Hi Johannes, I was refering to the /etc/cups/ppd directory. It is empty for me. The /usr/share/cups/model does contain zipped .ppd files. Is this how it should be? After configuring the HP print server, it (yast) does not ask me anything about the actual printer. Do I need to go a second time through yast to configure it? Palm zire 72 sync problem.

Hi, I have a palm zire 72 and I'm trying to sync with pilot-link but nothing happens. Enabling printing??

I upgraded from 9.2 to 9.3 a month ago. Printing to my Epson C86 worked perfectly under 9.2. When I installed (sorry - did not upgrade) 9.3, the printer was recognized and it looked like the print queue was setup. I just tried to print but things failed. I played with the firewall settings but have not enabled printing. Can someone clarify what needs to be done to the firewall?? I presume it's the firewall since I found references to this being a stumbling block. strange keyboard behaviour with TightVNC

Hi, I have SuSE 9.1 Pro, with KDE 3.4. I have enabled remote sessions in KDE. Now, from my Win2K machine, using putty to tunnel 5901 port, and after that ThighVNC as client, I see very strange behaviour - whenever I want to type "$" - dollar sign, I get "4". CAPS, Shift, nothing works. No dollar sign at all. This is the only key which does not work, all other !@#%^&*() work OK with Shift pressed, but not the $. It happens in every program I start under KDE, even in the terminal window. But, if I type it in the putty text terminal, it works. Any suggestions? Cheers Sunny

[SLE] Random freezes, even after installing other distro!

Hi all, I've been using 9.3 now for a while, but it's unusable, due to random lockups/freezes. The problems started after a clean install of 9.3. The system crashes at completely random times (using KDE as window manager). When the systems freezes, I'm unable to switch to another runlevel, and the music hangs. My Windows XP doesn't show this kind of behaviour, so I think it isn't a problem with hardware. I've installed today Fedora Core 3 with KDE 3.3, but the freezing problem was still there. Is it a problem with the kernel? With KDE? I dunno. I'm now quite desperate, because I absolutely don't now how to tackle this problem! USB disk hotplug sync mounting

Hello everyone, could you please give me an advice how to solve the following problem: I've got an external 200GB Maxtor USB harddisk. In SUSE 9.3 it is automatically mounted as a subfs hotplug device to /media/usb_disk. It is mounted with synchronous acces (i.e. sync option for mount). However, this sync causes that the writing speed can be only 2MB/s with 100% cpu load (it normally writes about 20MB/s). In SUSE 9.2 I figured out that when it is mounted without sync, the performance is OK (i.e. 20MB/s writing). I have modified /etc/hotplug/hotplug.subfs.functions (i.e. deleted 'sync' from the mounting line there) and after that all worked fine. But in SUSE 9.3 (which I currently use) no matter what I change in /etc/hotplug/hotplug.subfs.functions, the USB disk is always mounted 'sync' (with that horrible writing performance). I understand that it's got something to do wit HAL, but I desperately need to mount the USB disk without sync. Can anyone tell me how to do that? (or even better - how to make sync mounted usb disk write faster than 2MB/s?) Thank you very much in advance Jan Romportl

ATI Radeon VE and OpenGL

I'm having a problem with a program I wrote using OpenSceneGraph and OpneGL. The program builds a 3D tree of arrows with n branches from each parent branch and m levels of branching. Note: what I call a branch, other often call a subtree. Birds don't sit on subtrees, they sit on branches. When I build the tree with more than 3 levels of branching, it locks up then either fails like a nice application and gives me back my display, or locks up various subsystems sometimes to the point where the only option is the on/off I/O device, i.e., can't ssh in. The program runs fine on XP. On SuSE 9.2, running on the same box, I receive the following errors: "Warning... Video Sync not working correctly" (from Producer) and "radeonWaitIrq: drmRadeonIrqWait: -16" from who knows. One suggestion I received was that I might have something from Mesa installed that I don't need. Is there such thing as a Mesa video driver that could be substituted with an ATI driver? Here's all the relevant configuration info I can think of. The box is a P4 2.4 with an intel MB, and a gig of RAM. Not that the fglrx README does not specifically name my hardware as supported, but the problem happens whether that is installed or not. I want to use a notebook computer with Windows XP and Linux. I need Windows for Office (including Visio) and Project, while I need for developing and connection to otherLinux systems.
