Sorry, I don't have an answer to that. I have MySQL on two servers, AMD and PIII, and it works OK on those. Hi, I eventually settled on Mindterm which is Java based, it runs "out of the box" on SuSE 8.1. It has the easiest setup (extract the zip file) and the best / easiest to use GUI. SuSE Firewall2

Hi all, I just installed SuSE firewall2 on 7.3 and already setup the config file according to our need. I allow access from internal to outside on ftp, ssh, www, smtp and pop. From the outside only ssh and web are accessible. I check with nmap and everything is OK. I also set the internal net to ping the outside, but I thing something wrong because it cannot work. I put : FW_ALLOW_PING_FW="yes" FW_ALLOW_PING_EXT="yes" and also add on firewall2-custom.config iptables -A input -i eth1 -s 192.168.117.0/24 -d 0/0 -j ACCEPT -p icmp --icmp-type echo-request Is this wrong? I also got an email from someone that when he's trying to send me an email, the message is connection timeout to my email server, which is reside on separate machine (with public IP and always connect to internet with leased channel) and also running firewall2 on 7.3 with main function is to protect smtp and pop3. This is not happen before I installed firewall2. Is there a "delay effect" after firewall2 installation? TIA M. Edwin

Well, this is bizarre, but as it turns out, ALL the permissions in /etc had somehow been changed to 777 !!?? I changed them to 644 and now I can log in as root again. Of course, 644 isn't right either. But I have another SuSE box in the lab from which I can list the correct permissions in /etc. Now all I have to do is go in and change everything........sigh. WLAN/dhcp question - not updating resolv.conf, routing

Hi all, I just completed installing SuSE 8.1 on my laptop which has a 3Com xjack WLAN card installed. I downloaded the podlu driver and installed it and I am now getting an ip address via dhcp on the card - eth1 (eth0 is a built in 10/100 adapter). However, the resolv.conf file is not being updated nor am I getting a default gateway. If I manually add my nameserver entries to /etc/resolv.conf dns queries work correctly. However, if I add a gateway with "route add -net 0.0.0.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 gw 192.168.2.2" - which should be correct - I still cannot get off my local net onto the Internet. Anyone have any ideas why dhcp wouldn't be updating the network settings correctly?
