Reset LPT Port on Startup

I need to run a program which resets my LPT port on startup (LPT is connected to garden system and if any of the relays are open, then some stuff in the garden are turned on). I see that as soon as X is started, some relays are opened and I need to run a program to set them back off (closed). The software already works, the trick is to start it as soon as X start as well as when the PC reboots. Any hints? Nvidia cards, Doom 3, mboards, sad men

Tragically, I've decided I probably can't go to my grave without playing Doom3, addicted as I was to its predecessors for much of the nineties. Doom probably retarded my thesis by two years and in world terms probably slowed academic activity by something like 25 per cent, meaning we could probably be a happier, better race by now without it. But hey, it's a good game ... More tragically still, I expect that means I will need a PC with a 'doze partition in order to play, something I've not had for a year or two (tell me if you've heard different) and a fancy new graphics card, those recommended appear to be the NVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra, GeForce 6800 GT, GeForce 6800 GTO*, GeForce 6800, and GeForce 6800 LE. Anyone using these with success under 9.2? As I will be using SuSE exclusively for everything except Doom, I need to know they'll have a good 2d performance with plenty of good colours for graphics work and sharpness for text work. Any negative comments received gratefully too. SuSE's Nvida nforce2 lan support?

Hi All, Just curious about this and if there is a way to get it working. I'm putting together an Albatron Nvidia nforce2 chipset motherboard and can't seem to get the nic working. Nice fast setup though. Installed AthlonXP 3200+ Barton core cpu with WD Caviar 160GB SATA hard drive & 2 gigs of ram. Very surprising speed results from the SATA drive and nforce2 chipset! SuSE 9.2 sets up the chipset nicely, SATA works wonderfully, USB, etc. but the nic just doesn't seem to want to come alive. Things I've found in my research. Found a few emails in the archive about it, usually with the 2.4 kernel. Most suggest forgetting it and getting a good nic card to install. Some have tried the Nvidia drivers (stupid closed source stuff) and had no better luck. Other Google searches seem to produce reviews and other damning emails about closed source drivers and non-working nics. I couldn't find nvnet or whatever module is needed in the 2.6 kernel either, so wondering if anyone here can offer any insight into the problem or a remedy? Glibc errors with libzip.so

Getting some errors from oracle's loadjava utility. I have seen people with this error before with other applications but coulnd't turn anything up via searching. Loading Java classes into Oracle Server. This process can take several minutes. + /u01/app/oracle/product/9.2/bin/loadjava -force -user jchem/jchempw@chem2 ../lib/dom4j.jar /u01/app/oracle/product/9.2/JRE/lib/i686/native_threads/libzip.so: symbol errno, version GLIBC_2.0 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference (libzip.so) Unable to initialize threads: cannot find class java/lang/Thread Could not create Java VM Anyone know anything regarding this error. At first it looks like it wants a different glibc but the problem is actually something else and I can't remember now. Thx,cc

[Off Topic]: IP Listings based on Country?

I have talked with engineers in the past that like to block all IP addresses from countries such as China for example in an effort to quall spam and other malicious activities. Where can these listings be found? I would like to block entire networks at our border router for countries we don't do any business with or have a need for them contacting us. We have been seeing an increase of malicious activity lately and about 90% of it comes directly from China and the other 10% likely originates there as well. Most of it has been low-level script-kiddy stuff, probing for open relays, trying default user accounts, and other amateur stuff but can't be to cautious. thx, rhugga

SWIG-1.3.19 compilation on suse-9.0

Hello List, I was trying to configure SWIG-1.3.19 on suse9.0 (64 bit platform). when I did ./configure --prefix=xxxx ..... every thing was fine till the generation of Makefile, during the generation of make file installation result's in a segmentation fault within the linux kernel (kernel oops). The following is the error which Iam geting on this erver machine. config.status: creating swig.spec ./config.status: line 796: 1725 Killed mv $tmp/out $ac_file Message from syslogd@peemt7 at Wed Jan 26 03:15:13 2005 ... peemt7 kernel: Oops: 0000 [1] SMP uname --all gives the following on my machine Linux peemt7 2.6.5-7.97-smp #1 SMP Fri Jul 2 14:21:59 UTC 2004 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux I some how resolved this by replacing "mv $tmp/out $ac_file" by "cp $tmp/out $ac_file, rm -rf $tmp/out" now the Makefiles are generated under the SWIG-1.3.19 , now the problem is when I do a make on the Source directory make fails saying am--refresh rule is not defined. Actually this rule is not being generated in the Makefiles generated on other platforms like RH3.0 and 7.2 and IPF. I see a different rule all-am in these Makefiles with a definition. Why is that this rule is only being generated on suse9.0 platform?? I have the following versions automake 1.8.3 autoconf 2.59 swig-source 1.3.19 gmake 3.80 Please help me in resolving this build issue on suse Looking forward to hear from you. Snort on Pro 9.1 or 9.2

Is anyone using Snort as an NIDS. If so, which rpm did you use from the website. Are there any guides for use with Suse because I havn'n been able to find any.

According to a web search, it is not a true Live card (no emu101k). VMware WS eaudio on SuSE 9.2?

Just curious - is the audio in vmware workstation working under SuSE 9.2 for anyone? I've futzed with it for hours, tried VMware tech support, yada yada. No audio. Mozilla.Desktop permission on KDE 3.3 SuSE 9.2

I have a strange problem I just found out .. when trying to change the Mozilla.Desktop icon while in KDE. I had a popup message saying that I did not have permission to do so. I found out that the Mozilla.Destop file belongs to root. Even when I change the link permission as root it always go back to root ... Can come body explaim to me way ?
