Printing from KMail on 9.3

Hello, When I try to print from KMail on SuSE 9.3 the printer light blinks a couple of time but there is no output. Printing from KNode works just fine and both seem to be using the same KDE printing subsystem. Worked for me on 9.1. Also, I can print to PDF and then print the PDF OK. All other printing applications I have run across so far work fine. It is just printing directly to printer from KMail that is giving me problems. Using CUPS to a network printer (HP2100M). No error message in /var/log/*. Has anyone else had a problem printing from KMail on 9.3?

Hi guys, Does anyone know how to, if I interrupted john with ctrl+C, let it resume where it stopped? I accidently stopped it (wrong console...) after about two weeks of running on a 3ghz Xeon - not keen to start over. syslog-ng configuration.

Hmm -- from 9.1 to 9.3 syslog has morphed into syslog-ng. I have my gateway/router set to send syslog info to my SuSE system. This worked fine on 9.1 but I can't figure out how todo it on 9.3. There are two levels of configuration one can deal with -- the individual package's config file (syslog-ng.conf) or the /etc/sysconfig/syslog file. All the documentation addresses the first, but comments in that file say to leave it alone and use the second. But there is nothing in that file that seems appropriate for enabling external connections. Anyone have experience with this?

Semi-successful SSL/Apache Configuration

Hello, I have been able to configure SSL/Apache so that it works, but I had to do it in a way that leads me to believe things aren't 100% kosher. If I set the following in /etc/sysconfig/apache2 apache will not start: APACHE_SERVER_FLAGS="-DSSL" I get an error message about port 443 being in use. It is actually NOT in use, as I can see via the netstat command. It appears that Apache is trying to bind to the port twice. If I start Apache without the above setting it starts OK and DOES listen to port 443. But, without the above setting an important part of the Apache virtual host config file gets skipped. I can only get it all to work by commenting out the "<IfDefine SSL>" Note that I have configured this manually based on the "vhost-ssl.template" file as I could not get the configuration supplied by yast to work at all. Can anyone enlighten me on what's going on here? Thanks.

I am attempting to add an icon to my desktop for manual flashdrive mounting. XFree to xorg on SuSE 9.0

I'm interested in switching to xorg from XFree, can anyone explain the benefits or reasons not too? Also, how much effort is involved and would I be able to do something along the lines :- apt install xorg Phil

Edit Kmail Shortcuts

In Kmail I'm trying to change the 'Move to Trash' shortcut from 'Delete' to 'D'. Kmail > Settings > Configure Shortcuts > Move to Trash > Custom. In the Custom dialog I can't change 'Delete' to 'D', which I would like it to be. It seems there is no way to edit text here. Is there another way to do this? Thanks, Jerome

TrippLite and Serial Ports

I have a new TrippLite SmartPro UPS 2200 I am attempting to manage via a box running SLES9. I connected the supplied DB-9 serial cable to the server, installed the PowerAlert monitoring utility and launched the console. The console says it can't find any UPSes. The command prompt from which I launched the console reports: ERR: VarRecord.update: PDU error 5 I believe this is a generic snmp error, likely indicating there is no communication between the UPS and the server. TrippLite tech support did not want to talk to me once I told them the box was running SLES; they claim they only support Linux. The tech did eventually volunteer that most problems are because the serial port needs to be set to 2400 baud. (He also told me his docs had no info for parity, data bits or stop bits, so who knows...). Being a newb to serial ports under Linux (but knowing a bit about serial ports in principle having done beta testing for Hayes years ago), I'd like to know the following if some kind soul could help: 1. Do I need to load a kernel module to get the serial port fully functional? setserial correctly reports the uart type already. 2. How do I set the parity, data and stop bit settings for the port (I'll start with N-8-1, preferably). 3. I think the port is already at 2400 baud, but I'd like to run something at boot time that definitely initializes the serial port. Setserial? Thanks! Bastille Linux
