Anybody know what's happened to the apt repository, it appears to be a total mess lately. Currently I installed KOTD, but the kernel version as displayed isn't equal to the one installed (version of package 2.6.10, installed 2.6.11-rc2). And then, there's no kernel-source available for it either (AMD64) ... the link in the repository is a dead link?

usb key detection problems

Hi, I have suse 9.2 and I am having problems with usb flash keys. It is same with or without subfs. When I first plug it in (after a restart) it gets recognized (look ex. 1), but when umounted/ejected and then plugged again it gets stuck somewhere in the middle (look at ex. 2) with all the lights. It is not device specific as it happens with three keys all known to work with linux and even booted linux many times. LCD with SUSE Linux 9.2 Professional

Hi, I have been trying to bring up X11 on my Laptop (Compaq 1525US) with: Graphics card: ATI Radeon 7500 (LW) Flat Panel : 1400x1050 (Hannstar HSD150PK12-A from Yast) SaX2 cannot run, as it requires graphics (I just get a messed up screen). I have tried specifying -l, but that doesn't wrrk either. I have spent a lot of time trying different parameters in /etc/X11/XF86Config, but to no avail. Has anyone with this type of hardware got the graphics to work? Thanks, Ron

9.2 package install failed

I need help please. K8V se deluxe, amd64 3000+, 500mb dvdrw lite-on sohw-1213s 128mb geforce fx5200 New box came in October. As 9.2 did not arrive until early November I tried knopix and a single cd version of 9.0. Both worked. Every time I install 9.2 I get messages saying that various packages have failed to install. The number of failures during one install varies between 1 and 3. They are not always the same packages, audiofile - autofs - atk-32bit - bootsplash - bzip2-32bit and others. If I enter yast on completion of the install sometimes the failed package is shown as installed. If the problem is the dvd disc, why do the failed packages vary from installation to installation. If the problem is the Lite-on, why do the packages vary. I have installed the failed packages, using Yast, and the system has run for about 2 weeks but it then crashed on boot. Sometimes a reboot would work but mostly I had to re-install. You will have noticed from this email that I am not one of the brightest or most knowledgeable people around so I would certainly appreciate any help available. Malcolm.

Question Concerning 'shadow' Interfaces

I have a snort based intrusion detection system that sits inside my firewall but has a 2nd interface that is wired to the lan segment our border routers and firewalls are on. This interface has no IP address but operates in an 'up' status. (basically all it is doing is watching all traffic on the lan segment) What risks are there in doing this? Is there any possible way this setup can be compromised? The only protocol involved on this lan segment is IP, the medium is ethernet. Thx, cc

ATI and x86_64

Just a quick heads-up. ATI's proprietary XFree86 / X.org driver is now available for x86_64. It installs and works well for me (at last, acceleration!) on up-to-date SuSE 9.2 (Fujitsu Amilo A 1630, Athlon64 3400+, ATI Mobility Radeon 9700). http://www.ati.com/support/drivers/linux/radeon-linux64.html?type=64linux&p… -- Bill
