I'm debating going back to Mandrake or Redhat, even though I just fought for SuSE to become one of the company standards. What I can do so far is this: samba3+winbind trusting other NT domains using ACL's/EA on filesystem. What I need is to use LDAP for the backend, for winbind sharing of uid/gid from the trusted windows domain users. The two problems that appear to be screwing things up are the schema files SLES9 uses... include /etc/openldap/schema/core.schema include /etc/openldap/schema/cosine.schema include /etc/openldap/schema/inetorgperson.schema include /etc/openldap/schema/rfc2307bis.schema include /etc/openldap/schema/yast.schema include /etc/openldap/schema/samba3.schema The rfc2307bis.schema seems to break things apart. You can't include the NIS schema with it and the smbldap tools don't work with it or any form of "default" Suse settings in regards to ldap+samba. The second issue is the smbldap stuff. Without it, I can't get Administrator to do what I'd like it to do from a windows 2000 machine using the usrmgr.exe . Another possible issue is what Yast wants to do to the ldap directory in regards to the user/group default configuration settings. I've decided to rest a week after beating myself up with this for 2 weeks. Samba + LDAP on SLES 9?

Has anyone successfully setup Samba with LDAP on SLES 9? The OS install appears to do it, but there are no entries in LDAP for Samba objects. I tried a couple HOWTO documents to do it manually, but they're all geared toward RedHat and/or earlier versions of LDAP/Samba. Thanks, Dean

Frustated installing Linux in laptop

I've been frustrated installing Linux (Mandrake 9.2 and Suse 9.1) in my Toshiba Tecra 8000 laptop. In suse installation the PCMCIA NIC D-LINK DFE-690TXD pc card always failed. I tried the suggestions on many web site regarding the configuration for this laptop but their all failed. I always get SIOCSIFFLAGS: device or resource busy. I think this device collide with some device but i don't know what or how to see this. The /var/log/messages didn't mention anything In mandrake first everything went well, but only the soundcard (opl2sa3) is not working. Than I installed the latest stable ALSA driver. After the installation things went well. But when I tried to reboot the system everything collapsed. The same PCMCIA (D-LINK DFE-690TXD) somehow collide and make the system hang. If the device plugin when the laptop startup it make the kernel panic. I tried to block all the initialization on the /etc/modules.conf regarding the alsa, but nothing works. Its been a frustrating effort for me and without any information on the Internet about this problems. I hope someone in this millist can help me out about this problems. Active Directory authentication?

I am setting up SLES9 for the first time. We use Active Directory (sorry, can't change that right now) for authenticating all our Windows workstations and servers. I know I can configure Samba to use Active Directory for authentication, but I would like to configure SLES to use it for local user accounts as well. I have tried several things in LDAP Client Configuration in YaST2, but I can't get it to work, nor is the documentation very helpful. Does anyone have this procedure written up? Surely I am not the first one to ask. I've been Googling all morning, but haven't been able to come up with much that doesn't relate to smb.conf. Any help would be appreciated! -- Cameron

Updating antivir via cron results in failure

Hello, everyone. I know this question concerns SLOX4.1, but nobody on that list could help, and it is a fairly general question. On my SLOX4.1 box, I am using antivir to scan for virii. I haven't had much luck finding the auto-update program, but manually running antivir --update works fine, so I decided to just set this up to run as a cron job. As such, I added a small script to cron.daily that does nothing more than invoke the above command. Every morning, after an update, I get two emails. One of these is from antivir letting me know that the update worked fine. Is it a known bug that tasks do not appear on the tasks page? I see them beside the calendar, but nothing shows up on the actual tasks page. I tried clearing the search bar; that's not it. I tried searching for something about this at bugzilla.ximian.com, but I can't really work that there bugzilla thing. This is happening on both machines I installed ULB Gnome on. Does anyone else see this? Is this a known problem with Evo 2.0? I doubt it, but it would almost make me feel better. Regards, dk

laptop touchpad prob

I know it's discussed before, and I solved my touchpad tapping problem by installing synaptics driver & editing XF86Config. But this isn't the best solution for me. Now i have two mouse device definitions in XF86Config. Mouse[1] supports a real mouse, and also touchpad; but no tapping. Mouse[2] (synaptics) allows using touchpad correctly, but then i can't use the mouse. I can switch between them by editing XF86Config each time i need. - Is there a configuration which supports both touchpad & mouse? - If no, is there a better way to switch between these mouse definitions? (without needing to restart x server) Thanks in advance..
