Hey Group; I have been using SuSE for about 8 years and until now I have readily been able to get ide-scsi to work. What is the problem? I suspect it has been made a headache by the resmgn (resource package manager) and parts KDE. I have two proven to be good (and worked recently) IDE CD-RW/DVD drives on the Secondary cable. They do work as hdc and hdd. However, adding the hd#=ide-scsi to /grub/menu.lst doesn't help. I have all of the required modules needed loaded. I did cdrecord --scanbus with the normal erro about can't find /dev/pg* What am I forgetting or has become a problem for other people. strange usb mount in suse 9.2

Hello, I have a problem with mounting a usb-digital-camera "Panasonic DMC-LC5" as mass-storage-device. This worked for me in suse 9.1 (and earlier) without problems but now the new hotplug / automount - features seem to be a problem: If I mount /dev/sdaX manually the process freezens and I even can't "kill -9" it... :( I already spend several hours testing and I read in the 9.2-manual that I it will be mounted automatically - that seems to be true as it is noted in /var/log/messages: Jan 3 12:23:57 gsapc /etc/dev.d/block/50-hwscan.dev[4216]: new block device /bl ock/sda Jan 3 12:23:57 gsapc /etc/dev.d/block/51-subfs.dev[4227]: mount block device /b lock/sda But there doesn't appear any /media/usb-xxx or something and 'mount' doesn't show something, I even tried to search the whole / for the files on the camera but nothing... Also I tried to set HOTPLUG_DO_MOUNT:=no in /etc/hotplug/hotplug.subfs.functions but this didn't help either. I hope someone can help me. I have a SuSE 9.0 OOo 1.1 as well as a SuSE 9.2 1.1.3 install on separate machines. I would like to update the SuSE 9.0 machine to the 9.2 version of OOo, and am assuming that I could install the new version and then uninstall the old version via YAST? Before I go ahead and make the plunge though, I would like to make sure that the update will not break anything else ie Mozilla? I asked this exact same question on the OpenOffice users list and was referred here. How can we get the different version.h files under different source directories?

Dear All, I am building the new kernel images for the 2.6.6 and 2.6.8 kernel versions on Intel x86 machine which was already installed using 2.6.5-7.71 kernel version with SuSE 9.1 CDs. I downloaded the kernel tar files from the following link. http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.6/ I build the images on the same machine for the new 2.6.6 and 2.6.8 kernels. Now I am able to boot using the new kernel images. But there is a same version.h file under all the source directories. I have seen the version.h file under the following source directories. 1. /usr/src/linux-2.6.5-7.71/include/linux/ 2. /usr/src/linux-2.6.6/include/linux/ 3. /usr/src/linux-2.6.8/include/linux/ The contents of the version.h file are as follows. -------------------------------------------------- #define UTS_RELEASE "2.6.5-7.71-default" #define LINUX_VERSION_CODE 132613 #define KERNEL_VERSION(a,b,c) (((a) << 16) + ((b) << 8) + (c)) Due the same version.h file, when I try to load the module (which was compiled using the 2.6.8 kernel image on x86 machine which was installed using 2.6.5-7.71 kernel CDs) on another machine which was installed using 2.6.8 kernel CDs, I got the following error. > tifm: version magic '2.6.5-7.71-default 586 REGPARM gcc-3.3' should be '2.6.8 PENTIUM4 gcc-3.2' > insmod: error inserting 'tifm.ko': -1 Invalid module format I understood that the bug is: we can assume that the module was compiled for 2.6.5-7.71-default with gcc 3.3 version where as we are trying to load the module on a machine which is having 2.6.8 kernel with gcc 3.2 version. My doubt is: Why all the source directories does include the same version.h file? How can we get the different version.h files under different source directories? Suse 9.1 & KDE 3.2 I open start menu and then choose for example Games and then Puzzle. But after Games there is now arrow like after puzzle. There is just about 0.5 cm desktop background and then comes games submenu. After Puzzle the arrow is there (going to specific puzzle games)... I can't describe it better, hopefully smb understands and can help...

kscd autoplay

Hi guys, I made the mistake of saying "yes" when kscd popped up the first time I put in an audio CD and asked if I want it to autoplay every time. Now how do I reverse this? I disabled every autoplay related option on both kscd and KDE control panel's audio panels, to no effect. This causes me some headache when I want to rip and write audio CDs. Hello SuSE people. I am worried. Upgraded my kernel with YOU. Getting the following warnings. Converting SuSE to use MailDir instead of MBOX

Hello is there a howto out there or some sort of instructions or tips that you could provide that could explain how to convert the default settings of the suse 9.1 and 9.2 systems to use MailDir instead of MBOX. i need to setup my system for multiple domains and include anti-spam/virus features but they appearently require the usage of MailDir instead of MBox. Whilst I am almost 100% sure on the procedure to retrieve, virus and spam check email for a local store, I am not sure of most of the steps involved and what is required ie domain names et al. What I have done: I have run and edited the MTA settings under Yast->Network Services and have selected that mail be delivered to a Cyrus-IMAP store. what I need to know: How do I now configure the store itself ie its location and the incoming server name, requested by Mozilla Mail on setting up a new account on one of my client machines networked to the mailserver? I see the client has a mail store name of:/home/hylton/.mozilla/default/a8qsb5wf.slt/ImapMail/mail.foo.com. Shouldn't it state the servers IP and storage location? What would this be and how to configure it? I guess I just need to read the Cyrus-IMAP docs! Hello, I asked which java IDE is better on suse 9.1 and got several helpful suggestions - jedit, bluej,netbeans, jbuilder and eclipse. I tried all of them and prefer netbeans because of its small, fast and better java support. Eclipse is also nice with a better user interface, but it runs slow on my Duron 800 pc.
