Hi! I'm trying the Suse 9.1 on a virtual machine before upgrade my 9.1. I have problems with my Sony Clié tj-27. It seems for me that the visor kernel module in the SuSE 9.3 is not working with my pda. I think I read something about visor module not working in the newest versions of 2.6 kernel with clié pda's, but I can't find again nothing about that, even after googleing... ¿anyone knows something? The problem is that the dmesg shows properly loading the visor module, and, when I connect the clie and press the sync button, it's recognized also, and assigned to the usual ttyUSB0 and ttyUSB1 devices. But every application that i tried (multisync, gpilot, kpilot, pilot-xfer....) stays waiting as if no data is really coming down from the clié... Can't find nothing about that in the internet. Perhaps some of you could help... Thanks Nacho

Konqueror FileManager profile locking up 3.4.0b Today's bits

The Konqueror locks up every time I try to use the FileManager profile. This started happening after I applied the latest updates from the KDE Supplementary directory. Anybody else? -- Regards, Steven

Xmms doesn't work (it can't find alsa??)

Hi all I'm using SuSE 9.2 on a PII. I can't get xmms to work for me. In fact the ONLY media player that works is kaffeine. I am trying to play cd's and mp3's. Kaffeine works just fine. On older versions of SuSE I never had too much trouble with xmms. When I run xmms, it starts, loads the cd TOC, I select the track but when I try to play it I get a dialog that says: Please Check that: Your soundcard is configured properly You have the correct output plugin selected No other program is blocking the sound card Of course the card does work since I can hear music with Kaffeine. In the terminal I use to start xmms I do see the following: GLib-CRITICAL **: file gutils.c: line 237 (g_basename): assertion `file_name != NULL' failed. Not being a programmer, I have no idea what this means. Then when I push play on xmms I see another message on the terminal: ** WARNING **: alsa_get_mixer(): Attaching to mixer hw:0 failed: No such device ** WARNING **: alsa_setup(): Failed to open pcm device (default): No such device Now according to yast, I have alsa installed so I can't understand why xmms can't find the devices it mentions. I tried to google the error messages but I couldn't find anything relevent. Any thoughts???

kintenet time out

Whe I was running SUse 9.2 there was a feature under kintenet to timout the modem connection if it has been idle more than x minutes/ I tried to do the same with 9.3 and it does not seem to work at all. I have changed the time from 120 to 10 minutes through YAST but no affect. Am I doing it wrong? Has some other people able to get it to work? -- Joseph Loo jloo(a)acm.org

External Tape Drive on ProLiant DL380 G4

I'm trying to add an external tape drive to a HP ProLiant DL 380 running SuSE Linux Pro 9.2 on the Smart Array controller without much success. The controller BIOS appears to recognize the device during boot, but I can't seem to find it on the system. sylpheed install errors

I tried to install sylpheed claws, V1.0.4a, and here is the ./configure error I got: checking for glib-config... /opt/gnome/include/glib-2.0/glib.config checking for GLIB - version >= 1.2.6... no *** Could not run GLIB test program, checking why... *** The test program failed to compile or link. See the file config.log for the *** exact error that occured. This usually means GLIB was incorrectly installed *** or that you have moved GLIB since it was installed. WHY would you not install an rpm built for *your* distro, which you fail to mention, except that it is *not* 9.1? distccd keeps dying on two of my boxes.

I'm running distccd on my network, and it stays running except for on two boxes. One of the boxes does very little other than run distccd. The other box, and don't tell anybody, is the same box I run make on. I loop back through the host name, and make the build process think it's on the network. Any ideas why distccd would die regularly on some systems, but not on others? BTW, starting it with Yast is a bad idea because it then runs as root, and causes access permission problems. -- Regards, Steven

linux clock drift

I have a problem with clock drift on an opteron machine running suse 9.2. I think I've narrowed the problem down to the kernel clock. I stopped NTP so that isn't confusing the issue. I manually set the system clock and the hardware clock to match another NTP-synchronized clock that is working properly and left it for an hour. The hardware clock is still showing the correct time, but the system clock has gained 52 minutes in an hour. Can anybody suggest where to start looking for the source of the problem? Thanks, Dave
