Hi all I just bought a notebook for my daughter (Dell Inspiron 510m). Tested with Knoppix 3.7 (wonderful) Tested with FreeSBIE 1.0 (see above). Then, yesterday in the afternoon, I tried to install SuSE 9.1: yast did not start in graphical mode or with incredible colours and characters if I changed the screen resolution on boot. Since I am quite curious I tried SuSE 9.2 (same result), Mandrake 10.0 (same result), SuSE 8.2 (WORKS FINE!!) Is there anyone thet can explain to me such a behaviour Ciao emilio

An apology to the list

I have only just found out that this list does not like Gmail. I have been replying to what I believed were messages on the list. It turns out that I have been replying to individual list members. I'm not a wet behind the ears newbie to mailing lists so for once this is not my fault. I have been hitting the 'reply' tab in Gmail expecting the reply to go to the list as it normally should. PostgreSQL 8.01 Proble/Question

Hi, I have just installed SuSE 9.2 PostgreSQL 8.01 RPMs from: ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/postgresql/postgresql-8.0.1 Unfortunately, PostgreSQL seem to be not running... Calling rcpostgresql or /etc/init.d/postgresql scripts return nothing for start, stop, restart, etc. Like nothing happen. Anyone have an idea what might be wrong? mod_auth_ldap / ssl support

ALSA question

Hi all, At home I have a Soundblaster Live. This card can handle multiple audio streams, for example, I can listen to music, and the kde plings and plongs will still sound, and if someone phones me on skype, it will ring while the music is playing. At work, I have an old Soundblaster 128, which doesn't have this functionality in hardware. I know arts does this, but arts always lag (ever tried to watch a movie with sound going through arts?), and not all sound apps can talk to arts. I also know that ALSA can handle this. I've seen it done, but for all the things I've tried, I can't get it to work. I know it can be done, I've seen it done (saw it on a audiophile's PC, old redhat with alsa added by hand). APC UPS

Hi all, Does anyone know how to set up an APC Back_UPS XS 1500 battery backup? This APC ups works with a USB cable on the PC side connecting to an RJ-45 plug in the back of the ups. I'm using Suse 8.2. The apcupsd that comes with 8.2 does not seem to know how to handle the usb connection. Nor does the PowerChute I downloaded from APC, it only seems to work with serial. I tried installing rpm's from suse ftp for suse 9.0 and 9.1, but they have too many dependencies on 8.2. Does anyone have an rpm for a newer version of apcupsd for suse 8.2? Upgraded Mozilla still renders wrong

Hi: I just upgraded my Suse 9.1 to Mozilla 1.7.5 using the .rpm from ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/mozilla Unfortunately, this version still renders some pages horribly. I know that Mozilla and Firefox on Windows, and even Firefox (vanilla from Mozilla.org) renders these correctly on Linux: http://shop.mellesgriot.com/products/ProductLine.asp?plga=020160&mscssid= For that site, text is rendered on top of itself and the menu in the upper left is messed up. http://www.travelocity.com/?Service=TRAVELOCITY For the Travelocity site, notice the link overlaying the "Search flights" button. Things get really screwed when I: 1. select "Minors" equal to some number >0, 2. then the "Minor ages at time of travel" drop-down is overlayed by a link, so it cannot be used. Anyone else notice these rendering problems on their Suse 9.1 installations? I am using 32-bit. Thanks. -- ____________________________________ Christopher R. FTP with KBEAR

I presently run SuSE 9.1 with KDE 3.2.2.level "a" When I am having a problem with KBEAR (FTP) if I transfer a .jpg to the webserver they will not display. If I copy the jpg to Windows (yak) and use WSFTP they work. This just started happening recently. Checking the permissions show they are the same if I use kbear or WSftp. Only message I see in Kbear that I do not seein in WSFTP is kbear tries the following: 250 CWD command successful. type A 200 Type set to A. EPSV 500 EPSV not understood. PASV 227 Entering Passive Mode (216,40,195,82,11,76). list -a 150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for file list 226 Transfer complete. I do not see that EPSV message in WSftp it starts in passive mode. I use the icon to provide a link to another site. The file does transfer. If I put my cursor over the area where the jpg should be I can click I can link to the site. I tryed looking at the SuSE update site but it says I have the latest versions of KDE. Can anyone give me an idea what to look at. I will be tring a manual update from the console or Konqueror. The linux browser I've tryed are Konqueror and Mozilla. Both exhibit the same issue until I transfer the jpg with WSftp from Windows. -- Russ

Help with finding lib modules

Hello all, I just dl'd a package called Directory Administrator that I found on Freshmeat. When I went to install there were unresolved dependancies so I searched for them on the Suse Install and Source Dvd's and could not find them. The files / modules are libcrypto.so.4 and libssl.so.4 . Where would I look to find these? Thanks Mike
