Problem with procmail

Nvidia drivers cause blank screen loading X

hi all ~ I have an HP Pavillion dv6105us laptop, AMD Turion64, with a GeForce Go 6150, dual booting with Media Center and SuSE 10.1. Tired of no GL or 3D support in the dummy suse drivers, I have tried three different methods to install the real drivers, and they all caused the same problem. I have tried: YAST, 'tiny-nvidia-installer', and a direct rpm run, following the howto that the nvidia site points to, with the same result. I made sure I was in runlevel 3. Each time I installed the drivers, the install seemed to go without a hitch, no errors or crfashes, but after rebooting, X tries to start, and all I get is a blank screen. Crashing X shows an error about no screens being available. I don't know enough to directly configure the X server, and sax won't load. I'm going to image the disk before trying it again, since I have had to reinstall each time (the newbie curse). Any help would be appreciated. [opensuse] Goodbye to suse

I'd like to thank all of you who have answered posts of mine to this mailing list (before it renamed). For the record i was waiting 10.2 and then bang Novell did a sco like licensing deal with the evil borg persons. Linux does not mean 'i support microsoft with money' So I'm moving to new distro. Whether suse/novell consider us a hobby user is not important but supporting microsoft is not the deal i signed on with Suse before Novell bought it. While i may not be supporting the ms deal if say i bought disks for 10, it's the thought that my loyalty is misplaced now. I can do better and mod perl 2 excites me. [opensuse] configure fonts in KMail

I thought I could configure font sizes from the configure menu in KMail, but everything is grayed out. Seems like I did this before, but have forgotten how. Help! [opensuse] KDE4 rpms, what am I getting myself into?

I'm installing the KDE4 bits from http://software.opensuse.org/download/KDE:/KDE4/SUSE_Linux_10.0/ Is it going to nicely mind its own business and not try to share my ~/.kde and similar resources? What about the Qt bits? Any adverse consequences there? USB still broken in SuSE's 2.6.18 kernel

I have been trying to get a fairly simple memory card reader working with SuSE 10.1. I tested two different hardware configurations, both running the 2.6.16.21-0.25 based kernels, with no luck. Then I tried with the latest Knoppix 5.0 distribution, using a 2.6.17 based kernel, and got no errors! Thinking that the problem was fixed in a later kernel I downloaded all the 2.6.18.1-6 bits and pieces from the Factory but still it doesn't work. Arghh! This is the last thing stopping me chucking Windows off my parents PC. Actually it is already chucked and I need to get this back up and running pretty soon and I really, really want to keep SuSE as that is what I use on all my machines.

When SuSE got bought by Novell, there were far to many Messaging services around (netmail, groupwise, slox), so slox had to go away. Hula is, let's say, I child under the projects and when I looked at it, was not very evolved. I don't know how much changed in this time. But when comparing Hula and OpenXchange with Zimbra [1] for example, you probably see why they disappear and don't get that much attention anymore. [opensuse] Intel P965 MB and 10.2 beta 2

Hello Note sure if this belongs here or in opensuse-factory. Let me know. I have been tested opensure 10.2 beta 1 and 2 against a new Intel P965 based system and having some interesting issues. Test Environment: Intel DP965LT motherboard Intel Core 2 Duo 6600 2.4 Ghz processor 4 GB main memory 2 x 320 GB sata disks Originally equipped with an LG DVD writer, now equipped with a Plextor PX 760SA DVD writer (sata interface). 1. 10.2 beta 1 and 2 would not install with the PATA LD DVD installed. In researching the problem and finally firmware checking the hardware, this is the Marvell PATA 6101 chipset problem. This is already identified by the kernel developers with a fix. System booted ok and you are able to choose to install but once suse starts the linux installer and look for the DVD drive it fails and falls out to linuxrc prompting you to load a CD. If you check the HD and CDROMS installed only the harddisks are visible. This seems to a very common issue with P965 based motherboards. I have tried verious ideas found on the net but none of these have worked on the Intel MB. Question: is this kernel fix likely to make it into the release version of 10.2? 2. Switched to using the Plextor SATA DVD writer. Downloaded the 10.2 beta 2 dvd iso and burnt a dvd and can now start the installer ok. I can partion a disk ok and start the package installation. During the package installation I get a various number of package installation failures, giving me the choice of abort, retry or ignore. Errors can vary: error unpacking archive cpio: bad magic or MD5 sum mismatch or bad file descriptor If I use the burnt DVD I get a large number of these errors. If use the iso image and install via nfs I get a lot fewer but still get them. The failures do not necessarily occur on the same packages each time. If I push the install though by ignoring the errors I wind with a system that can sort of boot but does not get the YAST configuration screens for the network and display and user etc. Kernel does seem to work. At this stage I am not sure what is causing the package install errors as even 10.1 Novell DVD (boxed set) will not install without errors. First thing is get the install to work then see if the rest of YAST will run correctly. Any ideas appreciated. Ubuntu 6.10 LiveCD will boot and run and can be installed and run from the disks using the plextor sata dvd.
