SuSEconfig and /etc/init.d

Hi, I've looked through all the sysconfig options in Yast2, but I cannot find what causes SuSEconfig to reset my custom scripts in /etc/init.d Any time the system runs SuSEconfig, my links in /etc/init.d/rc5.d (and rc3.d) get reset to S01. For example, S12postgresql is changed to S01postgresql. This is inconvenient as the network doesn't start until S05network. Is there a way I can tell SuSEconfig to stop this? APT vs YOU -- redoux :o)

Dear List, The confusion that surrounds the topic of "How Best to make my SuSE X.X use KDE 3.1 stable is making my brain hurt. I thought YOU was for general updates to SuSE 8.x and that it would become the SuSE preferred tool for all distribution s/w maintance and upgrading. I have followed the APT vs YOU threads on this list with some interest, but I felt secure in the knowledge that YOU was the SuSE answer to more sophisticated sys maintance. Now observing the activety on this list I have seen several ways of taking a SuSE sys to KDE 3.1 stable; I have also seen a number of people report that 'meathod X causes Y problem" and a slightly smaller number of replies that say "Do what I did to fix that". I felt secure in the knowledge that those of us who had the patience to wait would find a YOU, SuSE 'blessed', KDE 3.1 stable entry; and that the Official SuSE YOU pkg would have minimized the errors and pitfalls of the update process. Now we have been told that the only way to get a 'blessed' KDE 3.1 is to wait for the next release of SuSE, rel 8.2 . SuSE is saying that YOU is only for patchlevel updates (bug fixes only, no new feature or internal reorganisations.. So in light of this news I think it is time to look at APT again. My impression of APT is that it is a tool of greater depth and ability. What is the SuSE stand on APT? Do the APT repositories contaim official packages,(blessed by SuSE)? How does APT achieve the level of package integration that we expected from YOU? Does SuSE offer a SuSE APT? When SuSE issues bugfixes or security fixes via YOU will YOU 'know' about APT installed or updated apps? Will YAST2 'install or remove' app know about and handle APT installed stuff? Suse 8.1: java and mozilla

We had many many problems to have the jvm running in mozilla (Suse 8.1, mozilla from CDs - 1.0.1). Anyone with a working config could tell us how to do? I could not activate it with a symlink from /opt/mozilla/plugins/ to the file libjavaplugin_oji.so under the java tree; neither copying the file. Suggestions? floppy disk adapter for smartmedia? anybody?

Having a digital camera my downloading of photo's still has to go over dos because my pcmcia card reader still has problems recognizing the smartcard in the pcmcia adapter. I also have a floppy disk adapter which until now is not in use because it only works under windows and some mac programs. I searched around but was not able to find any linux driver for this adapter. Has somebody among us this disk adapter working? -- NTReader v0.36w(P)/Beta (Registered) in conjunction with Net-Tamer.

xFree86 Config Probs

Hi, I've a set of problems, which i guess are related. I use Suse 8.1 with XFree86 4.2.0, on an IBM Netvista machine. It has Intel 82810a graphic controller chipset on it. The problems are explained below. I also included parts from Sax.log & XFree86.0.log at the bottom. TIA, 1. When i try to make a Sax config. Sax sees my monitor & video card undefined. When i click Finalize at Sax, it says : (EE) Problem parsing the config file (EE) Error from xf86HandleConfigFile() I get this error everytime, even if i do no modification. 2. When i start KWinTV, these errors occur : WARNING: Your X-Server has no DGA support. WARNING: couldn't find framebuffer base address, try manual configuration ("v4l-conf -a <addr>") I can scan & find channels, i can hear sounds correctly, but can only see a black screen on each. 3. With xavtv, it's the same. Sounds ok, but screens not. Xawtv gives these errors : This is xawtv-3.76, running on Linux/i686 (2.4.19-4GB) WARNING: Your X-Server has no DGA support. > mount point /windows does not exist because you do not have a *directory* /windows in your linux system. Above /windows/C. Linux is *very* particular and instructions that you are given will *not* succeed unless they are followed specifically, provided that they were correct <grin>. Your posts will be much easier to read if you change your *indent* character from ">" to "><space>" thats ">" + a space. < Thanks Franklin, dano, Patrick et al: Got it mounted: just needed to have a directory in the tree named windows and that fixed it. Mounts fine now. I did have touble getting to an editor than Im comfortable with in root, however. Tried to use kate as root but the suse way: sh kate (as root) or ./kate didnt work. Had to use file manage-superuser mode and it didnt let me edit the /etc/fstab file. How do you open kate as root if not by the 2 commands above which I found in the manual! BTW, do the <space> make the post easier to read?

Installing 8.1 via NFS

Hi, I'm trying to install SuSE-8.1 via NFS on a DELL Inspiron 8200. The problem I'm seeing is: although the NFS-shared directory seems to be found (mounted correctly), the booter (on the machine being installed) is claiming that it "cannot find the image" and is suggesting to "verify the directory specification". I can attest that the directory I'm specifying does correspond to where the source tree lives on the remote host (NFS server). Any clue is welcome. -- Gaby

Teleconferencing options in Linux?

Hello SuSE folkz, Could somebody point me in the right direction please. I'm looking for a possibility to simultaneously communicate over Internet with my business partners using microphgones, speakers and optionally web cams. Part of our partners are still running Winblows, the other part runs Linux. What is the best method, software to communicate seamlessly between us? MS mailexchange replacement

I am fighting to replace in one company I am working for the M$ mail server to a Linux box, but so far I could not find anything that really can do all these things that the Exchange server can do (mail, calendar, .....) Matt, I have the gcc rpm installed: # rpm -qa | grep gcc gcc-2.95.3-216 but I still don't have g++. Is something wrong with my setup? I just tried to link gcc to g++ in hopes that would do the trick, but (not surprisingly) now I get tons of error messages.
