You need to step back and quit jumping to conclusions. I've been on this list for a good portion of the last 2 years, and am not like some Microsoft FanBoy yelling "Linux Sucks! Linux Sucks!" for the sake of it. If you can honestly sit back and say Novell/SuSE's quality control is pefect, go right ahead. I was merely pointing out that they've had numerous problems with 9.2 and 9.3 in the past year that have been show-stoppers for me, personally. I >LOVE< the bundling SuSE has in it. There isn't a single distro I've tried (I try to look at anything new - short of the 300 live CDs) that has such tight integration of KDE/Control Panel, and YaST. If there's one thing I could change about SuSE, it would be this list - remove you from it, or at least change your attitude. 9 out of 10 posts you make have no purpose other than to personally attack something someone says. It's either "You're an idiot, why didn't you Google for it first" or the likes of which your reply to me was. Steve

xorg.conf and XF86Config get mixed up.

Has anyone else had a problem with X getting confused between the /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /etc/X11/XF86Config? I just installed a new NVidia GeForce 6800 GT. The setup was an adventure to say the least. I kept having problems where X would start with one configuration on boot, and another when it was restarted. I finally deleted the /etc/X11/xorg.conf and changed the /etc/X11/XF86Config by hand, to put the correct modeline at the top of the list, and give it the correct DisplaySize values. Anyone else had these problems? -- Regards, Steven

Hauppauge WinTV-GO Model 190

OS: Suse 9.3 PRO I recently purchased the Hauppauge WinTV tv card. After installation the system seemed to recognize the card, but not its tuner. Using YAST "Manual TV selection" I've done the following: Vendor: Hauppauge Card: Hauppauge bt878 (chip on the card is Conexant 878a) Choose Tuner: Default (system then indicates tuner default (detected)) TV Channels: TV Norm: NTSC Frequency Table: us-cable I then "Scan the Channels" and get the following: ERROR: The kernel module for TV support could not be loaded SHOW DETAILS: sh: "card":"10":"tuner":-1": syntax error: operand expected (error token is "card":"10", "tuner":"-1") I have played around selecting other tuner options ... but no joy. Any suggestions/guidance would be appreciated. Bill

Like I said in my reply to Patrick, I read this list because SuSE has always been a favorite of mine, but the QC process in 9.2 and 9.3 have been lacking, IMHO. It's extremely disheartening to do an update of a "security" update, only to find KDM is borked, and the only way to fix it is to a) backtrack to a previous version of the "bad" package (if you still have it), or hand edit config files to fix the problem. 9.2 had a problem right off the bat with a kernel that crapped out on my laptop. Unless I had a live internet connection during the install and did an online update right away, I had to boot off a recovery CD and manually install the updated kernel. I'll continue trying the new releases of SuSE, but won't start paying for them again until I get one that installs relatively cleanly and survives the first couple updates without blowing up. Steve

imapd ssl, can't find certificate

Hi, I think suse 9.2 no longer uses unsecure imap like 7.3. KDM Login Manager on 9.3

Hello, I have recently upgraded from SuSE 9.1 to 9.3. I would like to get back the nice KDM login dialog instead of the special olive-drab version SuSE has put in. I tried working with the control center and can set all the options I want but when I log out the same SuSE version is still there (after a quick flash of the background *I* have selected). Where do I change this? thanks.

I did try to install the RPM for SUSE 9.1 but it also failed, dependencies.. I have SUSE 9.3 Pro installed.
