double characters

I find that I frequently get double (or triple) characters when typing into the mailing list, or perhaps other aps. I forget what this is called--something about the repeat setup. Is it possible to slow this down, so as not to have the problem? I am using an IBM keyboard, same as the one on the Windows machine. (This is a noisy KB, but nothing types as well as these do! IBM made good stuff, way back when!) --doug

I've just noted that /var/log/messages is recording a message every ten seconds: kernel: drivers/usb/input/hid-core.c: control queue full Anybody know what this means? Thanks, Dave

My host only has IDE. Why I am using sda is beyond me. I thought for a moment my drive was SATA for a moment but it is not. There is a big problem here. could not start kstartupconfig

Hello, I am after installing OpenSuse 10.1 on my Toshiba Tecra S1 laptop. I have installed it on two partitions: / mounts on /dev/hda6 (formatted as ext3) /home mounts on /dev/hda5 (formatted as ext3, encrypted). I am using KDE. As it boots, I must provide the password for the /home partition. I created a normal user, copied some files etc. and shutdown normally. When I rebooted, and login as that user, if I give the wrong password it reports "login failed", and if I give the correct password it reports "could not start kstartupconfig. Check your installation", and after I press "Okay", I am brought back to the login screen. I can login as root. I see that the home directory for that normal user is not present, and lost+found is empty. I note that on doing df it reports on the filesystem udev. This is the second time that this has occurred – last time I simply reinstalled. I could not recover the data, but I had backups. I have created another user, rebooted, and evreything went OK. But I am very nervous that the same thing will occur again. Is the problem something to do with the filesystem being encrypted? Any ideas? John

[opensuse] Madwifi & atheros drivers

Can I make a request. I've just spent an hour investigating why the madwifi I had installed didn't work, only to discover this web page http://en.opensuse.org/Atheros_madwifi. Can I suggest this information is included in an installation message / readme file for the madwifi package to save other poor souls' time and annoyance. I'd also say that I use the SuSE distro because I find it (relatively) easy to set up, and recommend it to others for the same reason. This piece of installation behaviour definitely isn't friendly. For all the other hardware I didn't need to go to the web site to install the drivers, and I can see no reason why this should be different. [SLE] Wireless: Connecting to a network with a hidden ESSID

Good Morning, I spent an enjoyable Sunday installing OpenSUSE 10.1 (remastered dvd edition) onto my laptop, (Acer 5024), and was pleased to see how much worked by default. Don't worry, this is not going to be yet another thread on how my wireless networking doesn't work at all .... after extensive use of Google and the mailing list archives I finally managed to get the wireless in my laptop to talk using a combination of ndiswrapper and wpa_supplicant. There is one thing with it though where I do require a little assistance. Wireless is currently working ok but I have had to set my access point to broadcast its network name (ESSID?). If i don't do this then wpa_supplicant will not find and authenticate into it, (although it will quite happily attach to any unsecured wireless network in range!). Does anyone know the option, or combination of options, which, I guess, need to go into wpa_supplicant.conf in order to be able to turn the ESSID broadcast off on the access point and still be able to connect to it? I have tried setting ap_scan=2 as per the comment in the default file using the copy of wpa_supplicant configured by Yast under /var/lib but this didn't seem to work.
