Recompiling glibc

Hello, I'm running SLES 8 with kernel 2.4.21-273 and glibc-2.2.5.-233. When I try to recompile glibc I got an error because the <gd.h> <gdfonts.h> <gdfontl.h> and <gd_io.h> file is not found. These include files are present in /usr/include of course but not in kernel-header. Does somebody know how to recompile the glibc ?? SuSE 9.2 - Proliant 380 G3

Anybody tried to install the drivers included in the Proliant Support Pack for SLES9?, installed some fancy things (like the storage configuration tool), but couldn't make work the important things like the SmartArray driver. The server is running about 2 months already, but i'm trying to install the PSP because of two problems i've found: Yesterday tried to attach an old DLT IV drive to it and it wasn't detected. Sometimes when moving ~20GB of data from one filesystem to another it seems to freeze for some seconds. All the filesystems are on a hardware RAID5 (SmartArray) Are any difference between the SmartArray module supplied with SuSE Pro 9.2 and the one from the Proliant Support Pack?? iPOD

During a previous post on another thread, someone mentioned iPOD. Is there Linux software that will work with the iPOD (eg. playlists, etc). Moving Samba PDC from old RH to SuSE 9.2

Hi! We have a Samba domain controller in very old RedHat. How should I move it to a new SuSE 9.2? I need to move the PDC functionality, the users and the files. There are not that many users, so they could all set their passwords again if it's not possible to move them. First thing, how do I import the users to SuSE 9.2? The RH system doesn't use shadow (if that helps). I need to import them to both linux (the normal /etc/passwd) as well as samba... there isn't any import system? Next, what to I need to do to move the computers (windows clients)? Just import them as normal users? To both linux main users as well as samba users? How about synchronization of the passwords from samba (windows client) to unix? Windows users must change their passwords from windows. Then the switch... should I first switch off the old server (at least the samba) and after that configure the new server as PDC to the same domain and start that up. I'm expecting to do as much as possible through the Yast GUI, but as with many other things... I think it's not enough and I need to go to the conf-files. What kind of problems should I expect? -- Hugo.

Yahoo messenger problem after YOU update

Hi all, I face a problem with Yahoo messenger after updating new packages using YOU. I'm using SuSE 9.0. It's happened last 3 weeks before but at the first i think it may problem with yahoo messenger itself. After asking my friends and they have not a problem with that. The problem are my buddies online status are not shown. it seems they are offline or in invisible mode but they are not. I used Mandrake 10.1 first, gave up on that, then bought and installed SuSE 9.2. I had no trouble installing it and in understanding how to use the basic functions. But other *little* things have me stumped - like how to install a software (firefox) upgrade when it isn't in RPM format. And a lot of functions in the same "class" of differentness (a word?) where I have trouble finding documentation explaining how to do it. I am fairly intelligent, can read, and understand things. I was able to go from Win 95 to Win XP Pro by myself and get to a point where I could help others with their Windows problems. BUT, after a few months in SuSE 9.2, I don't think I will ever get to that point in Linux. I know I used to spend hours on the phone waiting to talk to a Microsoft tech support *live* human being. But it was worth it because I got specific answers to my specific question. I was willing to spend money to get the answers because I wanted to "use a computer". Simple reason, but one that was totally achievable with Windows and *live* tech support. IMHO only, THIS is where Linux needs to change. How on earth can a person like me begin to truly "understand" how Linux works if I cannot *talk* to someone who will lead me to even *ask* the *right* questions? I will pay for the help. But where do I get the help? I am quite serious about this post. Please feel free to contact me directly by email if you know answers to this. I have tried to find someone who is willing to spend time - for a fee - with me on the telephone to answer questions as they come up. I know of at least two other people who would do the same thing. I got them to try Linux, but they went back to Windows. This is the kind of help we new Linux users need. Thanks for listening. Andy PS: Another thing. I'm looking into RAID, and as such I started to read the suse manual and the raid howto on the web. I still have some questions that someone on this list can answer. 1) Is it possible to add a soft raid after installation? The system I want to extend with raid (raid 1) is already up and running on single disk system (it has 2 disks). 2) How does one enable hardware raid. The motherboard has an onboard hardware raid controller. The controller does not really seem to be supported by linux (Promise 378). Anyway, I ask this out of interest ;) In case of hardware should it be done via the bios or completely different? -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

awk command on text files

Hi all, I've a lot of text files like the one you can see at the end of my mail (starting with Message-ID). I need to import parts of those messages into mysql: Message-ID, Subject, From, Newsgroups, and the text which is in html. I want to first create the text files containing only the information I want to import and then import them in mysql Using "awk '$1~/Message-ID/ || $1~/Subject/ || $1~/From/ || $1~/Newsgroups/ ' 4060bb67.txt > txt1.awk". I'm able to take the first fields and using "awk ' /<body>/,/<\/body>/ ' 4060bb67.txt > text2.awk" the text in html but when I try one unique command it just doesn't work. Any idea? Is there perhaps a more elegant way of doing the same thing?
