Has anyone used the software from APC (their backup "Plus") for Caldera? If so, does it work properly? If not, what software do you use in KDE to control an APC UPS? More About Kat -- v 0.5.3??

Hi, Today I see that the supplementary KDE release area of my chosen SuSE mirror (<ftp://mirror.mcs.anl.gov/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/KDE/update_for_9.3/yas…>) contains Kat 0.5.3. However, there is no mention of such a release on the Kat home page (<http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=22135>)! There is a mention of a bug whose fix will be included in an upcoming 0.5.3 release. I guess this means someone at SuSE is fond of Kat... Does anyone here know how these "supplementary" releases are managed and who (organizationally) has the responsibility for producing them? By the way, should anyone be tempted to run the version 0.5.3, you might want to hold off. It just crashed for me with a SIGSEGV while indexing. 0.5.2 may have hung while indexing, but it didn't crash and you could save a partial index after canceling the stalled indexing operation. Dual head on an ATI9600 and SuSE9.3???

Has anyone managed to get dualhead working with SuSE9.3 using an ATI 9600 video card? I've been fighting with it for a while now... and not getting anywhere. System config: AMDx64 3000+ ATI9600 video (Identified as RV350 AS) I've installed the fglrx drive and the kernel modules as the intructions say on the SuSE ftp site. I've got the fglrx driver working with one monitor just fine. When I try to setup dual monitor it fails miserably. It tries to start X and fails... back to the command line. I'm out of ideas.... does anyone have any suggestions... or pointers for getting this working? 9.3 Pro Headless Install Possible?

I've done some googling on headless installs and have only been able to find references to SLES having that capability by using pxe and VNC. Does anyone know whether or not it is possible to do a headless install of 9.3 Pro, and if so, where there might be a howto on the subject? desktop icons problem

I just installed 9.3 on my computer. It was new installation but without /home partition formating (the previous system was 9.2 fully kernel and KDE updated) I updated my new installation via yast and installed a number of packages... I can not recall when, but sometime during this update/install process, my desktop icons started to behave strangely: "trash", "my computer" and "network browsing" don't work anymore. They just display "Malformed URL" error messages, with the respective url named in the message ("trash:/", "media:/" or "remote:/")... When I enter any of the urls in konqueror url field they work... I compared the properties of all three icons with another computer (clean 9.3 install) and they appear identical. I created a new dummy user - the desktop icons work perfectly there! I checked file associations in control center - they seem to be correct, compared with the same on another comp. What can I do? I think of either deleting some (hidden) files/folders on my comp, or copying them from another user or computer, but I don't know what files or what folders... This is not a major problem - it is just an annoyance, but I am really curious to learn how this stuff works. Where is this particular bit of difference stored on my system, can it be repaired and how? TIA & best regards, cikasole

You can also hard reset the box and access the BIOS menu using this method. The nice part is you access their boxes through a web browser which makes is very easy to manage remote boxes ni any state. I've also used Avocent KVM's which will give you remote keyboard, mouse and screen access but not removable media re-direction which wouldn't be any good in this case. The datacenter may have some other method and many will install a base OS for you, although they usually specify what OS's they are willing to install. It may be worth asking them what options you have available, as this is not an OS issue if I understand correctly.

mod_auth_pam

Hello, Has anyone any experience using "mod_auth_pam" with apache2 on a Suse Linux ? I'm now using (not on a SuSe server) the "mod_auth_pam" in conjunction with the "pam_winbind" module to restrict access to web folders to Windows Domain groups and that's work fine ! I shoul migrate this web server to Suse linux and I've not found the "mod_auth_pam" on any Suse Linux distribution ! Any help on this subject would be greatly appreciated. Regards. Folks, I seem to have got it working now by following an earlier suggestion of settings: YAST ---> hardware --> Printer Select Other(not Detected) and press Configure Select --> Print Directly to a Network Printer Select --> Direct TCP Port Printing My question now is the port defaults to 9100. I have 3 ports on my print server. How do I access the other two?
