EPSON 5900L vs SuSE10

hello, I have a problem to print on SuSE10 using EPSON EPL-5900L. So far I have tried with this: 1. I generated Epson-EPL-5900L-epl5900l.ppd and tried to set up in YAST>HARDWARE>PRINTERS 2. Installed ghostscript.omni. 3. Played with UTILITIES>PRINTING>PRINTING MANAGER No positive result in all cases...no patient nither any more :). Printing with LPR even tells me that there is no entry. What to do? Oliver

must boot from suse 10 DVD

SuSE version 10..clean install a few months ago SATA 160GB HD - 4 partitions xfs no major problems until last wk....I think the was an unnoticed quick power outage; I'm plugged into a APC surge stripe. Everything but the cpu was on. when I tried to reboot I get a little groan from my HD & a black screen with <GRUB loading Stage2.....> on the upper left side and no HD activity. I can boot from the SuSE 10 DVD by going to <other> in the option page & choosing <from installed system>. I tried <repair>, but it can't find any mounted partitions! this even though it boots from them. Yast shows them. We reinstalled the kernel, rewrote mbr, checked the bios, checked logs, checked /etc/fstab, checked my sanity! Fwd: OpenSUSE 10.0 hangs at boot (from time to time - not always)

Hi all, I am new to this mailing-list so please be patient ;-) OK, I have a boot-problem with SUSE 10 on my computer: The Hardware: Dell Dimension 5000, Bios-Version A07 P4(a)3.0 GHz, 3GB RAM, Onboard LAN, ATI X300, Creative Soundblaster Live 24bit 2* Seagate (80 GB + 300 GB) The issue: I was able to install SUSE 10 from DVD (I bought the package). Even with that installation (Online Updates installed, no Packman or other additional software) the system hangs during boot every 5th-6th time. it hangs while the KDE-Login screen is showing, or alternatively JUST before it is about th show (when you see the KDE-Clock) or just immediately after login, while KDE is starting up and loading the user-session. I searched the web and found hints about ACPI-Problems. So I added the boot-option ACPI=OFF. Then I found information about issues with NFS and HyperThreading. The NFS-mounts have been changes to noauto, to make sure they are not processed. Boot-message says: "NFS unused". At last I found postings talking about APIC and LAPIC- So I added the boot-options NOAPIC and NOLAPIC. So I ended up having the following additional boot parameters (besides the SUSE 10 standard ones): ACPI=off, APM=power-off, NOAPIC, NOLAPIC. Result: It still hangs on every 5th-6th boot. That may be an immediate reboot, or one with cold motherboard... just no rules to see. WinXP works fine, SUSE 9.3 did so as well. i opened a service Call with SUSE / NOVELL, but they do not seem to have an idea and it seems as if they still struggle with the reorganisation from suse to novell: Two different Mail addresses, the people working for SUSE 10-Support still have the old Mail address in their footer linking to suse 9.3-suppport who is not responsible and keeps sending back the mails... Mails to the new address are not answered and are not reflected in the status of the web-ticket. So: Does anybody have an idea about where to look at? Which logfile would be interesting? SUSE asked for /var/log/boot.msg but has not responded and that's 5 weeks in the past. I#m not sure, which version of the log is the one to look for, because when I reboot there is a new file written, isn't ist? And the old one (where the system hangs) is gone or reorganised? No More jpeg previews

All; suddenly my system cannot display any jpeg or jpg previews. Kuickshow no longer "sees" any jpg files, nor does the control center if I attempt to choose a new background - I can only see the .png files in /usr/share/wallpapers with the background selector. If I view a directory with the konqueror file browser I see the jpegs but if I select view thumbnail icons I see no previews - just a default jpeg image icon. Any help would be much appreciated...

Kmail and read-only folders

Kmail has recently crashed on me, and after I restarted it, some of my disconnected imap folders are reported as read-only. My setup is the following: on the mail server itself, I use a .procmail file to sort mail into several folders. I have then kmail running on my laptop, using the dimap protocol, to download these folders. I do not understand what "read-only" means in this context. On the server itself, all files are readable by me (and some of the folders are still read-write, so it doesn't appear to be a general problem with the directory itself). Locally, I have done a chmod -R u+w ~/.kde/share/apps/kmail, so there as well all files are writable. Any hint as to how to fix that ? Thanks in advance regards Emmanuel

Evolution and popmail

I am running evolution for downloading all my popmails. I find it is very slow esp when compared to outlook express. While the latter is express downloading even 200+ messages in about a minute, this evolution takes about 10 times longer. How i can tune my evolution ? Thanx for any help.
