Indeed it SHOULD show up under most used applications since it has been opened/used several times in the last few days. DUDE! You da man... I can't believe I didn't find this... I've spent who knows how much time poking around with options in the Control Center trying to find something. OK I'm looking at that now and see the second icon down with the CD and the eigth notes on it... shows kscd but yet it doesn't happen. Uhm... now what? Oh yeah, it is checked too... all of the icons are checked and have some tool assigned. Indeed everything is checked on here but the 2nd and 3rd boxes at the top. setting default Audio CD Player

hmmm... No response at all? Is this question just too stupid to answer? Guy's I'm really not being lazy. I have looked in the Control Center for 9.1 Pro and I cannot seem to find anyplace that lets me set a default player for audio CD's. Frankly it seems silly that it should be so obtuse. Nothing under Sound settings shows a player assignment, I don't see how I can do it by a file association... Can't anyone help? BTW I DID figure out what this means: open with kfmclient openURL file:/media/dvdrecroder ? and THAT's pretty cool. Found a video on there and some other stuff. Didn't even know there was anything on that disc but the songs... In a world without walls or fences, who needs Windows or Gates? Hi list In windows xp I use NetMonitor to monitor download speed and usage to ensure I do not exceed the BT imposed limit. Is there a similar graphical ap in Linux that runs under KDE? Thanks in anticipation Kelvin

Expanding ext2/ext3/reiser partition

FTP GUI Recommendations

Hi, Seeing the recent thread on KBear's unfortunate effect on the system tray, which I, too, witness, and having just been in the market for a suitable FTP GUI, I figured I'd ask here for recommendations. I found gFTP and it's acceptable, though a bit flaky (I found an RPM for version 2.0.16 though the gFTP Web site indicates version 2.0.18 is available in a release candidate form). When I searched for gFTP RPMs at <http://rpm.pbone.net/>, I was surprised to get hits not only for gFTP itself, but also for something called "ROX Filer." So I figured maybe this ROX thing incorporates gFTP. I installed it (ROX), but there's no sign of FTP support in its GUI or in its documentation. It's an odd, and possibly interesting, piece of software in its own right, but not immediately useful to me. So... What FTP GUIs do any of you recommend? Thanks. Randall Schulz

Kmail Configuration

I must be doing something dumb, but, I can't figure out what. I recently installed Linux 9.2. When I try to send email using kmail, I get a message that says that the system, can't connect to my mail server. It also says that the transport protocol used was 'jgraddy'. That happens to be my user name on the mail server. The transport protocol should be 'smtp'. I can receive email without a problem. My account is set up almost exactly as I have had it on Linux 9.0 for over a year. I have never had a problem there. The only difference (that I am aware of) in the setups is on the "Security" tab. Under 9.0 "Encryption" I had "None" and under "Authentication Method", I had "Plain". On 9.2, since there is no "None" under "Encryption, I have "SSL". I have "Plain" under "Authentication Method". I have the ports set to 25 for sending and 110 for receiving. Thanks, John

After far more Googling than I'd previously done, I found some help in Getting HylaFax configured. There is still one problem left ..and perhaps only one: the modem will not dial after having been auto-configured. I get the following hint in the logs: Jan 1 11:20:24 linux HylaFAX[5331]: Filesystem has SysV-style file creation semantics. Jan 1 11:20:24 linux FaxQueuer[4358]: SUBMIT JOB 1 Jan 1 11:20:24 linux FaxQueuer[4358]: Missing ':' separator in modem group specification I have no idea where that missing ':' might belong! I have checked out some files referring to various mfrs and found nothing obvious. Since those files are furnished in the pkg I would presume them to be correct. How to install Afterstep 2.0.1 in Suse 9.2 - a newbie q.

http://www.afterstep.org/ Hi, Is it possible to install Aftestep 2.0.1 in Suse 9.2, and do it without messing up the system? I've got KDE and Gnome and have had a peek at WindowMaker, but this Afterstep truly looks so cool in some screenshots, I'd like to try installing it plus some themes. -However, I haven't found an RPM for Suse and do not know how I am supposed to install the thing, as I am afraid that without Yast's help I am likely to end up with a pear-shaped Suse installation. In Suse 9.2 there was some additional tools package for Afterstep, which I did install ..in vain, I guess, as Afterstep itself was not included. I have downloaded a tar.bz-package from afterstep org. Should I do the installation from KDE or Gnome, or in a console compile something somehow, or wait/look for Suse RPM's somewhere or what..? Thanks for any input: as I have only installed stuff via YAST, everything else is pretty confusing.. Mike

Ugly Fonts, thin and grainy - why?

Hi all, I wonder why installed applications on my Suse 9.1Pro sometimes get thin and grainy, ugly fonts? The original included Mozilla 1.6 had nice font rendering. But when I installed the newer, general mozilla-i686-pc-linux-gnu-1.7.3-full-installer.tar.gz in /opt, both Mozilla 1.7.3 Navigator and Mail client got ugly, thin and grainy fonts. I read in Suse 9.1 admin manual that most applications use the newer Xft font system. Therefore I wonder if I need to do any special configuration or setup for each application e.g Mozilla before they can use Xft? And/or do each application's fonts directory need to be added in the Xft's config file /etc/fonts/fonts.conf, e.g /opt/mozilla/lib/res/fonts, and afterwards execute it with the command "SuSEconfig --module fonts"? Now I have installed Firefox 1.0 from rpm and web pages get nice fonts as they should. Are there corresponding font undertaking that needs to be done when building new rpms? Any suggestions? Terje J.
