SCRIPT: storebackup exited with RETURNCODE = 255.

I installed storeback on my 9.1 system and created two config files in /etc/storebackup--one with the default name (storebackup.config) and another with my own name--to generate two separate backups. I have two problems: 1. Storebackup finishes with 255 returncode, even though no problems are reported in its logfile, and no "exit 255" statement exists in the storeBackup script. 2. The storebackup cron script doesn't run the second backup: ============== [...] if [ -x /usr/bin/storeBackup -a "$configs" ]; then for file in $configs do nice storeBackup -f "$file" done fi ============== I would expect the "for" statement to run twice, but it always stops after the first config file, no matter what names I use to affect the order the files are found. I can manually run each one separately just fine, except for the 255 return code at the end. Anyone with a clue how to fix this? Thanks, Jim

SuSe 9.3 and aic79xx install.

Machine: Dual 3.2Ghz Xeon 4GB RAM Tyan S2721 motherboard with AIC7902W There appears to be a problem with installing on a machine with 4GB and a aic79xx controller. The install goes fine but when it reboots to continue the install it just hangs at the grub menu. From google search the best I can see is a possible issue with the driver and the bigsmp kernel? Strange NFS Problem

I have a Suse 9.3 server running NFS server with two users, afore and lilo >From my client, also Suse 9.3, running NFS Client, I see the shared directories afore & lilo. File ownership is as it should be, afore for afore directory and lilo for lilo directory. I Lilo's machine is running Suse 9.2. First of all, when I setup the NFS client in Yast and try to select for the file system, it cannot find anything. I enter the /home directory same as on my Suse 9.3 machine. When I finish, it takes a long time for Yast to start the services again. I check the mount point, and the two directories are there, but afore as ownership of lilo and lilo folder has ownership of 2002! So, why does the select remote filesystem not work in 9.2 and work in 9.3 and why to the ownerships show up different on the two client machines. Server is set to allow all hosts and the firewalls turned off on all machines for test purposes. Art

disappearing HD (slightly OT)

Hi list, this post is mildly related to linux, feel free to ignore if it's way OT. I thought this might be my best place to turn to. I just reinstalled w2k on my suse/w2k machine. After this one of my NTFS partitions disappeared on me in w2k. Partition magic can see it but claims it to be corrupted. Now the really strange thing is that NTFS partition works excellently under linux. Anyone who's got an idea of how to resurrect it in w2k? As I imagine that would be my only way of converting it into something suse could both read and write. regards, Mikael

Using different userid with fish

The Konqueror browser supports "fish", which can be use to browse remote computers. While it works well, I'd like to be able to set up a URL, with a different userid, than my own. I've tried adding userid@ to the front of the URL, as is done with ssh, but it doesn't work. Any ideas about how I could do this? tnx jk

Try `iptables -F` as root. I got caught by this a couple of times. Merely turning off the firewall doesn't clear the iptables rules. You need to clear them manually.

accessing partitions

I am having a poblem accessing partitions. I use dosemu to access three fat32 partitions: dosc, dosd, and dose. They point to /media/dosc, ... I changed these to john users, but it seems that it has changed back, on its own. I am now unable to write to these partitions. What are the two bottom entries of the /media for? What does user_xattr mean and why is it needed? Why is acl needed?
