Hi folks, I have been trying to get midgard running over the last few days, and I think I have it up and running, mostly anyway. There are a few niggles that I hope someone here knows how to fix. The two niggles are: 1) when connecting to http://host.domain:8102/asgard/ I get the following error Fatal error: Cannot redeclare processsubmit() in code-global(6) : eval()'d code on line 483 2) when connecting to http://host.domain:8101/admin/host/ and clicking on "New Host" at the bottom right, it just reloads the page, and will not allow me to add a new host. HP? Dell?

Both Dell and Hewlett Packard have low-end desktops with the same video chip. but otherwise different from one another. I am familiar with Dell's low-end cpus. KDE or X crashes

Hi: I have Suse 8.1 I have experienced periodic crashes at the KDE login when the wrong password is entered at the screensaver password entry dialog. Actually it isn't a crash. Not sure really. What happens is that the screen goes black and then X restarts, and the KDE user login appears. This wipes out all running applications, and is unacceptible for a system that is supposed to be stable. If I hadn't learned to save my work every minute I'd have lost a lot of work due to this and other KDE/X crashes. As a desktop OS, I have failures that result in the wiping out of all my applications quite a bit more often on Suse 8.1 Linux than I do on Windows 2000, though I do use Windows only about 10% of the amount I use Linux. But it stands at about 20 X/KDE failures caused by user actions in about 4 years, compared to 1 NT crash in the same time, and that occurred overnight when it was idling, so it may have been caused by a brownout. What might I do to to find whether this is a bug or not that I might be able to do something about? Recover/convert unuseable mpeg file

Hello, I have got an 18 MB mpeg file (captured on Windows from a camcorder). the command mpg123 test.mpg gives: Playing MPEG stream from test.mpg... Searching for next FF header Can't find frame start. and exits plaympeg says: error MPEG-1 Streams with D-frames are not supported mplayer plays the file an says: MPEG-PS file format detected Mainactor included in SUSE 8.2 says "file not valid" and exits How can I convert/process that file so it is loadable by MainActor? Hello, I want to try MainActor video editor as packaged in SUSE 8.2 on a computer without firewire port. Is there short video (10/15 seconds) online in a mainator supported format which I can download to test the program? Being for a review, it should be something without copyright problems. ORiNOCO Silver and SuSE 8.2

Hi Everybody! I'm trying to get my laptop running SuSE 8.2 to connect with my wireless access-point. I've been tinkering with the wireless settings and I'm not getting it. When I run KWiFiManager, It shows the name of my local access-point and indicates excellent signal strength, but I don't have any connectivity. I'm using the ORiNOCO Silver card from Lucent Technologies which cardctl identifies as "WaveLAN/IEEE Version 01.01." upon a request I updated my glibc 2.2.5-177 to 2.3.2-1 on suse 8.1 using an rpm I found on rpmseek.com Now I have a bunch of broken dependencies! how can I reinstall the original glibc? I have tried rpm -Uvh --oldpackage with no success! is there a way to do it from source with make? Regards, paul

8.2 and "Walmart special."

A friend of mine bought 8.2 Pro. and had a Walmart box he bought 6 months ago or so......Celeron in it. The VIA video card, like most VIA makes was no good, so he dropped an ATI in it, and also turned the VIA NIC off and dropped an Intel in it. 8.2 went on like a glove after that......a $200 box that runs like a top. Hey Group: What in the world is going on with 8.2. It seems that a lot of thing are failing. The most recent is "chroot". Yes! it is requested to change "/" (root) to /media/hdb1 which is a mounted reiser file system. chroot /media/hdb1 cd /media/hdb1 shows all files and directoies. ERROR /bin/bash: error while loading shared libraries: libncurses.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory /tmp # ldd /lib/libncurses.so.5.3 libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0x40075000) /lib/ld-linux.so.2 => /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x80000000) This same process worked great in 8.0. SuSE 8.1 - YaST2 online update problem

Hello Every time I try to run YaST2 online update module (whether from a command line or in a graphics mode) it initially says: Trying to initialize FTP/HTTP connection.... and then immediately Can not connect to www.suse.de. Check your connection I have a working connection to the internet and I can ping www.suse.de without any problems. YaST2 online update used to work while the system was being updated from another location (in Germany) and then all of a sudden it ceased to work when we brought the laptop to Poland Can anybody enlighten me on what the problem can be ? My system is SuSE Linux 8.1 Professional running on a TOSHIBA laptop. I`ve heard rumours that YaST2 online uptade utility that comes with a stock SuSE 8.1 can only operate in an active ftp mode, but this should not be an issue in this particular situation as I disabled my whole firewall to allow active FTP to check if YaST2 online update must be run in an active FTP mode, but unfortunately it still did not work. Strange YaST2 Problem

Wonder if anyone has seen this.. I just downloaded the KDE 3.1.2 packages and upgraded the desktop. No problems there. Now however when I go into YaST2 and attempt to select any packages or groups for update , I receive this idiotic window that pops up and says "Abandon all Changes?" The "accept" or "cancel" buttons are non-responsive causing the whole Install and Remove Software Module to freeze (under YaST). What have I done wrong here in my recent update. For the KDE RPM update, I created a dir under tmp and dropped everything in there. Then Created a new directory entry under YaST2-Change source of Installation. Disabled the cd:/// record temporarily but have since restored this enrty as the sole source. After completing the KDE upgrade I had gone in and deleted the RPM's under my tmp dir (140 MB) in the efforts to conserve space. Could this have thrown a wrench into YaST somehow? Really looking for the expert advise here as I an not sure how I'll upgrade from this point on unless I can get rid of this nag window. Thanks! K. Nesbott

XFS problems - Need Help

I am new to this sys admin stuff so I would appreciate some info from those in the know. I am trying to do a repair on "/" which is the mount point for an XFS partition /dev/hda4. I have tried doing an "init S" to startup in single user but I am still unable to umount /. I have also tried mounting / as ro. Still can't do an xfs_repair. How can I perform an xfs_repair on /dev/hda4 (i.e. /)? What is the proper procedure for doing this? evolution ando mutt

not sure if this is an issue if i view mail locally with evolution and delete the mail or view it, then if i connect remotely and chkeck mail with mutt mail that was removed with evolution shows up in mutt as new.. any idea if this has a work around?

What is "susee" file on 8.2 livecd?

Hi all! I downloaded the SuSE 8.2 livecd recently and was taking a look at its contents. One file (boot/susee) has a size of 636Mb, but when I run 'file' against it, it just stays it is "data". How can one mount this file and look at what is in it? I've tried "mount -o loop /path/to/susee /mnt/loop" as well as "insmod cloop file=/file/to/susee" to see if it were perhaps using cloop, but neither seems to work. Does anyone know how to check out this file??? Thank you!!! windows xp overwrites the linux boot manager

so, i just reinstalled windows xp (suse 8.1 was already installed) and as we know I can't start my Linux now. I have a bootable floppy disk at my hand and the green menu appears on my screen: I should choose between: 1.Installation 2.Installation (safe mode) 3.[rescue installation] 4.[OS already installed] (I don't remember very weel) Option #4 asks me for another disk (I don't know what). I just want my boot manager back. Some idea? Thanks for any help adagilson

Problem with fonts and Konsole

All - Since upgrading to KDE 3.1.2, I have started seeing error messages from Konsole whenever I start a new session: "Font `-misc-console-medium-r-normal--16-160-72-72-c-80-iso10646-1` not found Check README.linux.console for help" I am running SuSE 8.2 Pro, Xfree86-4.3.0 (SuSE upgrade), Qt 3.2.0b1 (from suse/people) and KDE 3.1.2 (from suse/supplementary). I did notice that my /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc directory was empty, so I copied the fonts from an 8.1 install I had on another machine, no joy. A google search for the error turned up two similar complaints on the KDE mailing lists, but no answers. Anyone got any suggestions? -- Powered by SuSE Linux 8.2/Kmail 1.5.2

OpenLDAP2 problem on SuSE 8.2

Has anyone here encounted any problems with OpenLDAP2 on SuSE 8.2? I have configured it and have it running just fine w/o SSL support. I can query my directory locally with no problems at all. However, any client that tries to access it generates the following in /var/log/messages: conn=2 fd=7 ACCEPT from IP=192.168.1.23:33241 (IP=:: 389) conn=0 op=0 BIND dn="" method=128 conn=0 op=0 RESULT tag=97 err=2 text=requested protocol version not allowed conn=0 op=1 UNBIND conn=0 fd=7 closed If this is too vague, I'll gladly post my slapd.conf to help further. On a separate, but possibly related note, is there a Good Reason why SuSE seems to be becoming "SSL Linux"? I'm all for extra security/encryption when needed/desired, but I've already had to go back to a 8.1 binary of imapd because the 8.2 version seemed to be ssl-only (thanks to this list for that little tip!) and the SuSE-shipped version of SquirrelMail doesn't support SSL. :( Anyways, sorry for the mini-rant, and thanks in advance for any help on my LDAP problem. Mails in triplicate

Hi, I don't know if this has been asked before on the list, but I use Suse 8.2 and Evolution 1.2.3 for my email.Since about wednesday of this week I have received three copies of each mail sent to me from the Suse mailing list. I also subscribe to the Radhat and Mandrake lists also, which although I started receiving duplicate emails from Mandrake list that seems to have returned to normal. Hi In short, I am trying to configure XWindows from SuSE 8.1 PRO on a Netfinity 5000 server. The video chip is a S3 Inc. Trio 64V2/DX with 1 MB What is the option I need to select on SAX2? (it seems i cant find the right one) When I try the configuration, I always get: "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/xtest does not exist" "/dev/apm_bios device does not exist" Any ideas? mldonkey process refuses to die

I have been experimenting with mldonkey. After exiting the program, I noticed my system was slow, with unusual disk activity and a lot of processor usage. Ksysguard shows a persistent mldonkey process that consumes 22 % of system resources. I can't seem to kill it,. I've tried killall mldonkey, kill 1505, kill -9 1505, as user and as root, but the process is still there. Any suggestions, apart from rebooting?
