upgrade, downloaded - installed but nothing changes

Dear All, I have problem during upgrade KDE. I have packman and supplementary update KDE (from http://suse.cbn.net.id/i386/supplementary/KDE/update_for_10.0/yast-source/ ). Then I do 'Select zzz, upgrade when newer version available'. It's downloading about 250 Mb.. Then after 'Finish' icon showed up, I clik it.. But when I do 'rpm -qa | grep kdelibs', it still show kdelibs3-3.5.1-15 kdelibs3-arts-3.5.1-15 kdelibs3-doc-3.5.1-15 I really sure that KDElibs3-3.5.2 was downloaded and installed (as well with other KDE's). But still this computer using KDE3-3.5.1. What happen with my downloaded files ? Why they're not being installed ? Where's my downloaded files ? Not only Xorg, but...

Hey all, As we have been discussing xorg being broken for some of us recently, I've run into another little problem. In an effort to try to track down my problems, which I think may relate to KDE 3.5.2, I decided to boot into another interface. It seems that isn't possible at the moment! No matter which GUI I try to boot into, it always goes into KDE. KDE has taken over my machine!! I can't seem to change which interface I use anymore. Have any others tried this out? Where are the old 3.5.1 files located, as it sounds like it may be time to go back, to test at least. regards, Lee

Logrotate problems

I need to rotate the normal logs in var as well as logs in /var/log/syslogs/ , however, logrotate doesnt seem to be working on the /var/log/syslogs directory. Siig / initio inic1620 sata controller driver?

I've purchased a pair of SATA (SATA 3Gb/s, actually) hard drives, with plans to build a SUSE 10 server around them. Last week I bought a Siig SATA II-150 PCI controller card to use with them. I clearly recall verifying Linux-compatibility before buying the card, but that now seems to be a complete hallucination. As of last night, I find no reference anywhere online that indicates I can use this controller card with Linux. I can find no linux driver for the card. I've emailed Siig, as well as Initio (the chipset manufacturer), and neither has plans for a linux driver. At this point I'm assuming that's $40 down the drain, but thought I'd see if anybody here could offer any possibility for this card I haven't considered. A) Maybe I've missed an online resource somewhere, and there is in fact a driver that will work with this card? While Suse is my first choice, I'm not opposed to using a different distro if necessary. B) I have absolutely no idea how easy or difficult it is to write a device driver, especially if the hardware/API isn't publically documented. Is there a particular group of coders that take up 'wish-list' requests like this? (I assume not.) If I'm somewhat bright, and good at figuring out logic puzzles, but have practically no programming experience, is it ridiculous to consider the possibility of writing a device driver myself? I assume so; I have no idea where to even begin with such a thing. Thanks, Steve

Stopping spam to postmaster@ account?

Guys, How are you handling all of the spam that is being sent to postmaster@ addresses. In order to be RFC compliant, you are supposed to have postmaster active, but since the spammers have now made this a favorite address, how do you handle it? I'm considering blocking it temporarily to generate rejects to see if that helps. Any other thoughts? -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E. Another dialin server question

Since SuSE 10 cannot properly suspend to disk on a T22 (this would be a lot easier if it did!), I have to go to windows on the dialin machine - does anyone know the setup for pppd to answer/connect & authenticate from an XP caller? s video on tv

Hi, I was wondering if someone might help me figure out the best way to view the movies and videos I have on my suse 10 box. I use an nvidia gforce mx4000 card with svideo output now. I have no problem getting a decent picture on the tv doing it by configuring the nvidia options in sax, but have too much of a problem with twinview trying to get a picture on my monitor, and tv at the same time. Believe me, I have googled to death, and have tried every possible configuration, but cant find anything that works to my satisfaction. This is what I WANTED to do. Im moving the tower to the living room, with no monitor, no keyboard, but connected wireless to the home network. I wanted to be able to use desktop sharing probably? but open to suggestions, to start a movie on the box, and watch it in the living room. When I try to do this though it doesnt work, I want to access the active login, instead of just logging in from my box, and having the output on my screen in a window.. have the output go to the TV, I dont want the output to go to the box I am on, but that doesnt work either, says error opening/initializing the selected video out (-vo) device. Im probably going about this in all the wrong way, Anyway, if you can understand my rambling on, or if you have a better suggestion, Im open to it.
