Problem during updates and adding installation sources

OpenOffice 2.0 AND 2.1

Problem: When creating a table in Base using the wizard, an error occurs in step #4. "Column size is required in statement [CREATE TABLE "Address"....] Note that this particular error comes from selecting the Personal Address table in the Wizard. This was done on a SuSE Linux system. All attempts a custom tables and forms had the same results. IMPORTANT: OOo 2.0 final and OOo 2.0.1 require JRE 1.5.x for the Wizard to function properly. Any OOo version prior to OOo 2.0 final including all of the Betas require JRE 1.4.x. SUSE SHOULD have shipped JRE 1.5x with SUSE 10.0 and the OO pre2.0 release would have worked properly. Installation fails after first stage

I have a problem installing opensuse 10.0 for a friend. The stage 1 installation ( I mean before the reboot) passes without any problems. But after the reboot, I choose Boot From Hard Disk, the SUSE LINUX 10.0 from Grub and then nothing works, it gives me a shell and says press enter to login . What(s the problem ? Is there anyway to run the second stage of the installation from this shell .

cannot play commercial DVD's with open SUSE 10

Hi List; I've just installed openSUSE v10 on an IBM thinkpad but I cannot play commercial DVD's. I've installed xine and xine-lib but I get the following error when I attempt to run play a DVD with xine or kaffiene: Warning: This version of Xine lacks support for playing DVD discs for legal reasons. Please go to http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2003/09/xine_dvd.html for further details. If I go to this url it simply tells me there is no legal dvd player for linux. Suse cd ripper +mpeg4

I am trying to rip a cdrom to install on an apple ipod 30gb. I went to http://www.acaciaclose.co.uk/31307/41461.html?*session*id*key*=*session*id*… and tried amarok, but it does not do the id3 tags where cd ripper (sound juicer) does. When I go to Edit, Preferences, and try to select the mp4 or mp3 output formats, there is nothing but FLAC and Ogg which the ipod does not support. I have installed faac ffmpeg, libffmpeg, but that did not help. I have seen on the internet about the ipod with linux, and I do get konqueror to recognize it along with gtkpod (the ipod). Now problem is to get from cdrom to the music repository with idtags and in mp4 format so I can sync it with the ipod. (gtkpod does not recognize the cdrom). Any suggestions or insight on how to do this? Art

VMware 4.5.x and SuSE 9.3

Hello, I have been running VMWare 4.5.2 on my SuSE 9.3 for some time with no problem. When I started VMware today I got a message that there was an upgrade available and sure enough there was a 4.5.3 dated 12/27 available. I installed the RPM but got an error message when running vmware-config.pl: make: Leaving directory `/tmp/vmware-config3/vmnet-only' Unable to make a vmnet module that can be loaded in the running kernel: insmod: error inserting '/tmp/vmware-config3/vmnet.o': -1 Unknown symbol in module There is probably a slight difference in the kernel configuration between the set of C header files you specified and your running kernel. You may want to rebuild a kernel based on that directory, or specify another directory. This surprised me since just two weeks ago I rebuilt the VMware modules successfully when I upgraded the kernel. So, I figured no big deal I'll just re-install the older version of VMware and re-run vmware-config.pl to get back to where I was. Well, that didn't work! I am getting the same error. The one thing I tried was to re-run "make cloneconfig" and "make prepare-all" but that didn't help. ipw2200 wireless problem, minor but annoying

Hello, I have a small but annoying problem regarding my wireless connection. When SuSE 10 boots up, the wireless card doesn't connect to my network. It is configured through YaST to connect automatically at boot. Logging in as root and executing "rcnetwork restart" does the trick every time. Any guesses as to the initial hiccup? Securing data on laptop

I'll be spending the weekend setting up a laptop and wondered what others do to secure the data on their laptops. In the past I've had either an encrypted home partition, or an encrypted directory in my home directory. Both of those options require that a password needs to be entered when booting up, rather than when the user is logging in. So, if there were other users of the machine, they would have to know the password. And, if I get distracted when booting, and miss the password prompt, I have to remember the command to load the encrypted data. Is there someway of prompting for the password when a user logs in? Or of allowing a user to mount/unmount an encrypted partition? What do others do to secure their data on a laptop? TIA

MySQL Support in Courier Authlib

OS: SuSE 10.0 Pro I am trying to locate the authmysql component in the Courier Authlib packages and do not find it. Have I missed it somewhere in the SuSE distribution? OTOH, I was pleased to see MySQL and PostgreSQL modules available for Postfix. (I had to roll my own from source in 9.x.) Thank you, Lucky Leavell
