Java Applets lets X Crash

Hi, Everytime when I visit a site that has java applets on it using any browser, X crash. When I start the oracle installer which is a java applet, X crash. I have though of uninstalling all java stuff, but dont have a clue how to do this. Grafix driver: "nv" and "nvidia" (tested both) Distro: Suse 9.2 Tried both KDE(3.3.2) and gnome(2.6) Anyone any ideas? I am having a prob getting a web cam with a chip marked as (divio nwboolQ 011z aa taa k1 6179.1) working. Has any one used one similar or know of a way to get it going on suse 9.2. Chris

[SLE] Help SuSE 9.2, Nvidia and TV out.

Hi all, I just installed SuSE 9.2 pro and I got two problems with the Nvidia-6629 driver. 1° - Since the agpgart module is loaded at boot, I use to compile my kernel without agp support and I set nvagp=1 in XF86Config. It works fine with SuSE 9.1 but with SuSE 9.2 I get a black screen while starting the X server. I need to have agp support if I want the X server to start. It's a problem since glxgears is 50% faster with the nvidia agp support. 2° - I'm unable to get twinview working with CRT and TV, each one can work alone but not together !! It works OK with SuSE 9.1 Can these problems be due to the use of Xorg instead of Xfree86 ? If yes, is it possible to install Xfree86 ( the 9.1 rpm) instead of Xorg ? Thanks for your help. Michel.

KDE Games under XFCE4

I would like to know where the executable files for the various Solitaire games that come with KDE are located When I call up kde from a terminal in XFCE4, I get the icons and task bar from KDE's desktop. I then call up the relevant solitaire game. However, when I close the terminal window, the background remains KDE's and not XFCE's, so I'd like a different way to call up the games. Where can I find the list of new features in 2.0? I'm especially interested to see if 2.0 will import .pdf files into the word processor or spreadsheet applications. Thanks dj tuchler

vsFTP / SUSE 9.2

Folks, I'm noticing that SUSE 9.2 configures vsFTP as an xinetd service, which is different from Red Hat and Debian. I thought stand-alone services were more the norm. Any particular reason why SUSE does vsFTP as a stand-alone service? In addition, the default configuration includes user = root (/etc/xinetd.d/vsftpd), which I thought was not allowed by vsFTP. /etc/passwd does include a ftp user with a default /srv/ftp home directory, which seems better. But when I try to change the user in /etc/xinetd.d/vsftpd to ftp, I get "OOPS" such as "cannot open config file". So I chown vsftpd.conf to ftp, and end up with a "must be started as root" OOPS... Are there any howtos for getting vsFTP running on SUSE securely? It sure seems trickier than Red Hat or Debian's binary. Thanks, Mike

If your using the same driver and XF86Config file that worked before, it should work now. I don't think there is a difference between XFree and Xorg where this is concerned..... Hi, try as I may, I have not been able to install thunderbird 1.0 onto my suse 9.2 box. it works fine as root, but when i go in as normal user it keeps on crashing... anyone experienced similar behaviour? ta ingo

konqueror goes nuts

Hi ya' all, my konqueror goes nuts, which means I can't grab one or more files to drag and drop anymore! I am experiencing that since a while already, but I could always get it working again. Not so now anymore! Does anybody have an idea what's happening? Would be great! Martin SuSE 9.2 (up to date)
