UTC and localtime

Hey Group; Has SuSE been screwing around with the UTC and localtime again. Around SuSE 6 or 7 they had a problem which caused the clock to be set wrong every time you booted up again. If you set it with netdate or something and then shut it down. When you booted back up it was 6 hours off. It is 10:06PM (22:06) here right now. But the KDE clock is showing 19:36. I have since the last setting the time turned this machine off and back on several time. I have forgotten what I did to fix it! Heavy Ldap client traffic

We have been testing suse 9.2 for use in our office. Suse is generating a HUGE amount of ldap traffic when you are running X. nscd would not work with the version that came with 9.2 (2.2.2-118, I think, would contantly abort) so I went back to suse 9.1's version 2.2.2-98. nscd is now running, but the ldap traffic is still very high when you log into X (or startx). I do not have the same problem with any of my RHEW 3.0 machines. Any Idea's? Mike Eklund Delta Research, Inc.

Between looking on the net and this newsgroup, I've decided. Thanks You all finally made me right down what all I want in my network and do a topology diagram. The two things that pushed me toward vnc were I want to create my own dial up server, in case I am away from home and need net access, and a vpn to a from a remote local (parents house and brothers) so I can look at thier problems without the drive. Brother runs Linux but not on everything and mom only knows Windows and likes those goofy online games, so following the old kiss principle, vnc is cross platform and only have to configure one thing. If it weren't for remote access, it would have been x. Thanks Randal

Gil Oops Sorry Gil, I have not played stuff with Kaffeine but with mplayer (or gmplayer) I can pass URLs to it to play on the command line or even using the GUI. In your case I would just copy the link location using Firefox and paste it into Kaffeine. If it plays then you can fiddle with Firefox, if it does not then you need to have a player that can play mms streams. (I dont think you can download the mms stream as it is just that a stream.) Seg Fault in SuSE 9.2 ?!

Hello SuSE folkz, I'm completely puzzled... I'm getting total Segmentation Fault in SuSE9.2 If I run YaST in text mode or trying to execute make to compile some sources, it all crashes with seg fault message. Could somebody please enlighten me on this issue. Is it a SuSE kernel, deficiency in C libs or other things cause this problem? Thank you in advance for any help. Alex

avfs (for use with rox)

Has anyone managed to compile avfs for use with rox with SuSE 9.2? My attempts fail with the (apparent) redefinitions of several structures in time.h. Looks like the problem is far worse. I tried a Western Digital WD800 ATA/100 drive and it gives the same problem. Maybe the kernel that SuSE 9.2 ships with has an issue with the mobo. Does anybody know of a Gigabyte GA-8TRS350MT system that runs SuSE 9.2? I see there is a newer BIOS version out. no Audio CD on DVD

Have just installed SuSE 9.1 Pro after having used 8.2 Pro for a while, but don't take that to mean I'm all that brilliant a user... All these things worked under 8.2 as I recall. Sony DW-U18a DVD Burner is recognized by the system and worked very nicely to install 9.1 from the DVD's. It works to read my DVD of backed up system files. Have not yet tried to burn any DVD's with it yet. It will NOT read: Audio CD's burned cd's of data files including simple .txt files or .mp3 files When one of these type are installed, it does attempt some read (I can hear the drive surging) but eventually it stops and nothing further happens. I have also installed a CD-ROM device which reads all of the Audio and data CD discs with no problem. This time I installed with Grub instead of Lilo, no idea why, or why not to do one or the other...just thought I'd try something different... I have no idea where to start to "fix" this. I'd just as soon leave both devices attached, for copying data cd's to DVD for example. But since it seems that the DVD recorder/reader works for DVD's and the CDROM device works for CD's I'm loathe to remove the CDROM from the system. Anyone give me a push regarding where I start with trying to sort out something like this? In a world without walls or fences, who needs Windows or Gates?
