OpenOffice 2.0 AND 2.1
Problem: When creating a table in Base using the wizard, an error occurs in step #4. "Column size is required in statement [CREATE TABLE "Address"....] Note that this particular error comes from selecting the Personal Address table in the Wizard. This was done on a SuSE Linux system. All attempts a custom tables and forms had the same results. IMPORTANT: OOo 2.0 final and OOo 2.0.1 require JRE 1.5.x for the Wizard to function properly. Any OOo version prior to OOo 2.0 final including all of the Betas require JRE 1.4.x. SUSE SHOULD have shipped JRE 1.5x with SUSE 10.0 and the OO pre2.0 release would have worked properly. Thanks for solving my identical problem.
FYI - I just checked my YaST2/Software Management and found
1.5.0_03-2. It was not loaded by default, 1.4.2.06-5 was.
I am using SuSE 10.0 DVD Retail Boxed Version. So, at least in
my case, SuSE provided what you say is required. The error
was not including it as a dependency for OOo.
tnx

Good.....glad it worked! The version that ships with 10.0 works, however, DON'T install OO from openoffice.org as it WON'T work. That is, the database is "busted." Fred -- Paid purchaser of ALL SuSE Linux releases since 6.x

If you check the projects directory on one of the mirrors, what I believe is 2.0.1 (i.e. 2.0.0.99-143) is now available, which is a better fit for your 10.0 than the openoffice.org version. Also, 2.0 was made a YOU update (i.e. 2.0 final). You should have updated if you are still running pre2.0.

Looks like I have some 1.4 and some 1.5 installed. Not getting any dependency errors either. Can these co-exists without problems? Thanks, Greg Wallace

Of that, I'm not certain. I uninstalled 1.4 then installed 1.5. Fred -- Paid purchaser of ALL SuSE Linux releases since 6.x

In general, JRE 1.4 and newer are designed to co-exist with each other. JRE 1.3 is NOT and should be uninstalled unless you really need it. The Java "executable" should have internal knowledge of which JREs it is compatible with. Most of my JRE experience is Windows with plug-ins so I can't say for sure about SUSE specific issues. And I know we just did a JRE 1.4 / JRE 1.5 co-existence test with some of our internal code. Greg -- Greg Freemyer The Norcross Group Forensics for the 21st Century

I've just hit the reverse problem - Eclipse will only run with 1.4 It is probably a case that SUSE are stuffed which ever they load by default - and so the older version is compatible with more legacy stuff? -- Lester Caine ----------------------------- L.S.Caine Electronic Services Treasurer - Firebird Foundation Inc.

Yes.....there is some of that. After further testing and reading what others have found out as well, apparently 1.4x & 1.5x can and WILL coexist nicely. Fred -- Paid purchaser of ALL SuSE Linux releases since 6.x
