Problem with fonts and Konsole
All - Since upgrading to KDE 3.1.2, I have started seeing error messages from Konsole whenever I start a new session: "Font `-misc-console-medium-r-normal--16-160-72-72-c-80-iso10646-1` not found Check README.linux.console for help" I am running SuSE 8.2 Pro, Xfree86-4.3.0 (SuSE upgrade), Qt 3.2.0b1 (from suse/people) and KDE 3.1.2 (from suse/supplementary). I did notice that my /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc directory was empty, so I copied the fonts from an 8.1 install I had on another machine, no joy. A google search for the error turned up two similar complaints on the KDE mailing lists, but no answers. Anyone got any suggestions? -- Powered by SuSE Linux 8.2/Kmail 1.5.2

It appears some fonts went away! I solved mine by doing Settings>Font>Custom and selecting Lucidatypewriter or any font you like that is there and the error message went away. Besides I like the Lucida type for the Console anyway. Good luck, Richard

Actually, I did set the fonts as you describe, and Konsole is using the font I selected, but it still gives the error message at startup, and any new Konsole instance I start from the K menu or the icon on Kicker also get the error(and don't start with my selected Font/Schema). Mark, I may have been in su mode when I made the font selection. I do su quite often and may have gone into it before making the changes. All I know is that I have rebooted - cause of a lightining strike- and have not had that error message anytime since the change. One other suggestion, have you tried to change to a different font? IIRC, I had to use the Custom selection to make the change stick. hth, Richard

I had previously saved the session with the alternate font I wanted (Fixed[misc] 12) and "linux colors" (white on black) which were being

The font does appear to be on the system (after recopying the entire /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc directory from my 8.1 system) and "xlsfonts" and "xfontsel" both show the font (misc-console-medium-r-normal-16-160-72-72-c-160-iso16046-1) as being installed and available. These fonts are installed by package XFree86. Therefore I suggest to re-install this package in yast2.
