Greets; I was wondering, is it possible to output Kongi's history file. While I am sure this is possible, unfortunately I cant seem to find where Kongi stores its history cache or flatfile? regards /ch

Help: Suse 9.1 box won't boot!

Hi: I have a Suse 9.1 box that has suddenly broke. It gets stuck with a message that I need to check the filesystem, but as you will see, there is apparently nothing wrong with the filesystem: The booting stops here and the following is a log of what I've done to fix it, without success: ... Loading console font lat9w-16.psfu -m trivial CK ... done fsck failed. Please repair manually and reboot. The root filesystem is currently mounted read-only. To remount it read-write do: bash# mount -n -o remount,rw / Attention: Only CONTROL-D will reboot the system in this maintenance mode. Shutdown or reboot will not work. Give root password for login: # mount /dev/sda2 on / type reiserfs (rw,acl,user_xattr) /dev/sda2 on / type reiserfs (rw,acl,user_xattr) # fsck /dev/sda2 fsck 1.34 (25-Jul-2003) reiserfsck 3.6.13 (2003 www.namesys.com) ... Partition /dev/sda2 is mounted with write permissions, cannot check it fsck.reiserfs /dev/sda2 failed (status 0x10). Run manually! # mount -n -o remount,ro / # fsck /dev/sda2 fsck 1.34 (25-Jul-2003) reiserfsck 3.6.13 (2003 www.namesys.com) ... Partition /dev/sda2 is mounted with write permissions, cannot check it fsck.reiserfs /dev/sda2 failed (status 0x10). Run manually! # mount /dev/sda2 on / type reiserfs (rw,acl,user_xattr) /dev/sda2 on / type reiserfs (rw,acl,user_xattr) Ok, so we see that the system tells me it is RO and I should check, but it is really RW and I can't check. Nor can I remount it RO. And there is the strange fact that mount shows it mounted twice. So I run the rescue system from CD: Rescue login: root Rescue:~# fsck /dev/sda2 ... reiserfsck --check started ... Replaying journal.. Reiserfs journal '/dev/sda2' in blocks [18..8211]: 0 transactions replayed Checking internal tree..finished Comparing bitmaps..finished Checking semantics tree: finished No corruptions found There are on the filesystem: Leaves 78819 Internal nodes 522 Directories 22794 Other files 303921 Data block pointers 9007004 (1123 of them are zero) Safe link 0 ... Reiserfsck finished Rescue:~# So that's it. There appears to be nothing wrong. Furthermore, I can mount it from the rescue and all the directories appear to be their, and the files in a few of the dirs I browsed. How to get Suse to stop getting stuck? USB to serial Cable under SuSE 9.2

Folks, I'm a bit stumped here and hope someone has seen this before. I just bought a USB->serial cable from PCClub. It's advertised as a USB 2.0 Certified Interface (usbview diagrees with that), and SuSE does recognize it, but I can not get minicom to talk to it. When I set it to /dev/ttyUSB0 or any USB tagged port, it comes back and complains that the port is not found. I have it plugged into the top USB slot of the laptop. What I need it for is to configure telecom equipment that uses serial ports for the interface (VT100 9600/N/8/1). I've been playing with this for about a day and need to move on or get it to work. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'll even buy a different cable if there is one proven to work. Thanks, ...Paul Here are the particulars: OS SuSE 9.2 (updated 1/31/05 from the Chicago Site). apt & new mozilla/firefox

Today, I've run into an error after updating my mozilla and firefox packages using the APT system. Investigating the situation, I found a solution which I like to share. First I updated to MozillaFirefox-1.0-4.3 apt install MozillaFirefox - installed version 1.0-4.3 When calling the app: /usr/bin/firefox it resulted in the error message /mozilla-bin: error while loading shared libraries: /opt/gnome/lib/libpangoft2-1.0.so.0: undefined symbol: g_type_class_add_private Googling for the error message only reveiled a discussion on this board from September last year, suggesting to reload the original version from the CD. My personal solution: Looking into the directory /opt/gnome/lib reveils two broken symbolic links: libglib-2.0.so -> libglib-2.0.so.0.400.6, libgmodule-2.0.so -> libgmodule-2.0.so.0.400.6 After fixing these links, mozilla & firefox are working fine. These are my changes (as root user): cd /opt/gnome/lib rm libglib-2.0.so && ln -s libglib-2.0.so.0.400.7 libglib-2.0.so rm libgmodule-2.0.so && ln -s libgmodule-2.0.so.0.400.7 libgmodule-2.0.so Regards, Rainer

iTune DAAP Client on SuSE

Hello I was trying to access to the Apple's iTune shared folders on the other hosts (Win and MacOSX) and found the soft called AppleRecords: http://www.cdavies.org/permalink/applerecordsreleased.php Has anyone tried this software, or the software which allows you to access to the iTune's shared folder? I'd like to take a shot, but also am quite nervous about getting into trouble.. Any comment will be apprecieted. I like it because it is very compatible with Pine (an email read or flagged in one shows as such in the other). Found the problem. I needed the / in back of the datasheets. Apache2 & suse 9.2 accessing a user directory

I had received a suggestion from the list (email is on other machine at home) to use Alias /datasheets /home/user/datasheets in the httpd.conf file. Tried this with no success. Also added the following Direcctive <Directory /home/user/datasheets> Options All (Also tried None) AllowOverride None Order deny,allow Allow from all </Directory> All I get is Forbidden You don't have permission to access /datasheets on this server. Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. Directory permissions are rwxr-xr-- which should give appache read access if I am not mistaken. Has anyone any suggestions or examples of what files to modify to get this to work? /datasheets only contains .pdf files and I want to be able to select a file from a web browser. Art

Log files not compressing

Hi all! I have just noticed a problem with my logs files. Usually they are automatically compressed (gziped) regularly (usually every second day) depending on how large they are. However I have just noticed that they have stopped being compressed, so my logs are HUGE. The last time they were compressed was on the November 23. My /var/log/mail is now 58 mbs my /var/log/httpd/access_log is a whopping 1168 mbs my /var/log/httpd/error_log is a huge 768 mbs. The problem is that I don't know much about this process at all. I assume that it is a cronjob that automatically compresses the logs. How do I restart the compressing process? Thanks in advance, and regards from Denmark! Dan Eskildsen

UTC and localtime

Hey Group; Has SuSE been screwing around with the UTC and localtime again. Around SuSE 6 or 7 they had a problem which caused the clock to be set wrong every time you booted up again. If you set it with netdate or something and then shut it down. When you booted back up it was 6 hours off. It is 10:06PM (22:06) here right now. But the KDE clock is showing 19:36. I have since the last setting the time turned this machine off and back on several time. I have forgotten what I did to fix it!
